.

Then we have the 6 month break till the final 10 or so episodes, which is thanks to the writers strike. But it's a perfect place to have the hiatus.

I don't like it "as much as everyone else".

Episodes 5-8 of series 4 have been gold, mind.

Wasnt Anders-bot able to fight one of the 6's(the one who picked a fight with one of the ex-caprica resistance fighters) hand to hand on the baseship? you'd need super strength etc to do that..
Anyway
I did like the ending but :
Sorched earth? ruined civilization?,
I was expecting a couple of apes to ride up on horseback in that last shot.

Also given the shows late religous bent if the 5th cylon turned out to be jesus or something I wouldnt be suprised...;)

Yeah, they've reached earth and now it appears to be destroyed. What's that about? How are they going to advance the plot from here? If the 5th isn't in the fleet then I suppose they'll have to find some 'survivors' on earth, and one of them will be the 5th, I suppose. More explanation required.

Within the spoiler is the youtube trailer for Caprica, the spin off prequel for BSG. So viewer beware and all that...

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!

Though It does seem to imply something about where the skin jobs came from.

I hope this doesn't come out before BSG is finished. I want it to be a complete story that ends.... Not sure what to think of this... It just seems really limited about what it can actually be about... or limit what BSG can be about...

What are the best ways to catch up with season four of BSG? I just this last week finished watching my DVD box set up to the end of season three.

Resurrecting the Series 4 thread as this has more predictions about what we all thought was going to happen and in just 50 odd hours our predictions will start to stand or fall!

BE DAMN CAREFUL IF YOU AREN'T UP TO DATE (Half way through series 4) AS THIS THREAD WILL BE SPOILER CENTRAL - LIKE MASSIVELY MASSIVELY SPOILERY

Apparently spoilers are starting to leak about what is going to happen (even though, it was never really meant to be a 6 month cliff hanger).

So I should warn you to avoid aint it cool news.

I mean I would normally say that anyway, but still.

This is why I'm tempted to enter the evil world of 'borrowing', or ip spoofing. Because god damn it, the internet doesn't account for broadcast zones. At least it's only 4 days or so, but in a way 6 months was better because it gave you time to forget any spoilers you tumbled across.

Buying the DVDs anyhow.

I know I'm the only person posting in this thread like a mentalist, but I've just had an idea that sounds good to my tired mind, so I thought I would timestamp before the next episode (which should be about first thing tomorrow). I had a thought about an explanation for Starbuck

Maybe the surgery the cylons did way back wasn't to steal an ovary, but to give her the same back up power as the cylons. What with the cylons being indistinguishable from humans then it could be feasible to do. Maybe the one who loved her, did it because he didn't want her to leave him when she died.

Then when she died the nearest hub pulled her out, and made her a new body. And the nearest hub was one still working on earth. Maybe some AI (fifth cylon, the one god, elvis) or something built her a replacement ship as well. And sent her off to get the others. It didn't explain things to her so that the humans and cylons would need to work together to make it back.

Haven't seen show yet obv.

Battlestar Galatica hey? I quite liked it to start off with but it got increasingly dull towards the end and the quasi religous nonsense really pissed me off. Anyway this is something from Gregg Easterbrook, the TMQ (this will mean something to NFL fans) a professor of Theology and Economics (and probably one of the best sports writers around).

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
As the show winds down, increasingly the Cylons themselves make no sense. At the beginning of the series, we were told that 40 years prior the Cylons were robot servants of humanity; then they became self-aware and rebelled; then they remade themselves in human form. Now the Cylons constantly refer to being prisoners of their "programming," but if they made themselves, who programmed them? In the first and second seasons, the Cylons regularly saw one of the seemingly human characters revealed in the 2008 cliffhanger to be a Cylon, and never recognized him, though previously we've been told all Cylons recognize each other telepathically. And all through last season, viewers were asked to believe the Cylons can build faster-than-light starcruisers and immortality technology (see below), yet are not able to remember what five of their own 12 models look like. How could the Cylons have existed less than 40 years, yet already lost all knowledge of their own origin?

