The body work is already quite tatty, just jigsaw a hole in the bonnet and drop a Max Rockatansky style supercharger on it.

[edit] actually, having just written that, have you thought about a classic Aussie muscle car instead — they drive on the same side of the road as us, don't they?

No bloody cupholders either! They didn't tick every option...
I might give the sat nav a go though, it is supposed to be comically bad.

I suspect that there was never an option for cupholders — martini glasses still fall over in them.
Yes, I'd be avoiding the sat nav like the plague at 16mpg ;)

There was a cupholder option, it's a flap in the centre armrest. I'm keeping an eye on ebay for one :D

Very much so, but they're rocking horse shit in this country.

That's insane. Surely you could start a business sourcing them from Oz, tarting them up and still make a mahoosive profit on them. Granted, I know there are insane import levies going into Oz, but do they work the same coming back, or is it simply that it costs £40k to ship them? I'm pretty certain they're dirt cheap out there as I have several friends who live there and are muscle car enthusiasts and they've said they're cheap.

£90k would buy you a top of the line Mustang brand new, or a Viper, or a couple of the new Camaros which are going to retail over here for about £35k new. Maybe you should do one of those on finance?

[edit] How much are those rebadged Vauxhalls costing second hand nowadays, are they called Holden's. Yup, just checked, they start at about £5k and £10k will get you a good one. I'll paint the flames down the side for you ;)

Emissions rules in Oz killed the muscle car, so they're rare and expensive.

New muscle cars just aren't purdy.

Like Grim... says, they're not supposed to be purdy. I prefer the look of the new Camaro to the Mustang if I'm going to split hairs, though.

I specced out the most expensive one with all the options I could (including things like a cover and tool kit) and it came to $70,443 which is £44,997.16.

Here it is: http://ford.to/11M8ngU

Yeah. Then import and UK-legalise it. That's an extra £20K.

Really? Unless things have changed since I looked into importing a Mitsubishi from Japan (which was a number of years ago, in fairness) RORO is about £1,000 across the water and if it's 6 months old when you bring it into the country there's no VAT to pay. Then you need a V555 to register it for ~£150, and that's it, isn't it?

Not counting insurance, etc, which you need for any car?

[edit]Oh, they've added an SVA test. That was £150 for the Tomcat (although it didn't get one in the end), plus the cost of any changes.

Before a car can be imported a "model report" has to be done, which costs thousands to get done as a one-time charge (ie first one to be imported needs a model report). Plus import duty. Plus VAT. Plus SVA.

Fortunately Mr Clarkson has taken care of that for the Mustang ;)

Not if you've owned the car for six months (which, considering that you'll be paying 10% duty and then 20% VAT on top of that is well worth considering).

Plus SVA

Quite. And any costs incurred as a result of changes.

are you thinking of this thing?
http://showautoreviews.com/2012-boss-302-mustang-up-to-700-hp/

there was an even more mental one that was all white with splitters and diffusers all over it, low as hell, closer to a thousand horsepower too I think.

Having just had a look on google, there are loads of tricked out Mustangs around, all the way up to a Shelby one with 1200bhp. Through a live rear axle as well...

So...

I have a 'friend' who filled up their car with oil, and #forgot' to put the oil cap on, then drove it a few miles before realising.
luckily the cap was still there (wedged between some pipes in the engine), however there was a certain amount of oil splatter all over the engine.

:belm:

How would I best advise my 'friend' as to how to clean the engine so it doesn't explode into flames from super hot oil on the motorway?

Your 'friend' probably shouldn't worry, and should not make things worse by pressure washing the engine. But :belm: all the same.

It'll be fine.

Get 'him' to check the new oil level, though.

If it does happen to burst into flame, he's got a fire extinguisher in the car anyway, right? Right?

Yeah, it'll be fine, just look a bit messy. The worst thing that will happen is that any excess oil on the manifold will smoke a bit for a while.

Heh. I've seen the news stories on the various car sites announcing this car and it is gorgeous. I get something like this far more than I do bragging rights exercises that Ferrari and Lamborghini do — lovely as their cars are it does feel to me as if they're entering the realms of performance that is simply never usable in the real world, and I'd rather have a car which is more usable more of the time. Still, it's a pipe dream — if money truly were no object I know I'd end up with a garage three times the size of the house it was attached to and would probably have an F12 and Aventador as well as one of these in it ;)

Literally like something I'd build in Forza. A whole load of Audi S3 parts shoved into a mk2 Golf.

Is that the VIN plate, or just a decorative thing? VIN plate would normally be on the firewall at the back or on one of the door pillars, wouldn't it?

It can go anywhere, really. Land Rover's have them next to the bonnet catch.

indeed, the mg has it on the front panel but the golf doesn't, its on the slam panel below the windscreen. thats more likely to be a paint code marker or summit. still, not very neat is it?

Glad ford couldn't find a taker for the twingo, I've flopped to needing something with a better seating position for me and the more I think about it, the more I think that while the fiesta is better, its not better enough.

So yeah, 535d is back to top position.

I was quite surprised by the lack of legroom when I had a go in a big BM. I can't remember the type, though.

The Mundano is the only car I've owned so far where I have to put the chair forward one click.

With my stupid body, legroom is never the problem - short legs, short arms, massive spine.

The e36 m3 evo cabrio has only been beaten by the focus so far - both with seats that can go really low. The m3 could even slide for rear access being a 2 door. Fuck knows why its so hard in sub-compacts. Even in the 5 door focus, it has to be slammed and still rocked back To stop my head rubbing the head liner. Yet the body is way taller than the m3 cabrio. Shame it ate all the money really.

A bangle 5 series should do, if the seat goes low enough. If it doesn't, it's gone.
