Will the text be readable at 480p?

I'm very excited about this. It's a pain to play DR on a SDTV, so that alone makes it appealing. That a motion controls should be fun.

I think a certain amount of nintendo's terrible show at E3 can be put down to them using it as an advertising platform to get in the normal news so not wanting to look geeky. The twats. Dead Rising, de Blob, Wario Land: Shake are at least three games coming that I want.

If they take the time to fix the truly horrible aiming controls, this could be decent.

It's shit on an SDTV, so lets get a crapper console to put it on an SDTV.

You may have to explain this reasoning.

I think what he's saying is that they'll have to adjust the text size to adapt for SDTV, seeing as that's what it's designed for in this version. Of course, they may well just port most of it over, in which case it'll still look shit.

Thing is, while I've not played Dead Rising on an HDTV yet, I have played several games that had tiny text that was still barely legible in HD, too. And it's not just my cacky eyesight - in fact, I had less trouble reading the text it, for example, Army of Two, than my housemate with 20/20 vision did.

On the 360 they made the font too small. No technical problem other than the fact that they chose a small font and thought that was a good idea.

There was a big hoohah, and people asked them to patch it.

Capcom went "We understand the problem, but it would be too much effort to patch it so fuck off"

So when making a game for a native SD console they would presumably fix that problem, and hence I would have a version of the game I could read.

It's not rocket science.

In fact I should have just said:

A game designed for a HDTV was hard to read on a SDTV
The same game designed for a SDTV will presumable be easier to read on a SDTV

You twat.

With a decent SDTV and a decent video cable, there is no problem.

Otis does need punching in his stupid beardy face, though.

I had dead rising though an official rgb scart onto my £100 goodman's telly. The text was not the problem I had with that game.

I can't see it from my couch. I have to perch on the edge of the TV to see it. And I live in a very small london flat.

I do have a RGB scart cable though - connected to the right port as well...

It's more to do with the screen size I guess - not that I've had any real problem with any other games..

Well, I'm faintly hopeful. Fingers crossed that they actually fix some of the shittier bits. And feed Otis to the zombs in the first five minutes.

You shouldn't have to buy flashy fucking cables and televisions just to read basic text on a screen. You didn't have to in 1985, and there's even less fucking need now.

It was unplayable because:

a) the text was unreadable on a 'normal' TV ( I saw no 'not playable on normal telly' stickers)

b) the controls rivalled only Last Ninja 2 for their level of frustration.

i had the coolest nightmare last night. My hometown was overrun with zombies and i had to escape to my house protecting my girlfriend with one hand while killing zombies with a sawed-off shotgun with the other.

After that i have no need to play these kind of games.

But then your shotgun ran out and you accidentally ate your medical kit. And then your girlfriend got stuck behind some benches and ran fruitlessly against them until the zombies ate her. And then she multiplied like an amoeba, and every twentieth zombie looked like her.

not really, but in my dream my mom was an hairdresser and she was the one that provided the community with shotgun shells.

Some comparison screenshots of the Wii and 360 versions are here. For those who haven't been following this, the Wii version is not a straight port; the missions are linear now, with no Otis-realtime element.

Info on changes includes "uses RE4 game engine", "Improved save functionality allows for more seamless gameplay" and "aim and fire guns, swing and throw weapons and shake off zombie attacks with added Wii Remote functionality". So it is seeing changes from the 360 version, let's hope they are improvements.

I've always been put off DR by the annoying bits; I could see myself going for this version if they get everything right.

If the can manage to get enough Zombies on screen, then It could be fantastic.

Resident Evil 4: Wii edition makes me kinda hate the fact that RE 5 coming to the 360/PS3. It's such a step backwards in controls.

Though now they are porting the 'unportable game' that was used to justify the need for next gen, I think it's a cert that RE:5 will make it's way to the Wii eventually.

I'm just slightly sickened with myself that I will probably buy it twice. As it seems I will be doing for Dead Rising too.

Ooh, is RE4 coming the 360? I was half-tempted by the GC version, but I might just wait in that case.

Not that I've heard. I think Lave means that after playing RE4:Wii, RE5:360 is going to feel like a step back.

Yeah thats what I meant - sorry. Edited my post to now so it doesn't raise false hope.

And indeed it's going to be truly horrible going back to normal controls for RE. I understand that for a lot of games traditional is better. But for RE4 the Wii controls were divine.

'Managing' a group of villages, by effortlessly popping their knees and heads was glorious.

Can't wait for RE5. RE4 (GC) is one of my all time faves.

Not arsed about wiimote controls when the visuals will be ZOMG, plus the controls on 4 with my Wavebird were fine thankyouverymuch.

RE4 on Wii was ace, the controls really made it for me.

I've been looking forward to trying Dead Rising for ages - a friend was going to lend me the 360 version, wondering whether to bother now.....

If something requires the Wiimote to play assume I won't like it very much. The Wiimote just doesn't really like my living-room setup, so it doesn't work so well.

Oh yeah, I forgot, but that is slightly different. Thats not liking Wii remote controls because they don't work in your living room*. Which is slightly different, to preferring them.

* Presumably because of it's massive size and the fact it's full of gold.
