Yay! A new Jonathan Meades show! And it's on France!

If you've never seen any of his stylish, erudite, and charming documentaries, you've missed out.

21:00, Wednesday, BBC 4.

Wahay...Meades action, thanks for the heads up.

I wonder if he'll put the boot in as he did in Jerrybuilt?

A couple of Christmases ago I got my parents the Jonathan Meades boxset. They'd never seen his stuff before, and absolutely loved it. Especially the one about Belgium.

The Belgium one is classic, especially the shared French and Dutch joke about how a Belgian ties his shoelaces. I also love the Severn Heaven one, about the custom built little prefabs - though I am terrified by the almost David Lynch disquieting woman who goes on and on about the horrible tragedies she's witnessed - immolations in garden sheds, a woman smashed off the embankment at the top of her garden by a train, etc. The 'In Search of Bohemia' one is ace too. In fact, they're all great - except the one about vertigo, that's merely okay.

I am tremendously excited about new Meades. Thanks for the heads up Kern. He's my favest TV makey-shows guy.

From Wikipedia:

Quote:
A 9-DVD box set collecting his various Abroad... series was due for release in April 2008 but was then reduced to a 3-Disc "Best of..." due to licensing problems/expense of the music used in the programmes.

That would have been a fantastic boxset. :(

I only know him from the cookery program. Last week he was talking about using things in the kitchen that looked past their best. Made some great looking Crispy herb mushrooms.

MrsZ can't stand him.

Really enjoyed his look at utopians in Essex tonight. Worth watching, as ever.

Hmmm...I wonder if there are any 'online retailers' that might have this available, or would it be a touch, too esoteric for most places?

forums.mvgroup.org

They specialise in documentaries and non-fiction stuff. They've always got plenty of BBC things as well so not just US sourced.

I don't know if registration is open at the moment or not but the trackers are public so if you get one of their torrents anyone can download it; so if there's something in particular you're looking for and you can't get into their site let me know and I can check for it.

Ta for the heads up Kern, still love Meades. Bit concerned there seems to be nobody out there to replace him. I will be definitely be looking this one up on iPlayer.

Hurrah! Thanks Kern!

I'm going to get a nice beer or two in from the Bottle Shop and curl up with this.

This one slipped me by:

Jonathan Meades on Franco, completing his classic dictator series.

Will have to watch it tonight!
