Ruth is out watching Bridget Jones so I have the telly ( also I get to go to a beer festival tomorrow night, so I think I got the better end of that deal) and I've just started watching John Wick. I want a beagle.

My dad (The Rock) did Lovejoy's electrics at his house. He took me to meet Lovejoy when I was small. I had literally no idea who he was. We also fixed his TV.

You can tell how long ago it was by the fact that he had his TV repaired rather than just by a new one.

I remember how to fix an eighties TV. You look concerned and upset, shake your head and say 'it's your tube that's gone'.

I don't know. It's who people on here said he looked like 'The Rock'. I don't know who Dwayne Johnson is, though.

I went to school with a few of the McShane's. Never met the man himself, but knew he was a local.

So, great film, although bit weird with the Russian at the end, and that last dog was a really crap choice

Just watched 'Everyone's Going To Die' on Netflix. I feel a bit cheated though. The description on there is -

'In a quiet coastal town, Melanie is watching life pass her by when she crosses paths with Ray, who's returned home to carry out a nefarious plot.'

Sounds a little dark and sinister. Certainly more so than the IMDB summary which I read after -

'Two lost souls. One last chance. Melanie's life in a seaside town is going nowhere until she meets Ray, back in town with a shady job to do. A moment's escape becomes a chance to save themselves, and each other. Everyone's Going To Die is a modern British story about coming home, getting by and the redemptive power of feeling you're not alone. A story where porn hotlines rub shoulders with sexy beavers on rollerskates; where the past is laid to rest, two lives are changed and nobody, finally, is going to die.'

Not a bad film, but not what I was expecting to see.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, was really good. Quite scary for a kids films and well thought out.

The teaser trailer for the new Power Rangers movie. It looks like I shall be enjoying this one!

Also, they have everything but a Twitter account to promote it? Weird.

**Edit** Forget that. They are using @ThePowerRangers... :belm:

It's neat that Bryan Cranston is back, after having done some of the voices for the monsters in the original series. Dunno why they didn't put him in the trailer.

If you haven't watched the Siege of Jadotville, watch the Siege of Jadotville. And then read about it. As an (half) Irishman I'm slightly embarrassed I'd never heard of it. Really really quite astonishing and sad story (particularly the aftermath).

Saw 'Demolition' last night (free on Google Play for O2 customers at the mo if you have the priority app thing).

Not a bad film, but not great either. As it's essentially about how a bloke (Jake Gyllenhaal) works through his grief after the death of his wife, there isn't a huge amount of story in there, so two-thirds of the way in and I was starting to lose interest, but it does build to a good ending.

Some good stuff in the soundtrack too, like Free's 'Mr Big' which I'm listening to at the moment. :)

A trench on the 1st Death Star, in a film about the 1st Death Star?

It looks like a road to a landing pad :)

Plus they might have seen you fly in x-wing and want you as far from buildings as possible.

I should get round to watching The Force Awakens at some point, but have found it hard to drum up the motivation to do so. It's sat there on the NAS, Mrs Hearthly and Jnr saw it at the pictures and also at home and say it's very good.

If you're not interested to the extent that you have to "drum up motivation" then it's probably best to not bother.

Not true. I did this with the first Avengers movie. Missed it at the cinema, never bothered to download it but caught it on channel 4. I really enjoyed it!

Haven't watched the second one yet though...

Room (2015) - sort of like a super bleak Kimmy Schmidt. Brie Larson (who got the best actress Oscar for the role) plays the mother of a five year old boy; they are living in captivity in a soundproofed shed. Up until ten minutes from the end, I couldn't have guessed if it would end hopefully or shatteringly depressingly. And I'm not going to spoil it by telling you which. I don't want to say any more, the less you know the better.

Strongly recommended. It's on Amazon Prime streaming.

The Girl on the train

I really enjoyed it. Not heard a lot about it, not the sort of film I normally watch.

Bit of a slow burner but picks up speed, a great ending.

I watched BLOOD FATHER with Mel Gibson in it.

Overall the film was good but this is mostly down to the better cast members, particularly Gibson himself who may be a bit of a questionable chap IRL on occasion but can certainly deliver a fantastic onscreen presence. Unfortunately the character of his daughter is either written a bit wrong or acted a bit wrong and she's something of a weak link in what needs to be a convincing and pivotal role.

It's very much a by-the-numbers genre piece in many regards, elevated to the status of a recommended watch by virtue of great performances from (most of) the cast, along with some lovely cinematography and well constructed action sequences.

Also it should be more violent, I note it's got a 15 off the BBFC and some of the violence felt a bit curtailed, maybe some snips to get the R rating in the US, not sure - I definitely wanted more crunchy and squishy stuff going on though.

7.5/10 - Definitely worth a look.
