More detail? Ok. It's clearly not one of the best films ever made, but looking at it as a purely visual creation disqualifies it from being one of the worst.

Yeah, I don't buy that. You can have the best CGI in the world and still be a terrible example of a film because a decent film requires more than just looking good. If you're looking at it as a purely visual creation then you're not watching a film, you're reviewing the effects team's CV.

Fair enough. We're allowed to enjoy different things, man.

But it still looks good. The worst film would surely be a rubbish film that also looks bad.

But we're still also allowed to talk about those thing though, right?

The worst film probably would be. As I didn't label this the worst film ever made then I'm not sure what we're disagreeing about?
"One of the worst films you've ever seen" suggests that you don't hold it in that high regard, certainly.

You should do the thing that I did! It was horrible. Hang on, I'll find it.

You want me to defend a film that you've already described as "one of the worst" you've ever seen?

Nah
Oh, you were involved. I always think you've been around for less time than you have :/
So many people in that thread who clearly have not watched Southland Tales.

That's totally true, but I'm not saying it's the worst film ever so the fact it has some redeeming qualities (i.e. it doesn't look completely awful) isn't inconsistent with what I've said is all I meant there.

Well, no? More just pointing out that all I'd done was put forward an opinion on a film and never done anything like denying that "we're allowed to like different things".

I think I've only watched five of the films in that list. I'm going to consider that some sort of victory.

Cool.
Everyone who ever speaks about watching Southland Tales sounds like a veteran of some horrific war - a sense of bafflement at how something so awful could have been allowed to occur, a sort of flinty pride at having endured such terror, and a determination that it must never be allowed to happen again.

Yeah, WTFF? Expendables came out in 2010!
I watched Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets this evening, from reports I expected it to be utter trash, but it was actually quite enjoyable! It wasn't that much worse than The Fifth Element truth be told, if the 2 main characters could actually act, it would have been just as good.
Fake Keanu was terrible, Eyebrows McGee was slightly better, but that might just be because she is prettier to look at, so I ignored what she was saying a lot of the time.
682 bananas.
I fully accept that part of my bias is due to the amount of people saying it is utter dogshit, that when it turned out to be watchable I was pleasantly surprised.

Also, I think The Fifth Element is basically "ok" and see Valerian measured by the same yard stick.
I have recently seen articles saying Southland Tales is unappreciated genius.
Fucking millenials
Is Southland Tales the one with the dinosaur fucking a car?

No wonder they went extinct.
I misremembered. It's a car fucking a car. Don't watch this at work

Challenge accepted!
Just don't watch it
This reminded me that there's an entire subreddit dedicated to dragons fucking cars.

I think that's where my mind went :DD

There is also the fuckswithducks dude, who on first glance seems like a novelty account that posts in AMAs etc..., but no, he really really likes rubber ducks...
Chances are if you have ever seen any porn that features rubber ducks, he has personally commissioned it :D
Are the ducks in a starring role?

Jon Ronson has an excellent podcast on the rise of Pornhub and the consequential creation of the bespoke porn industry:

Butterfly Effect

Good question, i've never gone down that rabbit hole, as I generally only use reddit while at work! :D
There's also r/watchitforthecat, which is dedicated to porn pictures or clips which have cats incidentally in the frame.

It's fucking awful. Genuinely one of the worst films I've ever seen and I spent a chunk of it's runtime being embarrassed on behalf of the entire cast and crew.

I watched this today with my 15 year old son and we both really enjoyed it. I find it really hard to imagine someone thinking it's on of the worst films they've ever seen! You must have seen some amazing films and hardly any duffers!

Malc joins the Island of Correct. It is a great film, it bounces about without a care in the world and there's loads of fun going on all the time and the book wasn't great but this is by the by, not every frog you kiss turns into aspirin so I really liked the indentured goons and the bad guy was Suitably Bad and like fuck it was never gou g to be Days of Thunder, was it?
We saw the Shape of Water in a screen that must have only held about 70 people and only cost £3.50 per ticket! It was a bit weird but a good film. Bill Bull does it again!
I watched Porco Rosso (one of them Studio Ghibli cartoons init) and it was merely alright. I was mildly entertained but it’d be pretty low on my list of Ghibli films to-watch.

Film 4 has been playing a load of them at around 3pm on a weekday so have a look and set your recording box to record. You’ve missed Grave of the Fireflys and Spirited Away sadly.
Just remembered that Film 4 is doing a companion podcast about them too. Clicky linky:-

The guys who are doing it aren’t doing too bad a job either and there’s some nice facts and critique about the films too.
The Vision family went to see the Incredibles 2 this afternoon and we all came away thinking it was excellent! I really enjoyed it and would recommend anyone to go and see it. It's brilliant.

We really enjoyed it.

Mrs. W and I watched 'The Lady Vanishes' on the telly t'other day (the 1979 version with Elliot Gould and Cybill Shepherd).

It was absolute rubbish in every respect.
I've watched Princess Mononoke again cause I couldn't remember it much. It's got an interesting western gestation cause Disney wanted the rights to the home video release of the Studio Ghibli stuff in America so Ghibli says ok but you've got to give a big release to our next film. Disney thinks that they're getting another kids film like My Neighbour Totoro then Ghibli bust out this 2 hour 13 minute feature length which features arms being shot off, people decapitated and general gross stuff with a more mature theme of man vs nature. Disney get cold feet so they pass it onto their subsidiary Miramax who have Harvey "Wank into a pot plant" Weinstein on it. At the time they were known for cutting films for their audience so, as the story goes, Ghibli sends them the copy of Princess Mononoke with a sword and a note that says "No cuts".

Anyway, the film is great. I didn't realise that this film was one of those that put Ghibli on the map for western audiences despite not doing well at the box office stateside. It's a great film but is almost too anime-ish for a Studio Ghibli film. I liked the themes which kinda, in my mind, mirror those in Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. It could almost be a prequel of sorts. In Princess Mononoke humans are trying to destroy nature (and each other) and in Nausicaa man has successfully smashed the earth to bits. It's a long film but the time passes by quickly without much in the way of padding. The animation is typically fantastic and, apparently, this was the first film where Ghibli involved computer graphics into their laborious animation process. It doesn't feel much like a kids film and this feels more like it's aimed at the teen demographic. I enjoyed it still despite being a saggy old arsehole. The themes of man vs nature is relevant today as it was back in the nineties when this was released and I imagine that, going forward, it will remain relevant as we continue to destroy this big ball of earth and fire until we're all dead. If the terrorists don't get us first of course.
Get's watched regularly at our house still, along with Spirited Away, My Neighbour Totoro and Ponyo. We've lots of the other Ghibli stuff too on DVD but they never get a look in over those ones.

Enjoy them each time I watch them.
Mrs Hearthly and Jnr love the Ghibli films, Ponyo is one of their favourites.

I've never seen one.
I think Princess Mononoke is maybe the best Ghibli movie.

Although catch me on another day and there's probably five or so that could be their best.

Edit: Nausica, Laputa and Princess Kaguya are my other favourites.
