Was that the one with the aircraft carrier going back in time? It sounds super-cool, but I heard it got bad reviews. Good, then?

I thought so yeah, but I think I might have been about ten or so at the time. I also liked Condorman.

On the subject of WWII pacific theatre based films I watched "The Eternal Zero" the other night. I really enjoyed it, it's kind of a family drama about a Kamikaze pilot and his grandson in modern day Japan trying to learn about his story. It's on Netflix and well worth checking out.

Just realised that probably made it sound quite a bit more dull than it is. Most of the film is flashbacks to war time and features people fighting each other in cool planes. But the other bits were quite touching and had me welling up.

Straight outa Compton. I'm ashamed that I've had this for what seems like forever but not watched it. So I did today and it was fucking excellent.

Primer brings three great pleasures, in this order: the first is on your first watch when The Thing happens and your brain goes "WHUUUT"; the second is around your fifth watch when you start to puzzle out some of the non-obvious stuff that is going on; the third is when you are with someone who hasn't seen it before and The Thing happens.

Can't see this mentioned anywhere else - is everyone aware of CinemaSins?

It's basically what the internet was invented for - picking out the holes in films and then scoring the number of sins accordingly.

It's a pedant's dream, so I have watched just about all of them naturally.

Honest Trailers is also worth a watch because it's probably Craster doing the voice over based on how many times he mentions "Bewbs"

Have a busy Friday folks.

Didn't like. Started watching the Force Awakens one and pretty much the first thing he said about the star destroyer's "shadow" was just some absolute nonsensical bollocks which would be forgiveable but he also has that annoying YouTubey fast talking smug twat voice so I turned it off.

Cinema Sins started off good, but - like many things - got bad as it got more popular.

In a rare move for me I'm also off to see Marvel's new Cap'n Crunch film on opening day this evening. Something I seldom do for films that aren't by Hayao Miyazaki.

I loved Winter Soldier, so I'm eager to see this. Age of Ultron was indeed a bit meh. It would have worked far better as a slimmed down, shorter film. It seemed forced to go places it didn't want to go. Still, an enjoyable experience at the cinema and clearly a lot of effort was put into it, it's just one I don't plan on seeing again.

In fact - list time! Here are the Marvel films wot-I-have-seen ranked according to my enjoyment. Of them.

1: Avengers
2: Captain America: The Winter Soldier
3: Guardians of the Galaxy
4: Spiderman 2
5: Iron Man 3
6: Iron Man
7: Captain America
8: Spiderman
9: Thor
10: Ant Man
11: X-Men 2
12: X-Men: (That one set in the 60's with McAvoy, um. Forget title.)
13: Avengers 2: Age of Ultron
14: X-Men
15: Spiderman 3
16: Fantastic 4: Something Something Silver Surfer (Be quiet, I enjoyed this one. Affable fun and oddly epic at the end.)
17: Thor 2
18: Iron Man 2
19: X-Men 3
20: The Hulk (Ang Lee's)

But where will Cap'n America: Civil Debate place? Ooooh.

AoU was a good example of the worst aspects of Marvel Films:

1) forgettable villain, although somewhat redeemed by Spader's superb voice work
2) overstuffed with characters
3) overstuffed with plot arcs designed to set up future films
4) overstuffed with everything
5) in trying to deliver on the ever-larger-third-act-spectacle, ended up being too much sustained noise

It still had plenty going for it, mind.

Hated Looper. Loved In Time. That's all I have to say here. Well that and I've not been to the cinema in far too long now (like nearly 3 weeeks!) Maybe I'll go and spend all day there on monday.

To be fair, hardly my normal cup of tea (Bill Nighy isn't known for exploding helicopters afterall), but this was such a sensitive, bittersweet, gentle and above all, very British drama. Very poignant, quite original and not at all overdone; a good story well told. I found the eclectic soundtrack very good, too. (Jimmy Fontana = fecking lounge lizard legend; man, he sounds good on my ridiculous valve-driven hifi, glass of Italian red in hand)

Just seen Civil War. Pretty darn good, refreshing plot, great fights and very good character work. Flags just a little a third of the way in where momentum sort of fails, but soon picks up speed again resulting in a great finale. Best fight I think everyone will agree on.

I'd rate it in top 8 Marvel movies, still no Avengers and doesn't have the on-the-run tension of Winter Soldier, but still a darn good film. 4/5 from me. Might go up a little on eventual DVD re-watch.

Demented laughter from the giant Ant-Man was the audience's biggest laugh-out-loud moment. :)

I'd rate Drive as the better of the two myself, but there's not much in it.

Seen both films three or four times now, they're both absolutely superb, you almost feel them more than watch them.

Valhalla Rising is the best Nwr film. Drive is also great even though I still can't forgive what happened to Christina Hendricks character.

Only god forgives was boring. A pretty kind of boring, but still boring.

Balls. We paid for coffee and could have gotten it free. MrsA's housekeeping has been adjusted accordingly.

There are 9 people in the cinema, 6 of which are over 12

Better than Ultron, not as good as Assemble. Took me a while to realise I haven't seen a couple of the other films so that's why I didn't know why everyone knew each other.

While they used Marvel characters, they weren't Marvel films or part of the MCU.

Better than Ultron, not as good as Assemble.

That covers a lot of Marvel films :)

Most of them, by my count...!

And it's funny, because Ultron isn't by any means a bad film. It has fun bits, good one-liners and some great fights. It just goes on for far too long and ends up being agonisingly indecisive as to whether Tony Stark has changed or learnt anything or not. It's a film I had a good time watching at the cinema, but there's no desire to re-watch it. Whereas Avengers Assemble is screwball joyous fun.

Anyway, guess that Ultron's low placement means the Marvel batting average is pretty good.

Assemble
Guardians
Thor
Civil War
Captain America 1
Thor 2

The others I haven't seen I dob't think. They've gone a bit Bourney in my mind.
