Gestures are only useful when you call someone in to help you. It's customary to bow when they arrive, and wave when they leave. You also bow to people that invade you when you're about to fight. Or you can use them to fuck around with the doll.

You can't disable the motion control, sadly - but it only kicks off if you hold 'X' for a bit.

In the community a bow before a fight in an invasion normally means an honour duel (ie no health items).

Invasion is quite hard to do anyway. For most of the goats, you can only be invaded if you've summoned a helper.

As such, I've never been invaded.

I was invaded a fair few times but I was actively going out of my way to call them into my world in my 2nd play through.

It's a shame there's no equivalent of the dried finger in Bloodborne.

I've done loads of invasions too and they've been wicked fun (not recently mind) although I much prefer Dark Souls 3 for invasions/friendly coop though - PvP combat is much more satisfying than in Bloodborne. They really got their shit together for that.

I'd highly recommend newbies get involved with the invasion/coop aspects of the game. They add new elements to the game that you'll miss with a dry solo play through.

I got invaded without wait that was Dark Souls 3.

If I finish this I'll go back to Dark Souls which I have on Steam.

Just got Father Gascoigne down to a tiny sliver of health twice in a row. Sigh.

If that happens, remember that your gun does a small amount of physical damage, which might be enough to finish a baddy off without getting near them.

I pretty much use all my bullets parrying his human form. For some reason it doesn't always work.

Molotovs are also handy in health whittling situations. I believe they're fairly cheap.

And remember you can sacrifice a little life (Up on dpad) to get 5 bullets. is sensible to go in with 25 and try and find a blood vial on the way to boss to get you up to max.

I'm wondering if throwing knives are good too. Beasts are susceptible to serration apparently.

You can get an extra 5 on top of your 20, but it costs health. Do it while you're fighting someone crap so you can get the health back from them.

Notice how at the beginning of my video above I start off with reduced health and 20 + 5 bullets. That's available at any time.

I didn't realise you could go above 20. I knew about the bullet thing.

You should ignore all the music box, bullet tricks, item usage and rubbish until you can just smack the shit out of him. So do that, smack a cramp in that ass.

I'm actually finding him reasonably easy now until he turns to beast form. Then I'm just falling short because I can't seem to get any hits off on him without him destroying me.

I reckon your best bet is the tomb near the stairs then. Have him chase you round that in wolf form. When he goes mental just run/dodge around the tomb in a circle. When he starts working make him feel the wrath of your charged R2. Simples.

Did it. Parry and viscerals. Then when he transformed a music box/charged attack and finished him off with molotovs.

I wouldn't say so. It opens up a bit more now, you get the ability to use weapon gems* (and runes aren't exactly out of reach). And the remainly bastardly bosses now tend to have npc summons i believe.

Oh, and you can return to the hguy next to the central yharnham lamp and he'll give you a fun flamethrower. can be a useful tool in some places.

The bosses get harder, but so so you.

Soulsborne games are only really hard at the start.

He is naturally better at the combat in this game than I am so I'd expect so. He's come close to killing him and he's definitely a lower level than I am.

I dunno, I was making a good effort of it--especially at a lower level and with all starter gear--however I just spent a while levelling up plus getting the better weapon and a whole new suit only to fail to even get him into beast form. I did only try once after all that so it's not necessarily indicative, but I was sort of hoping all the new gear and whatnot would make the difference and it totally didn't. Anyway, I'll get a better run at him tomorrow.

Trying to think of the other necessary bosses

Gascoigne really is a brutal boss to be facing so early, when you're still getting used to the combat though. His first form has all the tricks you do, his second form is fast and agressive.

Up until last night I was cutting around with just the default weapon and clothes as I hadn't bothered dicking around too much. Now I've got the suit you find lying around in the sewers somewhere and I've got the upgraded weapon that's available. For all the difference all that's (not) making!
