It would be lovely to drop off a fleet of bangers and roll away with a new motor.

Yeah, for 3 years.

8 weeks delivery :0(

Added in the in-car TomTom and bluetooth upgrade, so it's a factory line job.

Yeah. I like a bit more bling than the RenaultSport offers. Also hot hatches + 6 points + recent at fault claim = £££££ for insurance.

I use the car quite a bit. A streetcar would cost me more than hiring.

I saw a Nissan GT-R in person for the first time today, driving through Shrewsbury. They look quite mean and imposing up close, I want one.

I've been seeing quite a few. I wonder how many of the owners are weeping into their ill-advised, pre-ordered pre-recession £54k twin-turbocharged debt.

Stunning car though, I'm probably just bitter.

Talking of Streetcar, did you see the Zipcar iPhone app? Using the phone you can reserve your nearest car, be shown a GPS map with directions to go find it, remote-activate the horn so you can find it in car parks, and remote unlock it from the phone once you are stood by it.

They're probably not. At least not until they launch it hard a few times and it shits out it's transmission at a repair cost of £20k ;)

It was on the ramps at the same workshop I had to put my Tomcat on, so I had a go in it last night. Christ, I've forgotten what a badly-made, rattley, squeeky pile of toss it really is. You can't see jack when reversing (not handy for backing off the ramps), the immobiliser seems to immobilise at random, and the fans are stuck on and make a "ARRRGH" noise.
Then you put your foot down in third and it obliterates the rear tires in a banshee-howl of smoke, and you forgive it everything.

Small Tomcat update coming soon!

Note the TVR in question back on the ramps in the background of the final photo.

When you've got a sec, can you pop up and re-attach the passenger brake duct on my BMW? It having fallen off onto the engine tray some time last week explains the weird "wind howling in a chimney" noise and why it feels like the discs are warped.

Especially exciting is that as a result, the ambient temperature sensor is now hanging in the wheelarch. I look forward to explaining to my insurance company how all the car's electrics came to be wrapped around the axle.

We did quite a bit more that that - namely figuring out where the seats will go. Drinks holders are going in nearer the end - we're going to use the ones you get on bikes as they'll be best at holding onto stuff.

I'm going to ring my dad as he's got tools, a drive and some ramps, no fear regarding taking tools to things and lives round the corner from work. It's a known design flaw - brittle plastic ducting connected using weak clips to the front bumper/spoiler and the flexible wheelarch. That and the temp sensor just sticks out into the duct, with no mesh or anything, so gets smashed within minutes.

The biggest problem is that the area's enclosed by the wheelarch liner, bumper, engine tray, engine, and I live on a terraced street. And don't have ramps or a sturdy jack. Or confidence.

It isn't anything to do with Bradford - I just checked on the Carcraft website and the prices there are so inflated (and that's before you get into finance deals, that's just their "exclusive web only price") that it's amazing they get any customers at all.

It's possible to negotiate a good sticker price there, I did when I stitched them up that time.

A was mentioned in that thread, though, they target idiots and people with poor credit ratings, screwing them further into the ground with debts they can't manage. Their adverts are like double glazing ones, which speaks a great deal straight away.

I was in town the other day and wandered past one of these places:

Some similarly cracking deals to be had there.

I MOT'd my gas Corsa yesterday (the one I got for free 2 years ago). It hadn't been MOT'd since then and has two full pages of failing items, including a "In my opinion, this vehicle is not safe to be driven" one.

However I fully expect to have it fixed up and back on the road by next week..

Indeed!

32" Bravia for £767.23, 29.9% APR over 156 weeks: £1104.48 total. Add in the optional service charges, which people no doubt plump for, and the total is £1698.84.

A former boss of mine apparently works for these jokers. "Typical APR: 49.9%". Lovely!

I wonder: is that a punitive interest rate, or does selling to scumbags just leave you with such an enormous default rate that it's actually a fair charge?

It's sort of pink, but yes. A track rod end was apparently about to fall off. And both the front springs broken.

I'm blaming somebody for curbing it.

Probably a bit of both, there's usually a reason why they've been refused credit elsewhere.

Spend £3k on a second hand car, or buy something for less than £1k and run it for a year until I'm employed again?

Obviously the latter, if money is tight.

Yeah. I just want to fix the 205, but that's off the cards....

I've got to change the discs and pads, bolt the exhaust back on, and replace a CV boot cover. About a days work, but I currently have neither time, nor money to do it.

If that's all it needs I'd say buying another car is a false economy.

Fuck. No doubt over several years, too. Why do people buy into these deals?
