Maybe we should all just post without reading or correcting and see where it leads.

Theological question : on radio 4 the other day some guy on TffD was talking about the big J coming down from heaven to earth and that was his sacrifice. Which is fine. Did he pop out with all the heavenly knowledge preloaded, or did he have to learn not to stick forks in toasters and shizzle?

That’s a very good question indeed. Maybe he ‘heard voices’ that told him that tax collectors were bad, etc. at the appropriate moments.

And, to take your point further, although there were no toasters in those days, did he have pre-knowledge that they would be invented in the distant future?

[edit] Very possibly [end edit]

Personally, I think Brian Cox (for example) is just making shit up as he goes along. He’s a nice enough chap, but I watched the end of that programme about the Science of Dr. Who this week, and his explanation of event horizons was totally unfathomable. Or maybe I just reached the limit of my intelligence, once again, like I did when we started on integral calculus when I was supposed to be studying A level maths.

I think it must be a)amazing and b) terrible, to understand that stuff. I sometimes wish I knew everything, but I’m also glad that I don’t.

Jesus lived a normal life until Megatron as Alan Rickman came down from heaven and told him he was the Messiah.

That's how I remember it

Is there an index on the behaviour column? Because if there isn't then sorting it is frankly wasteful in that instance.

Why is behaviour a char type? Seems like an enum would be a better choice.

Given that you'd also expect multiple kids living at the same address, normalising out address data into another table would be sensible, but yet there's no sign of a join.

Plus there’s only a need to sort it once.

And if I was thinking about read speed I’d be tempted to put a NOLOCK hint in case the number of births being inserted into the table were locking it up.

Valid point, or you'll just start queueing all your inserts, given the birth rate.

I’m glad you validated that as I’m entirely self taught.

I was composing a second verse in my head as I was making tea, something along the lines of:
He knows when you’ve been seeking
In your execution plan
In order to make the nice list
You need an index scan.

Well, he's only just made his database. He hasn't even created the `contacts` table yet, let alone populated it.

Sorting it twice seems extra redundant in that case

It's because he's making it himself, no mention of qualified IT staff anywhere there. Frankly I'm amazed he hasn't done it in a fucking spreadsheet. The whole thing will be living on a shitty laptop hard drive with no back ups and when that disk shits the bed it's no toys for anyone. Won't somebody think of the children?

I dunno, there's a lot of kids. Maybe they're keeping it denormalised because of trading off storage efficiency for sheer QPS.

Kov is very much more in keeping with the description of the ghost of Christmas present. Large and loud.
