I got my base destroyed, and then when I tried to hide in a corner of the map and rebuild, proceeded to get my base destroyed before it had even finished building.

Hai!

Yeah, unfortunately you tried to land a base and 2 barracks where I'd just sent a scouting party of tanks and Thors. :DD

I'm so shit at Starcraft. However! According to the stats at the end I think I had the best economy. Shame didn't know what to spend it on.

Did some reading last night and found that you have to arrange your economy so that you maximise gathering and decide on your build tree before you start. It's the only way to sort it. So either massive ground or air. Then build shit loads while having an army large enough to take on a few small attacks.

Terran have the weakest economy and you require the mule to get it going in comparison to the other guys. Also block the entrance to your base with supply depots and barracks.

... that's all I managed to figure out last night before still getting spanked!

I decided to cut off the nydus worm network and I was slightly annoyed by zerg constantly being catapulted into my base. I went for the nydus worm so I wouldn't have zerg in my base. I actually found the last mission fairly easy.

I'm having a tough time once I get half way through, maybe it's because I took out their air support.

Also I've just realised I'm not building any of those Zerg-slower-downer-things  :belm: That should help LOADS when I try again.

I didn't bother. I'd researched the Zerg-taking-over-thing and didn't end up building very many at all.

How is it on the Pro Z? How recent is your system? I intend to purchase a Macbook Pro as soon as I have more than a fiver in the bank on a regular basis, and I was hoping to do a bit of the old "mobile" gaming on it.

It runs perfectly. The only thing is I have to have the graphic settings on low, but that's only due to my graphics card and processor, it's a two year old machine. It still looks great as Blizzard did a grand job with the scalability.

Ah cool, so it's safe to assume that on a new machine with a beefier card, I can run it on at least medium. I run it on ULTRA!!!! on this PC. :hat:

I'm more interested in the purity of the gaming experience than the smoke and mirrors. :attitude:

Yeah, it would be fine turning it up a notch on a newer machine. Shame they're all glossy displays and built in batteries these days. ;)

Yeah there's a demo!

edit: https://us.battle.net/account/sc2-demo.html

Pretty sure it's only the campaign though rather than multiplayer/skirmish mode, but that's not necessarily a bad thing!

3 defeats out of 3 now, but that last game ran the longest and I had the upper hand at one point.

5 minutes? Did you get attacked by a rush of SCV's?

The game I had last night was about 1.5 hours long. Pretty enjoyable too until I lost.

I'm finding the Challenge levels quite helpful. The beginner set is good for understanding the scissor/paper/stone aspect of some of the units. I'll defo play through the rest of them too, inbetween getting slaughtered in multiplayer.

Actually 5 minutes! Everyone sends in their probes and builds photon cannons in my base! I spend most the time chasing them out before getting taken out by 2 of what ever they build first units.

8) I'll have to watch out for that if I'm up against Protoss, only ever seem to get games against Zerg though.

Are Terrans just shit?

Terrans are ok if you can last long enough to get the big guns out and decide on a tech tree from what I can see, although I need to get there yet. It seems to be very difficult using the building blocking at the entrance to your base technique that you can do with the Terrans. Every time a unit has managed to get in and pester my SCV's.

Most of the "pro" matches I've been watching on YouTube are between 15 and 20 minutes long. If you're playing for 1.5 hours, all you're doing is amassing a giant army until one of you finally decides to attack the other, then it's basically down to luck (whoever built the best units for dealing with the other guy's units).

Sometimes that's fun, but it's not really very tactical, and it only works if both of you are happy to sit back and build for ages. I imagine if you sat back and built whilst playing a better player, they'd be rushing in at the 15 minute mark and spunking in your eyes.

Nope, wasn't like that really, he attacked early on with a small group but I'd decided to fortify my base, I then countered and it carried on like that for some time. My undoing was branching out to the middle of the map which at first went well, until I was discovered and got swamped.

I'll let you off then!

Seriously though - 1.5 hours of nibbling at each other is a pretty cool scenario. I love how any game can go in so many different directions.

It appears that my thoughts today about producing Hellions instead of tanks against the Zerg is a good strategy. Plenty of places online say it's a great way to deal with those pesky Zerglings.

Did you play the first Star Craft?

It's basically just more of that, with a sprinkle of ZOMFG.

Most BEEXers are shit at the Multiplayer so jump in now, before we start learning. :)

Yeah, the games I'm playing are in the practice league.

Last night was another long tit for tat battle, ultimately I was the tit in tatters.

At least now I'm realising what I should have done and how to improve the next time.
