I watched all three of them back-to-back, I think he's great. His stuff is a snapshot of the strange things in his head or the weird way he sees things, it's very unlike most other popular comedy I've watched. It's not observational comedy, you're not laughing because you identify with what's being said.

I also found Ali Wong Baby Cobra hilarious, she's very different to Acaster and more observational with a lot of personal stuff in there. She has a second show called Hard Knock Wife, which is also very funny.
I’m not sure if I like Humans as much as I thought I would.

Fair. It was an interesting premise wasted on really annoying characters

Q.V. Heroes and many other series that outlived their sell-by date.
The current series is very slow, ive got it series linked but only watch it if I can't find anything more pressing to do.

Side of right!
BBC 4: The NHS: a people's history

Bit of a curate's egg this one. The idea of a social history of the health service, its staff, and its patients is a good one, and the show captures the atmosphere of the times very well, with good insights on class and race issues within the service. Alex Brooker's presentation is enthusiastic, inviting, and well-pitched. It just felt a little bit slung together, and at times inadvertently contradictory as after spending a while praising the many innovations introduced by NHS staff, it lurches into a chilling report about a person being given LSD without discussing whether this was an experimental treatment (and what, if any, regulation existed) or standard of the time.

I'll carry on watching it, as it's such a key part of post-war British life it deserves a good social and oral history.
New Rich Hall special on BBC 4 tomorrow at 21:00, entitled 'Working for the American Dream'.
Couple of shows we've not mentioned here.

Mark Kermode's 'Secrets of Cinema' series on BBC 4 is brilliant. He takes a look at a specific genre in each episode and dissects its key elements, often drawing connections between films I wouldn't have noticed. It's like watching a fun A-level film studies class. Recommended.

The Internet's Famous Ed Balls has a travelogue across the US meeting fans of the President and trying to understand why people like him. 'Travels in Trumpland' ( BBC 2 ) started on Sunday, and he takes in a monster truck rally (which looks great fun), an immigration raid, a veterans' camp, and a wrestling match (including Ed Balls in a leotard). The sequences on the immigration raid and in the detention facility made for chilling television. I felt the editing at times was uneven - sometimes he lets his subjects speak at length, other times I felt it cut away before they had a chance to explain their point. That aside, it's a good look at the South and what Mr Trump means to millions of people. And as ever, I'm a sucker for the accents.

TheVision's long lost American cousin appears briefly in the wrestling sequence, which is nice. You'll see who I mean when you watch it.
Secrets of cinema is very good. I had no idea how interested I was in the history of the rom-com!

James Acaster is one of the contestants in Taskmaster series 7, and when Jem and I went to watch the recording of the series finale last week I thought he was alright, but Jem thought he was an utter dick.
I like him, but that's because he is a dick.
I rewatched the first two of his Netflix shows the other day.

He’s the best and I love him.

Wrong
If Curio likes him and Mali doesn't, it's nailed on that I will.
Anyone have any "advice" for how I can "download" Stewart Lee's new "thing" from outside the UK?

It's on the iplayer here

I tried that and it didn't work.

Bodyguard E1 on the Beeb tonight. Great start, not what I expected, plenty of tension. 9.5/10.

Half way through E2 and it’s still good but Mrs Brittas being his boss is jarring.

Yeah, thoroughly enjoyed it.
Watching the guy Martin F1 thingy instead of episode two though.

You've clearly not watched Line of Duty then. You should do that.

Yes, she is, but in some respects that's probably intentional, but I find her pretty annoying in most things (though not as much as Suranne Jones).

BENT CAHPPERS SON

Seriously, it’s maybe the best TV show I watched last year. Fix that.
Bodyguard was some excellent TV. A bit unconvinced by the final reveal, but otherwise excellent.

"Mwahaha, you thought I was a weak Muslim woman. You arrested me, and I just became more powerful than you could possibly imagine!"

And powerfully hammy acting with it.
It's by the line of duty folks remember, 5 and half episodes of great telly, finished off with 30 minutes of ludicrous shenanigans is their raison d'etre.
I didn't mind the shenanigans so much as the terrible acting.

My main issue with it all, is that we are supposed to believe she was some mastermind figure, bomb making guru. Yet at the start of the show we saw her in a panic in a toilet about to set off a bomb.
What... did she do that every wednesday morning, just hoping some off duty copper would come along to stop her, and tell her about his kids, so she could use that from whatever prison she was sent to, that she already had connections in, to be able to run it all from the inside.

"Back again Fashima? No luck? You've been doing the bomb schtick for the past 2 years."
"No luck Abdul, I got stopped by a japanese tourist, but he just thought my bomb was a fashion statement. I'll try again next week"
Yes, completely agree with that.
Yet we’re not questioning

The other bit happened later so displaced other things that annoy me from my head.

Mrs W had the same suspicion and I had my doubts too.

Generally I enjoyed it (except for scenes with Keeley in them) and the good outweighed the bad bits, but a bit like Line of Duty, you end up suspecting everyone at some stage and that does begin to grate after a while.

But the ending was as tense as the beginning and not what I expected.

Was a very strong hint in that direction
BBC 2: The Flu that killed 50 million

Interesting history of the 1918 pandemic. Good mix of modern day experts and oral history, and for once the use of actors doesn't feel patronising or crow-barred in but adds to the narrative. Perhaps one too many scenes of people coughing blood, but that's probably unavoidable.

Yep that jarred with me also.

I enjoyed on the whole, but I was doing a certain amount of doing life admin while I watched it, so I clearly didn't find it that gripping.

Regarding the bomb at the conference, I missed the reveal on that - who was the bomber and what was in the case that the assistant was carrying?
I always find it surprising how so many clearly very talented people can leave glaring obvious plot holes in things like this. The sheer amount of effort and detail that must go into the whole thing and then to have chunks of it just not making much sense, it seems weird.

Not in the case, under the stage with a pressure switch so the 'stooge' was called to take note to the HS to trigger it (her weight wasn't enough). The CRIMINAL UNDERWORLD were behind it.

Aye, that's always boggled my mind as well. I mean when making some hours long TV series it makes a tiny bit more sense, but when you watch a film that's only a couple of hours long and the core story is balls you do wonder how that's been able to happen.
