I bet this has been done to death on the internet yet I can't see a single topic on here. Ok, I only searched "Best" and scrolled down 6 topics, but that's good enough for me.

The reason for this is the following ending of a game I've never played which warped my tiny little mind. Here's a link.

http://youtu.be/97GDQOBLk6E

Is that the best EVA? Prove your metal by saying otherwise and maybe even bothering to find a link to youtube so people can scrutinise your evidence.

And, yes, there is a high probability of spoilers.

This is an excellent question...and one I currently have no answer to at all! I apparently don't care about the endings to games any more as I barely even remember most of them. Hmm. I'll look through The List and see if any of then bear any kind of comment...

I liked the ending to FF9, Mirrors Edge, Dead or Alive 4 (Helena's ending) and Portal, obv.
Are we talking "video" endings, or endings you play?

I really enjoyed the (video) ending of FFX, it was bitter-sweet, especially the bit where Tidus
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
jumps off the air ship and gives the ghost/spirit/summoning (whatever it was called) of his dad a high-five as he falls past

My father was pretty ill at the time and later died, so the father-son aspect of the story kind of resonated at the time and has remained with me since. I think I might even have shed a little tear. I certainly felt a little emotional watching it on youtube just now :'(

I really enjoyed the ending to Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
You spend the entire game fighting off hordes of sand creatures unleashed when the Vizier, the main antagonist in the game broke the seal on the Sands of Time. It's clear throughout the game that you are telling the story of your adventure to someone, both through cutscenes and because whenever you die time rewinds to the last checkpoint and your character says "No wait, it didn't happen like that..." and then it just carries on.

Halfway through the game you meet up with Farah, a beautiful princess, and daughter of the Maharajah, who was killed after the Vizier tricked you into unleashing the Sands. You continue the rest of the journey together, becoming closer to each other even though initially you both don't trust one another. While you're both waiting to die in a tomb that is closed off, she tells you a magic word that her mother told her would remove all fear, a story she'd never told anyone before. You escape the tomb and continue.

Farah ends up sacrificing her life to save yours, and you go off to fight the Vizier. He tries to persuade you to join him, but you instead reverse the damage he did and put the sands back where they belong. Time rewinds to the day before all the bad stuff happened, and it is then revealed that the person you're telling the story to is Farah, who's bedroom you have now sneaked to. She obviously has no knowledge of anything you're telling her, as it never happened for her, and she doesn't believe such an outlandish story.

The Vizier comes in, and seeing you both, assumes that his upcoming treachery has been revealed, and tries to kill you both. You kill him instead (in a hilariously easy boss battle) and Farah asks why you made up such a ridiculous story just to prove the Vizier had an evil plan.

You then kiss her, but she rejects you - and you rewind time again to before the kiss, and as you leave, you say the magic word to her that she told you in the tomb, and she looks all dumbstruck.

Very cheesy, but it was very well done in the game.

Man, it must have taken you a really long time to do the first two levels.

I recently started playing it again. It's still really good (although it not being in widescreen takes some getting used to).

I seem to remember thinking that the battles were stupidly repetitive after a while though, but then I thought the same thing about Arkham Asylum more recently.

I was surprised how much the fighting was like the Batman games, actually.

There's a video of all the UFO endings in Silent Hills, which is a bit weird. Nothing on the scale of the first post though.

I've been meaning to play it again as I never completed it first time around. Didn't realise it wasn't in widescreen though. Weren't all games in widescreen at that point in time? Clearly not.

Are these HD remakes only on the PS3?

I have them on the ps3, no idea if they're available on other platforms but it would be a bit wierd if they weren't.

They're not. Neither are the Hitman remasters.

I think it's part of the Classics HD range published by Sony that included Ico/SotC, MGS, Ratchet & Clank and Devil May Cry, so not all that odd.

Get a PS3.

MGS HD is certainly on Xbox, most of the others are sony IPs.

I've seen those, they're hilarious. I read they've existed in every Silent Hill over some 6-odd games and has its own counter-story. Was there a song about a dog brushing his teeth in there too?

Anyhoo.

The Best Ending in a Game is of course Shadow of the Colossus. Why, I hear absolutely no one ever asking? Well, because it makes you genuinely sad. I reckon it's the only game where I've welled up at the end. It'd be remiss to reveal the ending even in a spoiler as it's just one of those experiences that you have to play through to the end without ever stopping to worry about whatever gaming mechanics it doesn't get right. Just facking play it, complete it, then wonder whether you will ever have the strength to love someone that much.