A central plot element of recent episodes was a raid to destroy the Cylons' resurrection system. It seems the sinister Cylons built a gigantic spaceship which houses devices that confer biological immortality -- whenever a cyborg dies, his or her memories and personality are reborn in a new adult body aboard the ship. Galactica found the immortality ship and blew it up; since then, we are told, the nature of Cylon existence has fundamentally transformed, because the Cylons are now mortal and must come to terms with mortality. Won't the Cylons use their seemingly unlimited super-technology to build a new resurrection ship? Don't tell me they discovered the secret of immortality and then lost the plans!

Oh and he likes BSG.

Whelp, just seen the episode. I won't be talking about things that need spoiler tagging until someone else comes along and confirms that they've also seen it. But it was very, very good. My favourite line, purely for the delivery was:

"I don't frakking know!"

Some shocking moments in there. Some excellent Final Five bits and toppo Tigh fun as usual. A real sense of pain and horror and disbelief and despair, as usual - but with just enough humanity to keep it within toleration. 5/5 basically with no discernable flaws.

DEE!! NO!!

I also loved "FRAK EARTH" on the wall.

Though what to be she wakes up Starbuck style? Be a bit of a turn about if the humans get rezzin' abilities after killing of the ability for cylons to do so. She could also meet Xena Warrior Princess if she stays behind like she said she would.

So are we all cylons then?

Dee was heartbreaking wasn't she? Chillingly plausible though. Props to the Tigh, Adama scene as well, one we knew would be awesome from moment 1. I was worried at Tigh's Reginald Perrin moment at the end, but am relieved that he's certain to come back to the beach armed with this new information. But yeah - the book-burning, 'Frak Earth', Kara quite literally 'finding herself' and best of all the creepy Final Five flashbacks all made it an episode worth waiting for. I just hope Tigh survives and there's a happy ending, but sometimes I worry that's not going to happen. Death of Callie still remains the harshest moment.

Also - I was just thinking how curious it is that the Basestars in the end proved to be quite a bit weaker than Battlestars. They lack the armour and ship-to-ship weapons, relying almost too heavily on overwhelming raider mass instead. Seems they only work in surprise attacks or superior numbers. This is probably why the Cylons monkeyed around with a cunning plan rather than a straight-up fight, they knew that their designs couldn't take on Battlestars. But in the first series and miniseries, and even the second to a degree, you think, "Oooh! Basestars! Shit - they're huge and scary! Adama keep away!" Even when it's just one or two or one. The Colonials themselves, overawed and shocked by the um - shock and awe of the Cylon assault, don't know that their own kick ass bucket is betterer. They hold their own in the mini, but they could conceivably have taken one of those Basestars down if they weren't hampered by protecting the fleet.

Also, I think they changed the Basestar model too, didn't they? I'm sure that before season 3 they looked bigger and more menacing.

Gosh, that was a bit nerdy of me. Sorry. Also, Galactica is currently lacking a rather cute woman who isn't damaged good and liable to do something dark, haunting and crazy. Could we have some candidates to fill this highly demanding but desirable role?

Some good interviews here with show's writers and directors that clarify and explain much of the stuff in the episode, without spoilering future ones:

http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com ... -dee-.html

Lots more stuff here dating far back, including embedded trailer for Caprica.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtra ... index.html

Dee speaks:

http://scifiwire.com/2009/01/dualla-spe ... pisode.php

Lickle bit on Caprica:

http://www.variety.com/article/VR111799 ... =3521&cs=1

And the special effects guy talks:

#more">http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtra ... .html#more

All of them a bit spoilery on the episode just aired, "Sometimes A Great Notion", but there you go.

Fucking useless cungting sky+ box. Set two things to record this evening, BSG would have been one of them and I got this, Clash message on one of them when it was the only thing recording and a channel error on Sky1.

Right I'm ditching Sky in it's entirety and I'm going freeview. I need to know good boxes for freeview pvr and a decent replacement for internet.

Suggestions?

