I thought it was last week and made a lovely dinner for my mum in law. None of us realised it was early. So I ended up making Nigella's Quadruple Chocolate Cake for today.

I had a lie in (kinda cancelled out by the clocks going forwards), then we went out for breakfast. I got some Lego and some blue tit glassware, and Russell cooked a roast, then I had a bubble bath. 10/10 mumming.

And tomorrow I have a day off in lieu for catering a work function last week.

Starting websites is mostly a pointless, fruitless endeavour but I've decided to make one about watches. I've a couple of websites do okay in the past (ie - they had a few readers but weren't exactly IGN) and a couple that were brilliant, a lot of hard work and entirely ignored (admittedly they were incredibly niche - one was about the '80s UK horror comic Scream and the other was about Judge Death the 2000AD supervillain). So I can see this going poorly.

The thing is, my main website now does get us a lot of free games. We got onto Metacritic back in 2016 and so most of the PRs in gaming consider us to be a 'real' site. Admittedly, 90% of what we get is pure indie slop but people like EA, Ubisoft, Sega and Warner Bros do hit us up with games. Occasionally Sony too (not as much as I'd like considering we've got PlayStation in our name). To this day it's still quite surprising when you get Far Cry 6 or Returnal or whatever sent to you. Although most of the time it's a 16-bit looking Metroidvania from 'eastasiasoft' or 'Ratalaika' or whatever.

(actually if anyone here has a PS4 and really likes anime-style visual novels, let me know - I've got a ton of codes for them).

With the watch thing, I'd like to eventually convince watch microbrands that we're worthy of reviewing their watches. I feel like that's a pretty lofty goal but it'd at least pay for itself in that way.

I nipped to the supermarket tonight for a few little bits. After I put the shopping in the boot I took the trolley over to the little trolley shelter. There were some trolleys in it and a few alongside, but all scattered around. I started gathering and stacking the trolleys, as the trolley collection chap doesn’t work that late in the evening. A man of about my age brought his trolley to the shelter as I was sorting the different types of trolleys into stacks, and two of the ones I was moving got a bit stuck on each other. The man helped me separate them and stack the rest. Then he said a few lovely things, and ended it with ‘and I appreciate you’, and I said I appreciated him, too, and I think from his smile it reflected the exact same warmth I felt of a little passing interaction that just made a little positive difference to the day. Sometimes I can lose faith in humanity a bit, and someone stopping to help me do that little job and then make me feel good about it was just so nice.

Remember folks, keep your grenades out of direct sunlight.

Is there a word that describes something being narrow, but in a vertical sense? Not ‘squat’ because that makes something sound chunky, but more something delicate.

I’m thinking specifically of a rectangle, like a website banner, that’s specifically very small in the vertical measurement.

Both those (to me) mean to be tall and thin rather than that same idea turned 90°. I think ‘short and squat’ is probably right, but it seems to have quite negative connotations when the shape is actually quite delicate.

Elongated? Probably has negative connotations too now because of Musk.

Strange, isn’t it? There isn’t a word to describe the specific thoe of rectangle that it is that coveys that it is landscape in orientation and particularly long and thin, but there are several words that would describe it if it were sitting in its short end.

Anyway, not to worry. It wasn’t for any reason, just a conversation I was having in my own head.

Shallow is right. I think a lot of the words are right. But none of them quite work for a shake. Shallow is liquid, or a put. Shallow is for something that contains something else. I don’t know.

I think maybe we just done have a specific word that fits perfectly, but lots of words that sort of work.
