Isn't he legally bound to pick someone up once he's stopped regardless of destination within a certain distance, or is that a myth?

Appear? It is the part of the rules. Did you know that all IOC officials have to be put up in five star hotels, for free? With free room service for meals, access to bars etc etc?

It's this that irks me the most. The use of the transport lanes, the advertising (most of the stuff contained in the Olympic games Act 2006. it seems to me to be heavy handed and surrendering the City to an unelected board of people that then go on relegate those that live in the city to second class citizens.

Yeah, 7 miles I think it is. I mean, he'll take the job if they still want to go, but he'll basically be saying "I'll be a 3 hour journey by cab. You're much better off getting a bus".

Can buses use the special lanes, then?

With tens of thousands of Olympic athletes, officials and media and millions of visitors and spectators here, this means that roads in central London, around venues and on and around the Olympic and Paralympic Route Networks (the ‘ORN’ and ‘PRN’) will be much busier than usual from mid‑July.
...
Temporary traffic changes will be in place along the ORN and PRN. Games Lanes will be in operation on parts of the ORN and PRN at certain times; these are for the use of Games vehicles only. If you drive in the Games Lanes, park, load or stop on the ORN or PRN, your vehicle may be removed and you risk a fine of £130.
Crikey, they've even taken the roads.

I'm confident there are enough people fucked off by this to park or stop in the Games Lanes deliberately and just take the fine, to screw the IOC.

As we know from living in Cardiff, big events are inconvenient if you want/need to go through the city centre, but there's a hell of a difference between closing Westgate Street and Wood Street for a few hours versus giving yourself your own fucking lanes for a month. Nobody drives in Central London for fun, not even Grim....

A few weeks ago, one of the top beer writers Roger Protz covered the fact that Heineken have sole beer rights at Olympic venues, however they only went in as a third tier sponsor limiting them to having only one named product,in this case their namesake lager Heineken. In addition to this they can provide 2 other alcoholic products under generic names, so Strongbow will be supplied as ‘Cider’ and John Smiths Smoothflow will become ‘British Bitter’. Where an Olympic venue already has a preferred beer supplier such as Lords (hosting the archery) who serve Marston’s beer the pumps will need to be removed for the duration of the event and replaced by temporary Heineken provided equipment.

It is worse if you live in Cardiff where the women’s football is taking place. An exclusion zone around the stadium over which Heineken has marketing exclusivity takes in most of the city centre, and pubs in the area are not allowed to promote their own beers with banners or pavements signs. Brain’s, the countries best known brewer, who sponsor the Welsh Football and Rugby team based at the Millenium Stadium have to forfeit their pump positions and I’m sure are not best pleased about the fact.

Fascinating reading, this.

Fucking hell, I wasn't being serious when I suggested Brains would need to remove their name from the smokestack and brewery building. What about all their pubs in the city centre which display their name because they fucking own them? What about *sharp intake of breath* The City Arms, with is huge and varied selection of wonderful beers, sitting right next to the Stadium?

I would imagine some of the pubs might adopt a "Yeah, that's not happening" approach. I can't imagine that the courts would side with the Olympics on this.

And because they’re already on a roll here, I guess, they go on and forbid: large quantities of coins (this is vague, tsk tsk), refrigerators (I mean…?), and flags of any countries not participating in the Olympic games (meow!).

Are the IOC aware of the Welsh Flag?

I see the flame went to the summit of Snowdon yesterday. You know, for the cafe workers and train driver to see it.

I'd refuse to carry the flame if it was over 30˚c.

If so, after MUCH argument, I believe they didn't have to change the name. It was all over the news for ages, which I think helped.

Do Greece have to change the name of [a certain town] because it is ... actually, Greece have probably already taken the money to do that.

Also, Welsh flags and Cornish flags will be allowed in as neither of them are countries.

I wonder how much it costs to be a tier three sponsor. We should have grouped together and become a sponsor, and demanded that "belm" be the official cry of regret of London 2012.

Legal chaps here reckon there's no chance they'd get a successful prosecution on any pubs etc who still advertised and sold non-approved beers, etc.

So Cardiff can probably breathe a sigh of relief.

Maybe we could talk Bulmers into a slight rebrand for the event?

There could be a losers podium where they get showered with watery cider.

As far as I am able to tell, it looks like private sponsorship amounts to around £800MM. Public funding is currently pencilled in at around £9300MM. Fuck LOCOG.

This'll be the final nail in Little Chef's coffin. What are they going to call their Olympic Breakfast?

Based on how I felt the last time I had one, I suggest the Coloured Ring Breakfast.

Roman numeral.

1000x1000.

I'm guessing, never really seen it used like that before.

The plural of million is million when you talk about money!
