So. I used to really enjoy painting and drawing. However, I haven't done any for... oooh. Donkey's years, except making birthday and valentine's cards and such. I've recently decided to get back into it all, as I used to love charcoals, pencil drawings, painting with acrylics, watercolours, Chinese ink drawings and so on. My older sister is incredibly artistic and flexible with her mediums and subjects so she used to catch my imagination and lead me to try new and interesting things. Sadly , I own very little of the stuff that I've done as most of it got lost, given away or chucked, save for one rather nice Chinese ink drawing of a bamboo.

However, whilst digging out all of my equipment I found a few pictures of mine I didn't know that I actually have left, which reminded me that I used (ten years ago) to have the beginnings of some talent, but never did anything with it.

So, here's some of the shit I found in my parents' attic, but I'd like you guys to post what you've done, to point me (and other forum users) towards different areas of experimentation and to generally inspire new works of loveliness.

So, embarrassingly, here's some of the stuff of my 18/19 year old self that I found:

As a 19 year old, I of course enjoyed the female form:
Image

And, being a big nerdly nerd, sci fi:

Image

And (v. basic sketch of) aeroplanes:

Image
Fucked the roundel on the side of that one, but there we are.

So basically what we're looking for here is a busty woman in a starfleet uniform flying a spaceship?

If only I still had the landscapes I'd done, there wouldn't be such a theme.

But yeah, basically I want people to post portraits of Starbuck, yes.

Ooh, that last one is lovely. I should really make time to draw, but it always takes me forever and I end up wanting to do something else halfway through.

Even comic-y things. I did a load of them on a whim several years back, and still have loads of scripts for them, but it took so long to get the drawings looking at all right that I ended up putting it on hiatus until I sorted a few things out (like everything, sob).

Image

Excluding cartoons, these are about the only things I ever finished:

Image

And, as an experiment, something I did without my usual meticulous, painstaking method of examining every microdot a bajillion times until it looks okay:

Image

It's quite sad, really.

You! Draw stuff. You'll be glad you did.

Ooooh, Sinister - that is a very nice horse. They're a bit of a specialist subject, I understand. I can well sympathise with that attitude, actually, as they seem ghastly things to set down accurately. I may have a go, though.

Yaaay! I never knew what that tune was called, but it is the best, and I was humming it to myself while typing.

Cheers. It took me over a year to draw that. I drew the forelegs one afternoon in an art class over about an hour, and it stayed like that for about fourteen months. Then I had another spontaenous urge and finished the rest of it all at once.

I hated art after about year 9. The wankiness of the teachers and the artsy drama girls and the obsession with trying to be an artist instead of just doing what you feel like got on my tits. And they'd pres you for volume all the time - this one kid in the class who I used to be sarcastic with draw fantastically with chalk and ink as well as paint, but he'd take aaaages to do it. It'd be far, far better than what some of the class were doing, but because they did five times as much and, say, sellotaped some plastic to the front of it, they'd get all the praise while all he'd get was a mouthful to hurry up, and eventually "Oooh, you should make that into a mask!"

"What? I've drawn it. It's done. Make a mask? What the fuck for?"

He probably had more in common with the great artists they all wank over (I can imagine them swearing at a teacher before I can imagine them banging on about batik) than the kid using his own toenails in a collage, but he didn't have the layers of bullshit needed to impress in that class. And it used to annoy the hell out of me even before then that they'd spend so much time encouraging you to directly rip other peple off. Bah.

I am non-fussed about the quality of my pictures, as is probably clear from the above. Drawing whatever the hell you want is great, and I sometimes wonder why more people don't do it.

It's from a still I captured from the video for Green Day - Boulevard of Broken Dreams.

That is excellent indeed, Clam.

Also I like that turnip. It has character.

If we're doing girlfriends, allow me to post a self-portrait by someone who isn't my girlfriend, although she is a girl, and we are friends. And I so would. Ahem.

Yeah, she was doing another one, from another scene I "grabbed" for her, but that got abandoned when we moved.

She really loves to paint, but she rarely gets the time to do it.

Oils are the one thing I haven't tried - mainly as they seem really frakking difficult. My ex used to paint a lot in them, but it always looked like a hella faff to me.

I have quite a few pictures I'd like to share with you a few drawings and paintings that I have in London, but I won't be back for a while. I have one of a praying mantis that I did when I was 13 which I still love, and a few paintings that I have done more recently.

I only have digital work on my computer/web at the moment, so I don't know if you see that as 'counting' as such, but here is an homage to Julian Opie's work, particularly his cover of one of Blur's albums, but with a fabber four:

Image

And then an equally iconic lady got the treatment:

Image

I don't really have much more to hand but hopefully I'll remember to upload some bits and pieces in a more physical medium if this thread is still active by the time I get back to London next.

I need to do more, I really do. But there are too many games I have to play.

I like mixing up hand drawn with digital and getting down and dirty with acrylic paint.

Anyhoo here's something I made earlier:

This thread is full of too many awesome things by people with talent. I better lower the tone.

About 5 years ago I started a comic strip based about my loathed enemy Uri Geller (little changes) and Movie Heart throb Steve Guttenberg living together.... with hilarious consequences!

This was strip #1.

Image

I think I made 3 in total. Arts/Comedy/Cartoons aren't my strong point.

Bonus points for : Copious amounts of cup-a-soup, fiery beard.

Points lost for : Lack of those Cannock references he seems to enjoy, no chicken based variety of cup-a-soup.

His hand's at his crotch, but not touching his penis. That's 3 points off for a lack of realism. Otherwise, supoib! That really does look immensely like him.

I'd like to include an art gallery on the main site so thought this thread a good starting point if people don't mind. If you'd rather your work of art wasn't included can you say so in this thread or PM me and I'l keep it out. Ta. :)

Dimrill, do you post your stuff on b3ta? It's full of cunts these days, but I imagine your stuff would go down a treat. Plus, it's likely to get passed around a fair bit from there. Then people will look at your website and give you money and stuff.
