Is good fun this. This fun good is.
This is a great thread.
One of the very best.
Let's flesh this out a bit. This is an immense amount of fun, a lot more so when you have a squad.

I streamed our session tonight, here are the highlights:

Epic firefight:

Shortest round ever:

In one game we got down to the last 6 players, four of them being us. We still only ranked third somehow…

My main challenge today will be to not make dove noises at my boss.
It's a pretty good game but not without its problems. We've tried it as a squad but we hit the issue of one/two of the squad dying early on and it doesn't always make the best spectator experience. Thereafter we generally just binned the game if that happened and started another.

Beyond that there's an awful lot of rummaging around trying to find bits of gear and rucksacks and bandages, and something of a lack of action. Plus there's always the possibility that as the map closes down it'll end up that the other players happened across powerful rifles and the best scopes and will kill you from half a mile away.

We've gravitated back to BF1/BF4/GTAV as they make for a better, more 'immediate' sort of experience as a team multiplayer game, but I'm quite partial to the odd round of PUBG in solo mode.
Yeah. Maybe not your sort of game then. The rummaging around and anticipation that there could be a firefight at any moment is the best part of the game! The fact that action is few and far between just makes those encounters that much sweeter. When we took down a four-man team and only losing two of our team it was a glorious 60 seconds of action!

If members of your team are regularly dying early, you're either landing in areas too densely populated, or you're not working well enough as a team. I think it maybe happened once to us last night in 6-7 games? One game we all died in 3 mins flat, which was amusing.
In ten games, I've killed one person. With my fists.

Apparently buoyed by this, I then charged fist first at a man with a gun. This did not end well.
Forgot about this one. The last game we played last night.

Four of us versus two others on separate teams. We somehow still lose!

I think part of the issue we had is that two of us were rank amateurs (I was one of those....) and two of us were really good players.

So even though we were keeping together and working together as a unit, whenever the shit went down us two amateurs were coming off worse, and still asking questions about how to put scopes on guns and stuff like that. And once you're dead it's not like a game of CS where the next round will be along in a couple of minutes, you're talking more like 10-15 minutes.

I can definitely see the appeal of the game, but for our multiplayer hijinks I don't think it's quite the dynamic we're looking for. (The other amateur on our team was like, 'This is stupid, in Battlefield you actually start with the fucking guns', he wasn't sold on the Battle Royale concept at all.)

I have managed a 3/100 finish in solo mode though.

EDIT - And yes the skilled players on our team were guiding us down to out-of-the-way areas from the parachute jump, and we were spending time gathering resources, not leaping straight into fighting etc. But then when it came to fighting us two n00bs were basically just cannon fodder.
Ah, that's a shame. We're all pretty terrible so it works out well for us.

I much prefer this to something like CoD or BF where you die, respawn, die, respawn. Staying alive actually matters.
If PS4 players feel left out, Fortnite is similar. And free!
Amateurs and newbies should really play solo until they get into the gameplay loop. Fighting teams of people is a different kettle of fish to fighting individuals and requires a different skill set.

pretty much every source I've heard from has described it as pap, mind.

Biggest problem with this is having to hear myself speak in the replay. I pity those who have to put up with that real time.
I love your dulcet tones, David. x
When you die, can't you just quit out and join another match?
Is this the ICT thread?

Yup. And your “friends” could come out with you and join a new match.

Yes and if you're playing solo that's what you'd do, but when you're playing in a squad it's a call you have to make. With the best will in the world, spectating a couple of your mates pilfering old rucksacks off the floor of a bedroom in a random deserted house doesn't exactly confer CS levels of excitement and tension.
I still don't understand how you are dying before the end of the looting stage if you're going into low-population areas. If you're playing smart you shouldn't even see anyone else until you're nicely kitted up. Then if you die you can help be extra eyes and ears to those still around as they'll need them at endgame.
Or you can make footstep sounds into the microphone.

Just got my first solo top 10! Rank #9. I had to abandon my plans of dropping in a farmhouse when I saw two people already scavanging the roof, so ditched it nearby and found a small house. Not much there but on running north to the next one someone opened fire on me from a distance so I hid in the next house. All I had was a crowbar, a micro uzi and a pistol. Luckily I was close to the centre of the next two circles, so just hunkered down for the next 10 mins or so. No one came, but eventually the circle closed in and I had to move on.

Someone steamed past me in a buggy but either didn't see me or didn't care. I made it to the top of the next hill just inside the circle and stayed there. Still no one around that I could see. The circle moved again. I saw a little turret-style building right on the outskirts of the circle boundary and made it from there. Just ten left now. Sadly that's where my game ended as I got into a firefight with someone who was a) much better kitted out than me, and b) a much better shot than me.

So funny! Yet I still managed to kill them both and get down the hill to the end game. What happened to you? :D
They crept up the hill on me, didn’t they. Sneaky ninja.
Weird that I just underarmed that grenade into the wall.

Ian: [DEAD] Got any grenades?
Matt: Yep!
Ian: That ought to wake them up
Matt: *throws against wall* err, that won't!

:DD
Fuckkkk, just got to rank #5 in solo. Took a punt on going to a largeish town, but right on the southern tip of it. Couldn't see anyone else going down in there so spent a little time looting and then the circle was just west of my location. I found a buggy shortly after so decided as I'd probably be one of only a few players to be that far north currently I bombed right for the centre of the circle. Found a house and holed up there until there was about 12 players left. Made it to the next circle with 8 players left, but as I was just outside the next one decided to crawl my way there, but sadly someone came over the hill behind me and saw me.

Next tip: Drive away with your team mates cover.
We had some really good engagements . Stealing your fireteams cover was not of them. Guarding a staircase was also not one of them. Driving by a tooled up gang of hoods was also not one of them. The entire squad falling off a cliff, individually, like Lemmings, was not one of them. Maybe we didn’t have any good engagements.

Anus, there was someone who was above us, and no doubt had the same problem.
I've been torn between 'must try this thing' and 'this thing will absolutely drive me up the wall' on this Plunkbat thing. It's a'the IDEA of this game totally appeals to me, but I will almost certainly hate the reality' thing.

Mind you, I doubt my PC will run it...
I think you'd probably like it.
It's basically a glorified game of hide and seek. With naked men.
I played Fortnite the other day - it was all right.
Got my solo chicken dinner on Erangen!

Sadly I didn't stream it, but here's the replay of the last four minutes when it got down to the final ten.
The full chicken dinner - from my potna’s perspective.

I can’t believe Xbox doesn’t record voice chat. What a pathetic bag of shit. It’s amazing they ain’t sorted this shit out.

Yep, this kind of thing is still pretty rare despite having put over 50 hours into this game so far.