Mr Dirk Benedict on the New BSG and the New Starbuck is amazing reading

Quote:
Starbuck would go the way of most men in today’s society. Starbuck would become “Stardoe.” What the Suits of yesteryear had been incapable of doing to Starbuck 25 years ago was accomplished quicker than you can say orchiectomy. Much quicker, as in, “Frak! Gonads Gone!”
And the word went out to all the Suits in all the smoke-free offices throughout the land of Un-imagination, “Starbuck is dead. Long live Stardoe!”
I’m not sure if a cigar in the mouth of Stardoe resonates in the same way it did in the mouth of Starbuck. Perhaps. Perhaps it “resonates” more. Perhaps that’s the point. I’m not sure. What I am sure of is this…
Women are from Venus. Men are from Mars. Hamlet does not scan as Hamletta. Nor does Hans Solo as Hans Sally. Faceman is not the same as Facewoman. Nor does a Stardoe a Starbuck make. Men hand out cigars. Women “hand out” babies. And thus the world for thousands of years has gone’ round.

Women. Hand out. Babies.

EDIT: I've never read such annoyance over the fact that they decided to a) make a more complex show without clearly defined good and evil and b) that any man playing starbuck would have just been imitating him - so they changed the character. Woe is Benedict.

That's sort of been my only objection to the whole series though - it's really not anything like Battlestar Galactica, so why did they make Battlestar Galactica?

I'm guessing because if you walked in saying "we want to make a show about abortion, suicide bombers, iraq and it's going to have a really complex morality" the suits (as benedict puts it) would have told you to fuck off. But calling it BSG got it made.

Some stuff has been commissioned for after the series.
Spoilered for the sake of it - but really not needed.
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
19/08/08 - A two-hour television movie will air sometime after the series finale. It will be based
on the perspectives of two cylon agents before the attack on the 12 colonies and hence the
events will take place before the mini-series from 2003.

08/12/08 - Caprica is confirmed to be receiving a full season of 20 episodes ("including" the two
hour pilot - not sure if that means 20+2 or 18+2) to be filmed in '09 for a premiere of early '10.
- stolen from PA.

Two new trailers released from the standalone Freespace 2 heavy-duty mod 'Diaspora', which is a total conversion for BSG. It looks pretty damn fine.

Yes, but now we know

where she's been!

They are clearly grinding this ending out - and that's fine by me. The wife is watching season one at the moment, and I'm watching many with her. Fun to see it both ends, she'll be caught up by the finale at this rate!

God that was fucking unbelievable!

Jesus christ, they've really ramped it up to eleven. That's just... mental. I mean it's been clearly brewing but you just don't expect it to be so... can't wait for next Saturday. Dr. Who wishes it was this compelling. This show is brutal and Starbuck sat at that table was horny as all fuck. Magnigicent stuff, Galactica is still better than any cinematic action thriller for a long time.

Earth's shit. Oh well. Lets just carry on yeah! Hug hug!

But BSG really shows the fallout for all the decisions made.

Wonderful, wonderful stuff.

I was a big fan of the old Battlestar Galactica in my youth but I have missed this out from my US downloading schedule.

Is it wise to start from series 1 or could I jump in at the start of series 4 without being lost?

NO! Massive spoilers and hugely reduced emotional impact. You need to watch it all through.

OK I will have to put some effort into finding series 1 then. Cheers.

Also, don't go into it with any expectation of it being anything like the original series. That's what made me not like it until about Series 4.

There is a cheap DVD box set of seasons 1-3 I bought in Zavvi a few months back for £30.

Plenty of torrents of everything so far. TPB and Demonoid. Then get the complete works box set for Xmas this year. You need the mini series first.

There is an awful lot of 'filler' episodes in the previous seasons (much like the second episode of the second half of the fourth season). Personally I recommend the fifteen minute series 1-4 recap on the sci fi channel website if you can't face the prospect of 'buying' three and a half series.

While I've enjoyed the stuff I've seen of BSG (although the New Caprica stuff got tiresome towards the end), I just can't raise much sympathy towards many of the characters or indeed the fate of the human race. Not sure how they're going to tie this all up but I suspect by the end...

We'll find out that everybody is a cylon or cylon cross breed

Good lord. THIS. *Shakes head in disbelief*

Why not splurge some money friends? It's as if Clive Sinclair designed the Robin Reliant.
