Woah, back off, rookie. Zio, I'd PM Joans on this one if you actually want it fixed.

It's ok Zio, I think Gaywood has this one covered.

Good stuff Zee. Also, when the time comes for you to shop for your 1.8 VVTi Celica, hit me up. You'll want to know what to look out for.

Why, thank you chaps! I'm sure I can live with the radio, I might look into it if I'm bored one weekend or something. Gaz, I had already fully intended to speak to you before looking at any Celicas!

Chuck us a picture of the dashboard in his current Celica so I can see the radio and I can possibly tell you what's up with it.

If it's an aftermarket radio, I'd put money on it just being that it's been hard-wired in rather than having an OEM->ISO loom adapter used. Good news is that swapping the radio in a '98 Celica isn't complicated at all if the current one is buggered - although if it has been hardwired it'll be more difficult than if it's not. Hell, I've got a JVC CD head unit with Bluetooth and an iPod connection at the back (that I routed into the glovebox in my Celica, so the iPod was plugged in there) that you can have for nowt. I've no use for it any more and it's just sitting in my storage unit gathering dust.

My g.f. at last got her student support money. After waiting since September, and dozens of forms asking for incredibly obscure personal information stretching back to 2003 from immediate family members. So, yeah! Can now replace her coffee-ruined MacBook, and give her mum something for her dad's hospital fees.

Oh, and her sister qualified as a nurse at last. (Now comes the €400/month pay!)

I will have a proper look at it in the week, I'm sure it's something really simple.

Another yay then - the girl I mentioned chatting to online. We're meant to be meeting on Tuesday anyhow, but she texted me earlier to ask what I was up to this evening. I mentioned I was having a quiet night in, so she asked if I'd fancy going for a drink with her. And so we did. And she is totally awesome, awesome in a "this is far too good to be true" kind of way. And she's still up for going out on Tuesday regardless, so evidently she enjoyed the evening at least a fraction as much as I did.

Wow! :luv: :metul:

It's a good feeling, isn't it? Thanks to the sale of my car, I no longer have an overdraft. I actually can't remember the last time my bank account was in black, at least 4 years I'd say.

Does this fit in the Yay thread? I have no idea :D

So, Mrs T hates her job right? I've mentioned this before. She went for a job which was great, but meant her moving away.
She got the job, but turned it down as she realised it wasn't what she really wanted.
She had an idea for her own business, which was a great idea and we started to set it up, but she realised it wasn't exactly what she wanted to do, again...
We have talked a lot about what she really wants to do, and she has always wanted to run a cupcake shop. We ran the figures at the weekend, came up with a basic business plan and it looks like it would work and be a viable business. So it looks like it is actually going to happen! :D

Plus sides are obviously Mrs T doing what she loves, being her own boss and possibly making more money than she would in any job she could get at the moment.
Down sides are for it to be a viable business to start with (cost of premises, rates, people to help, knowledge of the area, location of shop with good footfall etc...) then it has to be done up north to start with. (A good location with reasonable footfall in South Shields = £15k a year. A good location with reasonable footfall in Milton Keynes = £250k a year!)

She'll give it a go for a year, see if it works, with the plan to open another one down south once she has a proven model to go to a bank with and has less worries about financial exposure.
Lots of work to do, and many trips up and down the M1 for me for the foreseeable future, but i'm very excited and happy for her :)

Good stuff! :)

Would it be worth her doing the odd market stall etc. first to gauge interest and build up "brand" recognition, though? Rather than splash out on a proper shop.

She will be doing exactly that to start with, but the only way to make money in this game is to have a shop, do volume and have customers come to you. So a shop as soon as possible is the best way. Sure that is risky, but it's not like a cake and coffee shop is totally out of the blue and an unknown entity :D Plus doing it up north brings into play a lot of government grants, free advice and accounting etc... The joys of the government and their designation of "deprived" areas :)

Oh and there are restraints on private kitchens, leasehold insurances, hygiene standards etc... which mean getting into a shop asap is actually the simplest thing if you want to do this as an actual business! :D

Actually, thinking again...I made 48 on Saturday for a Christening and it took me 4hrs. I don't fancy having to make hundreds.

Although, if it was my job, I'd have a massive floor mounted stand mixer, and cheap numpties to make the cakes. I'd just decorate them.

The shop will have a multi-tray industrial oven etc... :)
Need to investigate decorating options, as a hand piping bag probably won't cut it! :D

It is. I so want to work there. Even if the current uncertainties of the future of my current employer weren't an issue, I'd have applied for this job.

If the one up north is a success, Trooper, then I'm sure my wife would happily open up a London branch for you, as she is a whizzo baker of cakes and whatnot!

I'm sure Ali would love to do the same.

We also have a mutual friend who is itching to open a cupcake shop. However, Do not go into business with that woman.

Going into business for yourself is one of the best things you can ever do. Very scary at first, but the sense of freedom is worth it.

Massive yay!

My sister just had a baby! I'm an uncle again.

Baby weighed a ridonkulous 10lbs 6oz. Yowch.

Note to those of you who know her - I'm not sure if this is public knowledge yet to those outside family, so don't go congratulating or anything. I was just excited and needed to post something.
