And who's watching the highlights?

I've set alarms for the start of the game, the start of the 2nd session and the start of the 3rd session (I think - 00:00, 02:40, 05:00? - are they right?)

I fully expect to be kept up all night by my daughter any way (she has a bad cold), much like last night, so may as well watch this, and snooze in the breaks...

Daughter is coughing and crying already. Doesn't she know it hasn't started yet?

Parents are going over to Australia and following the 3rd/4th/5th test round this year. They went over 2(?) ashes ago for the whole thing and dad sat next to David Gower on the plane at some point, mum said neither of them shut up for about 9 hours and formed somewhat of a bromance. By hour 3 she was fantasizing about how many ways to kill two middle aged men with plastic cutlery.

So,

I managed to watch the morning session, slept through most of the afternoon session, and woke up in time to see Siddle's Hat-Trick. Then left when Bell and Anderson were batting.

The Wicket is supposed to be faster tomorow, that should suit the English bowlers shouldn't it?

The top order sort of looks in decent touch. Petersen managed to get a decent number. If not for the hat trick, we'd be looking ok. Here's for a carve through the Aussies 'tomorrow'

I stayed up until 1am, but then had to get some sleep.

Not a good day.

Hopefully Swanny and the lads will have more success tomorrow.

I didn't finish watching Ashes to Ashes. Life on Mars was good though. Will we get an Antipodean Gene Hunt?

Great comeback, and nice to see Jimmy in the wickets after the torrid time he had at the Gabba last time.

Need to bowl them out for under 300 tomorrow and then bat bat bat!

I slept through most of the of the first session, watching the last 20 minutes or so, then watched most of the 2nd session, England were mostly excellent, if only Swann was a foot further forward fo Hussey's first delivery! Could've been a bit different then.

England need to play more like they did between lunch and tea, and they should be able to get those peskie Aussies out for a reasonable amount (less than 50 lead would be good)

After that impressive start I thought it may all be going wrong but it's looking good again and Swann seems to have found some form which bodes well.

Great work, chaps. Since Villa's fortunes are inexplicably tied to the England cricket team in an inverse fashion, I knew we'd do well today as Villa lost in the cup to our local rivals.

I also very nearly stayed up to watch the first few overs. Wish I had now (though the sleep was much needed).

Bunch of people in a living room not really commentating. Too many "ums", "ers", and (I'm surprised at my self for saying this) "fuckings" for my liking.

The highlights were fun, though.

3 wickets in 4 balls! and Jimmy's still on a hatrick (unless Swann gets the last two this over!)

I got up at 5am and looked blearily at the BBC sports page before rubbing my eyes and blinking at the joyful events. Then I checked out the Australian website which made me even happier. Always great to read when they have lost and some good highlights as well.

Great day, though could potentially have been better were it not for the good runs added by the Aussie tail. Would hope for a substantial first innings lead!

At 69/5 we really should've had them all out for 150, but never mind. As long as we can bat as well as we have done so far this series, we should be ok. The pitch isn't as green as it was, so fingers crossed!

I'm not a massive cricket fan, so the idea of staying up late, or getting up early to watch this doesn't really appeal, but I've been up since about 6 this morning and only just realised this is still on. I bet they're about to finish playing aren't they?
