Aye.

I've been really enjoying the 'Last Leg' during the games. Never really followed the Paralympics before.

I have also just discovered this and agree with the above muchly. Just got on to Season 2 - it's all on iPlayer so easy enough to watch.

DJ Beats is one of my new favourite comedy characters.

Starting watching it last night very funny!

BBC Four: 'Gaga for Dada: the original art rebels'.

The new regeneration of Jonathan Meades, Mr Vic Reeves, presents an absurd look at the absurd history and influence of Dada. Highly enjoyable, even if I'm still not sure what Dada is.

Highlight is the balacava moment.

Which just leaves Paul Hollywood. Could he go and make himself an even bigger part of the show, Or will he stick with the BBC? It's exciting isn't it?

A cooking competition, you say? On television?! That's so unique!

That seems needlessly harsh for what must be quite a high pressure time for her.

Does she go and stay employed, or step down as others around her have done in a high profile way?

Seems like a situation I wouldn't want to be in.

The show couldn't exist without Mary Berry or someone just like her. Paul Hollywood is an odious self-assured man-child. He's a drama queen and pretentious with it, and you need the gentle positivity Mary brings, along with the mockery of Paul from Mel & Sue, to balance that out.

Agreed! Mary and Paul represent the light and the dark side of baking. Mary's like the amalgam of every nice Nana or Aunt in the would who just wants you to do well and make nice things, and Paul's obsessed with the technical end result and proving himself right. And he has dead eyes. Like a doll's eyes.

Do you think? I tend to just ignore what he says (moreso when he makes a big dramatic display of anything) and listen to Mary. I've not seen Peter Cowell in anything though, only his pictures.

I think his hair is demonstration itself that his opinion should not count for anything. Much like Paul Hollywood's jeans.

He was on Radio 4 talking about his life and upbringing. He seemed to be quite nice.

I don't think it makes you less odious just because you only act odious.

I used to work with a horrible creepy, sexist pig of a man, wildly inappropriate, said some things to me that made me hate him. Someone said 'oh, he's not always like that... just at work'. Knowing you're not always an arsehole outside of work does not stop me sitting at work thinking you're an arsehole.

Oh, Paul Hollywood has signed to stay. Lol.

You know they're told what to say and how to act, right?

You'll be saying that you think they choose who is kicked off each week next.

Did you see that interview with Mel and Sue where they said they didn't like how the producers delighted in filming crying contestants, so whenever someone started crying they'd just walk over next to them and start swearing their heads off :D

Nigella is on Masterchef Australia. And "The Taste" or whatever it's called, if they're still making that.

It just seems odd that you are trying to school me on how TV cookery shows are made when I worked on a TV cookery show...

It goes back to what I was saying... knowing the work arsehole isn't an arsehole outside of work doesn't mean you think better if his arseholish work ways.

It doesn't make Paul Hollywood any more likeable on screen in his role. Mary Berry's niceness is a balance.

Hmm, but it's not like your ex-colleague was told to deliberately be an arsehole to you (and may have been otherwise nice when the cameras weren't rolling)

But, unless I'm mistaken, there's nothing to make you think Paul Hollywood is an arsehole besides what you see on TV.

But if it is scripted and he's the character "Paul Hollywood, Jaded Baker", then it surely changes stuff? Bruno Ganz was a bit of a dick in Downfall but he was playing Hitler but I am fairly sure he doesn't test poison on dogs.

There's a difference between being an actor and being a presenter. Convincingly acting like a complete arsehole is probably a bit difficult for someone who isn't either at least a bit of an arsehole or a good actor.

What are you actually arguing against here, though?

That I like Mary Berry?
That I think the positivity of MB is nice as a balance to PH?
That I don't much like the on-screen persona of PH and don't think that the off-screen him makes watching him on-screen any more enjoyable?
Or just because I must always be wrong about everything? :D

I'm not going to magically like Paul Hollywood on GBBO just because he seems nice on the radio.

Because of the #GBBO that appears at the start of each episode, I like to call it The Great British Gabbo.

Now you can, too!

The point being, it is in all liklihood scripted, and he's paid to be hard on the idiots.

That I think it's a bit of a false equivalence between the guy at work who was being an arsehole and Paul Hollywood who was being an arsehole. The strong likelihood is that the work guy is actually an arsehole whereas Paul Hollywood was playing a role.

That's the first time you've differentiated between the person you see on TV and the person he is, though. You started out calling him an odious man-child in a non-TV context. And then compared him to the arsehole at work.

Hmm, but it's not like your ex-colleague was told to deliberately be an arsehole to you (and may have been otherwise nice when the cameras weren't rolling)

That I think it's a bit of a false equivalence between the guy at work who was being an arsehole and Paul Hollywood who was being an arsehole. The strong likelihood is that the work guy is actually an arsehole whereas Paul Hollywood was playing a role.

And I think that Mimi was saying that Even So:

knowing you're not always an arsehole outside of work does not stop me sitting at work thinking you're an arsehole.

Even if part of his job is literally pretending to be an arsehole?

Maybe he's an arsehole who is paid to be a nice guy when not on the telly and is told to be himself when on the programme.
