Ach, I shouldn't have pulled the trigger on that post, it was totally needless. Apologies to everyone, most especially Dimrill, and I'll bugger off out of this thread and leave you guys in peace. Apologies again.

Ummm, we understood the first time... Not really a fair analogy, as has been pointed out already.

I think it's more than a fair analogy. By smashing through the game as quickly as you can you're missing hours and hours of content in the game. Combat's not a part of this game? My fat fucking arse. It's nearly everything in the game. Yes, the world is pretty and exploring is fun, but so was Doom and you had to kill things to get where you wanted to go. Same here. I've just tried clearing a ruin on easy in Skyrim, and yes I could just stand there while 4 bandits whacked at me for 5 minutes with my health only dipping below 3/4 of the bar. It's as simple as godmode.

In fact, cut out the combat and it's a simple matter of travelling to villages and levelling up your Speech skill to buy pansies from the alchemist at a better price.

Sounds rubbish then, as Bethesda games have never been very satisfying, combat-wise. It's the worlds they create that I'm interested in. I'll just get Dark Souls instead.

Anyway, I just think your attitude towards Bamba was uncalled for, and while I don't condone what he said in response, I can understand the frustration that led to it.

What, using a simple simile to underscore my point? I didn't start the shit flinging here.

No, since that. Bamba's response was nothing but polite and courteous, to which you responded sarcastically.

I do think that there is a major difficulty spike at the end of most dungeons. I was in one last night, merrily dispatching dwarven spheres and falmer without too much difficulty, then as the final boss fight there was a big fuck-off Dwarven Centurion Master that was a real challenge to kill. Almost too much of a challenge, compared to the rest of the dungeon. I guess it doesn't help that both me and my companion are the proverbial glass cannons - high damage output, little resistance.

I reached the end of a dungeon the night before last to down the third of the Gauldur mob. Narrowly took the guy down -- after using a lot of potions and careful planning -- only to be murdered by one of his leftover summoned Dueager with an arrow to the back when I paused to catch my breath. I used rude words. 'Twas a fun fight though.

No. No. He said he thought the simile I used didn't apply or have anything to do with the conversation at hand. To avoid responding sarcastically like the petty breakdown of the simile that I was forced into above, I responded that I was tearing my hair out. Which was direct, not indirect.

Hey Bamba, if I've caused you any offence, sorry. Not intended in the slightest. I do think that playing on easy is rubbish though.

110 hours on, even with main storyline done I still have a handful of sidequests (not even the Misc fetch and carry ones) left. Mjoll the Lioness is following me round kitted out in scary ebony armour. The only problem I have with her is when I get caught pickpocketing and the person starts a fight on me she smashes their head in in about 5 seconds so there's no time to apologise or pay off my fine. She murdered half of the Riften marketplace before, the only one who escaped was flagged as an essential NPC.

Also after the main storyline ended:
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
I went back to Esbern in Sky Haven Temple and found out they wanted me to kill Parthunaax. But I don't want to, but they won't talk to me any more until I do. I might go and see if he offers me the standard YOU COULD JUST LIE TO THEM option or something. I mean, who hasn't helped a massively old and powerful dragon enslave humanity at some point in their past? Forgive and forget, I say. Also interested to that they still think he might defect to Alduin considering I deaded him.

I often choose to play on easy because I know if I play something on hard I won't have the time to finish it.

Right, now that's sorted (tosser :P), Centurion dynos make excellent decorations to leave in your houses for your wives/husbands to knock over. I've got 5 of them sitting in those nice Dwemer bowls you can pick up in the same ruins.

I took him out in four or five shots, escaping into the darkness after each one. My sneaking is so good he couldn't even see me when he was staring me right in the face in my dark little corner. Easy, but it totally played to my character type; I can imagine him being a right bitch as almost all other classes.

I. HATE. STEAM.

So, Steam decided there was an update for Skyrim, So what does it do? Closes the game. With no warning. I lost 10 minutes of play >:(

Also: Skyrim doesn't like me being a Werewolf. It crashes my game.

10 minutes?

I exploded someone in EvE once, podded them and it cost them a month to get back to where they were.

It was hilarious.

For the sake of fuck! I picked this up today and rushed home to play it and my 360's DVD drive (which has been pretty iffy recently) chooses today to pack in and won't fucking install the thing. So that's my lunchtime tomorrow; taking my Xbox in to the console place in town and hoping they've got spare drives in stock so they can swap it out for me fairly quickly. Gah!

Let me know how much such a thing is likely to cost. Getting mine to eject a disc is becoming more troublesome by the day.

Will do, expect a report around lunch time tomorrow. I had assumed you just swap one drive out for another but a bit of Googling shows that you need to swap it for the same model drive as you've already got in your Xbox otherwise it won't work so I suspect the price may come down to how common your current drive model is and it's availability. I can see this being such a sketch that I just end up buying a new Xbox but I'm still hoping it won't come to that...

so, I just started playing this, and the bloody HP/manna HUD is so far down the bottom of the screen that it's off the viewable area. I hate the world. And my telly.

Luddite. Get a VGA cable for the xbox and plug it into your PC monitor.

Or, y'know, a new telly.

I can genuinely imagine you in a rocking chair, wearing your cardigan, tugging on a pipe, sucking a Werther's Original, muttering "I remember when everything was made of wood, you know! Bloody technology. Invented by those Forrins to undermine the Empire. I saw Arthur Askey at the Bristol Pavilion in 1938. Bloody nice man. He didn't have a widescreen TV."

It's one of the older white models, a "Pro" according to Wikipedia's model history, so it's certainly ancient by Xbox standards. If the drive is too expensive to replace, or if sourcing a replacement would take too long, I would consider picking up a second hand console if it's cheap enough. I dunno, a brand shiny new one would be nice and I'll do that if it ends up being the best option but even with the price having fallen over the last couple of years I'm still looking at close to £200 if buying from a bricks and mortar store which is actually more than I'd expected having not paid too much attention to the prices recently.

I'm expecting a 2012 release for the new Xbox, so I'm trying to hold off replacing mine for the second time.

I dunno, given the hardware issues with the earlier 360s I'm not sure I'll want to be an early adopter of the next console. And God knows I've got enough of a backlog of games to get through from the current generation. I'll probably spend the first six months of the life of the Xbox 3 cheerfully working through the last this generation has to offer and then upgrade to the new one once any hardware issues have come to light and hopefully been sorted.

Mmm. Generally speaking you don't want to get a console too close to release, not because of reliability, but more because of a limited games library (which, on the 360 at least, was just ports of what the previous generation was doing anyway)

I suppose it depends which Xbox you have. It may be a good opportunity to swap for a slim model.

See the 'broken tech' thread where I fixed mine, might be the same problem.

Apparently this 1.2 update has added a load of the bugs I was experiencing last night so despite only wanting to play this I'm going to have to knock it on the head until they give me a working game for fourty quid.

Annoyed.

Bloody hell, the fight to...
