Fallout 76

So, an announcement about some kind of 'new' Fallout game is likely to drop shortly:

Initially my money was on a remaster of FO3 or NV; mostly because it's not been that long (relatively) since FO4 and you'd expect a new TES game to come first. However I notice the writer of that linked article says, "but from what we’ve heard, this is a new game, one that takes the series in a brand new direction" so maybe not. There are some theories about a full game version of the Fallout Shelter mobile game which would certainly be a 'new direction' so let's hope to god it's not something like that. I genuinely don't see this being a new actual proper Fallout game so I'm expecting to be disappointed here.
I'm always super excited for a new Fallout, but I have real ' new direction' concerns.

Wild card: Fallout 3 VR (for which I would be Day Fucking One Mofos.)
Fallout Tactics!

...I maybe the only person who loved FOT.
FO3 Remastered would be good in a way because people who've never played it--and who would potentially be put off by dodgy graphics of the original--could get a chance to experience it. Personally I'm not sure if I'd bother because it's the kind of game I don't tend to play twice despite how much I adored it. FO3 VR would definitely be a better fit than Skyrim VR but again I'm not sure it would be enough to suck me back in, and I'm not even sure I want to spend that amount of time with a VR headset on.

Tactics was pretty good. Brotherhood of Steel, on the other hand...
Anyway, here's something actually relevant to the thread. A teaser for the new game, called 'Fallout 76' has gone up and it says absolutely nothing; though something about it doesn't scream "proper Fallout game" to me:

Hype. Hype never changes.
It will be you rampaging around the wasteland with a nuclear afro in a funky starsky and hutch car.

The date on the computer in that trailer is 2102.

By comparison, the war takes place in 2077. The first Fallout is set in 2161/2, Fallout 2 is 2141, Fallout 3 is 2277, New Vegas is 2281, and Fallout 4 is 2287. So this is a very different timeline, one where it sounds like you can't hope to leave the Vault. I think it sounds more like a Fallout-Shelter-me-do than one of the traditional FPS RPGs we know and love.

Although:

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Vault_76

"The Vault-Tec terminal in the Citadel lists Vault 76 as a "control" vault, with 500 occupants. The vault was designed to open 20 years after a nuclear war, and was among the seventeen known control vaults, meaning that it was used as a baseline to compare to experimental vaults. It is also mentioned in one of the alien captive recorded logs (no.13) recorded by Giles Wolstencroft, a Vault-Tec official who was abducted while inspecting the vault's construction site. In Fallout 4, the newsreader in the prologue mentions Vault 76 debuting in 2076 in honor of America's tercentenary when discussing Vault-Tec's plans to expand."

That would suggest it opened in 2097, five years before the game is set.

MP fallout dorsn't appeal.
Co-op MP Fallout has all the appeal
I played Fallout 3 and 4, but missed 5-75, do you think I will be able to pick up the storyline?

I don't think The Elder Scrolls Online has been very well received. Though I admit that I haven't read up on it in enough detail to know why.
I differentiate strongly between Co-op multiplayer and MMO. Very strongly.
Side-bar: are you going to unlock the Fallout 4 thread?

Bye-bye baby, bye-bye! Nah, that’s a top tune, ya fool.

That's fair. Taking on a super mutant camp or whatever with just people you'd invited would likely be fun. Personally I worry that it would end up with co-op only quests that are locked off to single players, which would suck. Though I'm still assuming it'll be Fallout: The Sims and all this will be academic.
It's a fucking Battle Royale game, isn't it?
I loved FO3 and all the DLC but didn't finish FO4. Didn't like the base building stuff and the main game wasn't as enjoyable.

I'm interested in what 76 will be as I think it needs a big change.
It needs the humour back
I liked the weather effects in FO4.

And the dog.
It's a match 3 game set in the fallout universe.

Fo reals.

This is the most monstrous thing you have ever said, and that’s saying something.
"But Fallout 76 is in fact an online survival RPG that’s heavily inspired by games like DayZ and Rust, according to three people familiar with the project."

Allegedly.

Swiping right on that.

"The Internet famous Doctor Glyndwr, you may have seen him present in 2018 at Google's I/O, to establish credentials of his intelligence, and his bona fide influencer status on the Internet, once commented that the worst thing, no, sorry, that is wrong, the most monstrous thing MaliA has ever said was expressing doubt at a canine sidekick being a good thing in a video game. With that in mind, and will say it again, as it bears repeating, Internet savant and application process troubleshooting genius lecturer Doctor Glyndwr has said, in his opinion, the most monstrous thing MaliA thinks is animal companions are overrated, with this words ringing in yours ears, a clarion bell of considered thought, do yu really think he ever said to Mr Dave ""Look at this picture of me and a sink", your honor? THE DEFENCE RESTS"
So, this is indeed an instanced online game. If it allows private instances it could be amazing. If you have to share the world with randos, it'll be griefer central.
Yeah.
All griefers, all the time. From the videos, they also expect baddies to be loners for some reason. Expect full teams of griefers, especially as it appears you need a team to use the nukes...

I thought this was always the case too until I played Sea of Thieves. Excuse the pun, but maybe the tides are changing? Perhaps randos can work together?
The difference here is that it's encouraging base building, and PvP raiding. The two don't mix well.

And nuclear missiles.
What the fuckity?
A HUNDRED AND SEVENTY FIVE QUID!? Does it come with a blowjob?
Confirmed online only, and no NPCs at all. PVP some sort of opt-in.
I can't afford to spend a quarter of that amount on a game these days. :(

That’s still an expensive blowjob.
