Thanks, lovers!

I got the Firefly deckbuilding game (coming soon to a Cottage near you), Dungeon Roll, a Coup expansion set, a GoPro-like camera, two bottles of Sriracha Goose sauce, and a griddle pan.

I may be being dense, but I changed my theme to the new mobile one and now I can't work out how to change it back, the UCP doesn't give me any options to control it.

If you're using the /m link, you can't. It will always go to the new style. If you want the old style, edit the URL to have style=19 instead of whatever it is now

To be clear, you are on a desktop and want to switch from the mobile theme back to the desktop theme?

Or you're on a phone and you want the old mobile theme back?

?style=2 sorted it, thanks.

Changed it on my desktop. I'll use the /m link from now on on my phone.

Taking the whole style bit out of the URL would have worked, too.

I thought that, but there wasn't a style bit in the URL after I'd changed it to that in my board preferences.

Off to Brussels tomorrow, never been before so quite looking forward to it. The need to quickly pack for the cottage (remembering a towel and underpants) before heading into work on Friday

Had definite date for Singapore move - January 2018. I have a feeling the time will fly by.

Sorry for derailing this thread again, but I couldn't find a more appropriate place to put it (or didn't look hard enough) but I need a bit of technical advice. My (admittedly ancient) LaCie external hard drive was working perfectly until about half an hour ago, at which point it started making clicking noises, followed by beeping and clicking noises. I've tried multiple restarts, using different cables and ports, all sorts of stuff, but all to no avail. Googling the problem seems to suggest that something's sticking inside it and the drive needs physically taking apart to unstick the stuck part; however as far as I can tell it's a sealed unit, so I'm not sure how I could do this short of drilling through the casing, in which case I doubt I'd be able to get it back together again in any sort of working order.

It's not like there's anything important on it - mainly lots of old documents, photos, films and suchlike - but I'd quite like to get the data back. There's nothing dodgy on it (porn's not really my thing), so I've no compunction about letting a "data recovery expert" at it, but being a skinflint, I'm loathe to do that as they would undoubtedly charge me for the privilege. So, before writing it off as defunct, I wonder if any of you clever people have any other ideas as to what to do?

Tried that already, using a big fuckoff hammer through a layer of rubber sheeting, but it's a no-go, I'm afraid.

Yeah, that sounds pretty dead to me. Try it in another computer if you haven't already, just in case.

And back up your stuff!

You could try disassembling it. If it's pretty much a write off, what's left to lose. It's likely a standard hard drive inside anyway. Plugging ti directly into a PC might (might) make a difference.

Cheers for all the advice guys; I've a mate coming to visit on Friday, so I'll try it on his laptop, then we'll have a go at getting into it.

If it is ultimately fucked though, it still probably doesn't really matter as I've probably got most of what was on it backed up elsewhere; I'm one of these weirdos who never deletes anything (aside from obvious spam/crap etc.) and have got another external drive with most of what was on the broken drive anyway, so I'm not overly concerned. I'm a serial backer-upper; even when I used to write stuff on the Spectrum, I kept all the versions-in-progress rather than taping over them "just in case" and that was when blank cassettes used to cost, ooh, multiple pence each :)

I sort of tried to do this back when I was recording a load of songs with my old band on an cassette based 8 track. Each mix down had it's own tape so that I could compare the differences.... It didn't work out fantastically though and I soon lost track.

Brussels seems nice. Am staying near the Grand Place, so about to go and have a wander, as I can't make my remote access work so can't do any work. Of course I forgot to bring a UK power adaptor, so had to spend 10Euros on getting one from the hotel before my phone, Nexus and laptop all died (none of which were carrying above 20% charge today anyway...). Once the iphone has recharged a bit I'm off, as obviously I don't have a map and need to use google to tell me where I am.

a couple of good airbursts of nuclear bombs and western civilisation would revert to the stone age, wouldn't it?

The TV in your hotel room will probably have USB ports (although that won't help your laptop). Some hotels will lend you one if you ask at the front desk.

Live Drive takes about ten minutes to set up, then you can forget it forever.

I ended up buying one, as I needed to recharge the laptop. I asked at the desk but they said they stopped lending them out after they all got nicked.

Brussels is charmingly scuzzy. Lots of tramps with big dogs, and it seems to be faintly stuck in the 90s, from the radio music in the bars to the preponderance of shell suits.

I had dinner somewhere that the locals seemed to be at (food was mussels, obvs) but am now looking for the motherland comfort of an irish pub.

Irish bar playing loads of British 90s indie music. This is awesome and ironical.

I haven't looked on sinister Facebook for about three weeks (I still use the messenger app on my phone because some friends aren't hipster enough to use email). Every day for the past fortnight or so, it's sent me a message along the lines of 'X updated their status' or 'Some guy you met in a youth hostel in 2011 shared a photo' to lure me back. Of course, if I try to stop these notifications I'll have to log on thereby breaking the cold turkey stuff.

How is it sending you the messages? You should be able to turn of these notifications as well to help.
