When we produce Tech documents, each area, has to do an impact, ie assess what work needs to be done, in time and cost.

This takes a while if you do a complex solution. Turns out one area did not do this correctly, and it puts one of my solutions at risk to be delivered on time.

Surely you'd call it an 'impact assessment' though, rather than an 'impact'?

Because if not you'll unfortunately all have to be killed.

yes it is an IA. We just shorten it to Impact, as I do a lot of RFC that require IA, before the PMC send it on..... lol

Hay I don't make the rules..

IA is easier to type I grant you, but verbally Impact is easier.. marginally.

*checks thread is still holding*

Right, so one interview didn't happen. The other, they want to take me on but wait at home a month twiddling my thumbs while they sort the rest of the project out.

Meanwhile, in family news, the inquest into my brothers suicide happened earlier in the week, and apparently the coroner had to step in to stop everybody screaming at each other. I suspect the verdict was recorded as something legalese akin to "Suicide: And I can bloody well see why."

And I can't leave the building until sometime this afternoon, as HM Queen is visiting.

And I'm getting frustrated with WSS, with deadlines looming. Should get off Beex, really, I suppose.

I've painted my hall ceiling in the past couple of nights but I've just noticed a stain coming through the white paint.

I think I've got a leaking pipe above.

1: It might be a clement month at home thumb twiddling...

2: Sounds like you're best off out of it. Don't recall clearly the whole thing with your family but iirc from what you've said there's sometimes no bargepole long enough. Inquests being out of the way is typically a good thing, I've found.

3: Should have popped down and said hello, apparently she's alright. Still, "Can't" leave the building - so you are in custody, then? Or what?

4: No idea what WSS is.

Sorry, I just don't feel as if I post in this tread enough when it isn't about me. I'm making an effort.

I hope things start looking up soon Plissken.

My girlfriend seems to be going through a whole string of nays currently. She lost possibly the best job she ever had around this time last year (before I met her) - she was an implant from her employer permanently based in the offices of one of their customers, when suddenly that customer turned round and said they didn't need her anymore (there was a bit more to it than that, but that's overall what happened). Her employers couldn't find anything else for her near enough to where she lived or which paid enough to make up for travelling expenses (in fact, they couldn't even match her existing salary), so they made her redundant. It was a terrible shame as she was, by all accounts, excellent at the job and very well liked.

She's had a couple of shitty, underpaid jobs since then, so finally decided a couple of weeks ago to get in touch with the old place to see if things had changed. They seemed incredibly happy to hear from her and seemed to fall over themselves to find her a job - then last week she was interviewed by the manager for the Heathrow branch of the company and offered a decent job, with decent pay and decent prospects, there on the spot. He told her to expect her offer letter in the post within the next day or so and resign from her current place as soon as she received it, as he wanted her to start ASAP. Things were very much looking up.

Then yesterday she called this manager guy up, as nearly a week had gone by and no offer letter had appeared. He told her he hadn't sent it, because he's changed his mind. She lives too far away, apparently (about 30 miles). If she moves closer, she can have the job, but as it is, it's a no. She's simply not in the position to move anywhere right now, so that's the end of that.

To say she's gutted would be an understatement. I don't think I've ever seen her as upset as she was last night. Since losing that job in the first place, her career seems to have hit a wall and neither of us can see what she can do to get things moving again... this had seemed like the perfect answer.

The only contracts that need to be in writing are a conveyance of land for fee simple, maritime insurance, and a couple of others. There could be a claim hanging around here, but mileage might vary.

EDIT: IIRC, it could be entirely possible to claim that there's been a wrongful dismissal, but I would suspect it wouldn't be worth pursuing, as the losses are fairly small.

That's what I've tried saying to her - that maybe this is a blessing in disguise if that's the sort of person she'd be working for.

Gotta be said, she's upset and I'm just fucking angry about the whole thing. I mean, the interview she had with him last week went on for hours, they were talking about the various things she'd be doing there, upcoming changes to the place, where her career could move over the next few years - he offered her the job, confirmed salary and bonus details and then he pulls the rug out from under her, and only after she chased him, the fucker didn't call her to tell her. Apparently he'd been speaking to a few people who pointed out that if there was an accident one day on the M25, she'd struggle to get in. And that's apparently reason enough not to give her the job.

I drive from Jn 20 - Jn 29 of the M25 every day to do my job - when I raised the possibilty of accidents and traffic delays to my employers at the interview stage (if you remember, I was head-hunted and the commute was the one thing putting me off at the time), they just said "yeah, we anticpate that'll happen sometimes, just do your best to get here on time every day". For the amount of times it'll happen (ie, hardly ever), it should never be an issue.

A verbal contract is as good as a written one according to the course I was on last month.

Yeah, over the course of the last week she could theoretically have turned down other potential jobs on the back of that verbal promise :(

My Nay? Yahoo! have put our hosting server on their mail blacklist, because one of our clients contracted a virus that chucked a load of spam out as part of a botnet or something. We've sorted the issue, but Yahoo! (unlike every other company that has a blacklist, it seems) don't have quick removal features available, I've been waiting almost 5 days for them to get this sorted and it's not looking likely at any point soon.

One of our clients is (understandably) spitting feathers, as they deal with a lot of people using Yahoo and BT addresses :(

Badenoch and Clark again.

I've started my main job now and that's going well, but I still want to work at the homeless children's hostel. I got a mail from the lass at B&C the other week saying they didn't have a current registration form for me (I registered with them in late 2010) and that I had to send one back because they were being audited and it was 'important'. After the debacle with my pay I don't see why I should be in any rush at all to sort her admin issues out. I then got a voicemail from her a couple of days later asking if I' was going to be working regularly at the hostel, this despite me already telling B&C that I'd be working there sporadically. I fired an email back explaining that I often get asked to work on a couple of hours' notice and that might be the only work in a given month, and got one back again asking me to sort out her auditing problem by filing out a form I'm not going to benefit from spending the time to fill out (and pay to post back, I might add)... and that the onus is on me to confirm any future shifts I'm offered with the agency beforehand. Bollocks to that, the employer can do it.

Anyway, a week ago yesterday I get the call on Friday lunchtime asking if I can cover the evening shift. After a long day in the office I get the bus to the hostel and supervise the M-Cat riots for four hours before going home. I place a time sheet on the manager's desk and depart, expecting to be paid yesterday for my four hours.

Guess what?

...and that four hour's pay would have doubled my money to see me through to the end of the month.

Someone I know has just found an I juried young hawk. Phoned the RSPB and they said they are only interested if it has show leathers on it.

London, and RSPCA said to leave it outside to fend for itself, again, because it doesn't have show leathers.

Thanks for that number, Dimrill. She rang then and they rang around and found someone from a nearby swan sanctuary to pick the hawk up and bring it in to them.
