Looks relevant to at least some of our interests. They are doing a Minecraft and selling early access cheap; a £5 donation gets you access to the first demo at the end of April.

I am interested, very interested.

However listing stuff you want the game to contain, is very different from the game actually containing it...

Words mean nothing to me. On the strength of the video, I'd say it looks boring. Very boring.

I want to know what happened to that game that Grim... was on about a while back, where everything was made of, um, bitmaps or some such computer building block thing.

No, not that. It looked like a shooter with this funky look to it where everything was made of, um, megatextured bitframes...

I'm so glad you posted this, Gaywood — I've been waiting at least twelve days for someone to start a thread.

So... I've had a quick go on the pre-alpha-alpha this morning.

It's pretty good, looks great, and certainly gets the heart pumping when you have to step outside for the first time! You start off in a house that is basically empty, you are hungry and you need to find some food...
Control wise it is very fiddly at the moment, it's the typical WSAD to run about and mouse click to interact, but there isn't enough feedback on the mouseclicks to really register if you are trying to do something that doesn't work, or just clicking in slightly the wrong place. This isn't helped by the game being very buggy at the moment (as expected).

It also needs some fine tuning in terms of how to start and what to do! I only played for a short while, but could find nothing in terms of a weapon to use, and couldn't work out how to feed myself. I know i'm hungry, as the icon tells me so. I found a cooking pot, a can of soup and a can opener, I used the crafting menu to combine them and I now have a pot full of cold soup. No idea what to do with it. I can;t seem to find a way to put it on a stove and cook it, nor can I find a way to eat it cold. I also have an apple with no way of eating that. I'm sure there is a way, but not one that is obvious in the slightest...

All in all, atmosphere wise i'm very impressed, it's scary to go outside, the graphical style works well, the music is great. It needs a lot of gameplay work though...

Aye, this is a bit brilliant. It's obviously alpha, but they are A) Responding to people's feedback and B) Developing really quickly.

So many of the small updates are stuff that I thought "I wish I could do X".

Ouch. These guys have had a very soft line on piracy, on the basis that they think the raised awareness is worthwhile.

However, pirates have put together a version of their client that auto-downloads a new version when the game is updated - and these guys are using a 'pay-per-download' cloud service to host their data. What this means is that piracy is in this case actually costing them real money. Ouchie.

These guys are now on Steam. Haven't played it in ages, but i've managed to transfer my pre-alpha licence across to Steam with no problem, so i'll give it another go :) Looks to have advanced a huge amount in the past couple of years!
