And John Ritter, of "being funny" fame. Also RIP.

I could always... watch it. Then I'd be cured!

(I only watched The Exorcist last year)

Absolute rubbish compared with the book, from what I remember.

The book is rubbish compared to Steven King's thoughts, from what I remember.

Is that the one that ends with the 12 year old girl getting gangbanged?

Yes. It's... not good.

By his own admission Stephen King was routinely out of his fucking tree on drugs and alcohol when he wrote a lot of his books.

IIRC he said of Pet Sematary he was amazed it got published because it so was brutally nasty and out there.

I was 12 when I read it so didn't think of it much, but yeah, that doesn't sound great now. :(

The new movie is written by Cary Fukanaga, director of season one of true detective, he was supposed to direct it to, but for some reason they owe parted ways.

Aye, the 2ewan scenes were a bit jarring and immersion damaging but the film wasn't that intense anyway so I didn't mind. One bit was were his character sees a motorcycle for the first time and Ewan turns to camera and says I don't know what that was, but I want one *patented MacGregor smile with tooth glint*. Too cheesy for me that bit but otherwise good fun.

I am still grumpy about The Island being made, because they ripped large chunks of it from 'Spares', which is an excellent book, and made it into a far less good film than they would have done had they just filmed a movie of 'Spares'.

And they reused a load of special effects shots from The Island in the first Transformers movie

Hmm, no, that's not the film I was thinking of. It was a secret island and some guy gave him a map to the place while he was travelling.

Watched 'The Illusionist' yesterday. Wasn't bad, but felt like a more predictable 'Prestige'. Was a bit too long too, but I find that with most films these days.

I've watched some filums:

It Stains The Sand Red, was first. A dark comedy about a woman chased across a desert pursued by a solitary zombie. It's quite fun but isn't going to set the world on fire. The last 15 minutes are piss pants poor but if you turn it off then you'll think it was pretty good.

Then The Legend of Tarzan. For once I would like to watch a film that Samuel L Jackson is not shoehorned into. He's entirely disposable and I'm not sure what his role is outside of getting Tarzan to go to the jungle in the first 5 minutes. Anyway, as you can probably expect from watching a trailer it's just a fucking disposable CGI-fest with little redeeming quality. Tarzan doesn't even use his Tarzan powers until the last 10 minutes. Tch. And Jane is a fucking irritating character who I thought was played by the slaggy woman out of My Name is Earl, but isn't. You'll swear it's her though and wonder why she's not shagging everything and effing and blinding. It was quite distracting.

So there you go, one alright film and one trash.

I watched Don't Breathe last night and fucking hell, it's brutal and tense as shit. Three young burglars break into the house of a blind army vet for the cash he's hoarding thinking it'll be an easy score and within minutes it goes totally fucking tits up. It just doesn't let up from start to finish and is endlessly inventive in the ways it drops the terrified robbers into fucked up situations just when you think they're finally free and clear. Very good stuff.

Ooohhh splendid call, I liked the sound of it from your description so watched it as tonight's screentime entertainment.

Everything you said, basically.

It's very much a home invasion genre piece in a lot of ways but done with enough wit and invention, and a wicked sense of truly relentless peril, that you'll forgive it the elements of cliche.

835/1000

Just one thing though:

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
When Alex and Rocky were chased upstairs and into the bedroom by the dog (with the blind guy following) they quickly barricaded the door with the wardrobe, and then did an appraisal of all the windows in the room, establishing that all of them had fixed bars on the outside so weren't a possible escape route. Rocky then started climbing through the air vent in the room as the door was battered down by the blind dude and the dog ran in. In the scuffle that followed Alex fell against and then out of a window and onto the kitchen roof below.

How did he fall straight through the window if all of them were barred?
