I have this now!
IN THE FORTY FIRST MILLENIUM, THERE IS ONLY WAR... AND A TEDIOUS PATCHING PROCESS.
Seriously, it was a fucking
cock to get running. From a fresh Windows 7 install:
- Put CD in
- Install Steam (5min)
- Reset Steam password (15min, but mostly my fault)
- Let Steam install game (30min!)
- Let Steam patch game (10min)
- Wait for Steam to finish
- Notice Steam seems to be stuck in a loop
- Reboot
- Start game, sign into Games for Windows Live
- Accept mandatory Live update
- Go to cook tea. Come back to find PC back on desktop. Load game.
- Accept mandatory Live update
- Sign in! Woo! Exchange message with Kalmar.
- Play game!
I wasn't giving it my full attention but this process took over two hours from end to end.
It seems good, but I am finding it a bit overwhelming so far. Two missions and an hour in and I'm already balancing cover, map layout, four types of unit, and a half-dozen unit special abilities. And by "balancing" I mean "not using correctly". But! Co-op throughout! Yay!
Also, it doesn't run that well on my Macbook Pro. I ran the performance checker and even at 1280x800 it turned a whole bunch of stuff down to Low/Medium. Still, if some complicated scams work out, I might be getting a badass PC soon.
