Nailed it.
Doom 3 had cutscenes

Most games have cutscenes. If you don't want doom to have a story, feel free to skip them.

2019 Dave: Apparently Dark Souls 4 has cutscenes. Sacrilege!

Dark Souls has always had cutscenes. Every Soulsborne has had cutscenes.

Then that sounds shit. Stupid handholdy game series.
I might get this today or tomorrow now. The review I read seems positive and seem to put the single player at about 10 hours and with multiplayer too it could be fun. Is it fun? Tell me it's fun!
Just got this, downloading now. Will be nice to give the Titan X something to do :)

Cole and play GTA5 with us, dick.
This just wasn't clicking for me but then I realised I was playing it as a normal shooter...when I started running round like a lunatic shotgunning people and running up to rip their arms off it finally made sense to me. Enjoying so far (The chainsaw is splendid).
Heh, once upon a time, that was the normal.

The Doom multiplayer beta on the PS4 didn't do anything for me. Just too fast for a controller. I suppose it could be a matter of getting used to it.
It's great fun. I think I set it a little too dark though as I'm having trouble seeing where I am going. Mind you, sun is bright atm think I will wait until later. As mentioned the chainsaw is great as are the finish moves :)
Yeah, very entertaining so far this. It's fast and frantic but it also forces you to strategise a bit. Weapon upgrades are really cool too, actually meaningful and fun. Need to go back and hoover up some secrets, though. They aren't quite as easy to spot as they were in old Doom. Cut scenes continue to not be a problem.

I am very much looking forward to this tonight.
I quite like the look of this. Was never a fan of the original Doom games, even at the time when they were shiny and new - but this latest one looks like it could be fun. (And Doom 3 I didn't care for at all.)

If the multiplayer is up to scratch and could thus get onto the Saturday night with the chaps rota, we may have a deal.

I'll wait for the Eurogamer review to land though.
Crikey. This is fast paced. Shotgun needs a little more BOOM! I played 20 minutes them the battery on the controller ran out as MrsA left it on all day.

It's super fast paced circle strafe excellent action. I like what i have seen so far. A lot.

Multi is where it lacks apparently. I will try it this weekend coming and let you know.

The only thing this game lacks for me is suspense. Doom 3 was really good at that. This one is far more pacy like the original.

Mal - you upgrade your guns as you go mate :)
I was off poorly yesterday (gland infection - have to go to A&E if I start dribbling - awesome) so I played the shit out of this.

It is glorious. I agree the shotgun is a bit too weedy but then EXPLODASHELLS and the whole melee thing and secrets and the speed and that first time you find a berserker power up.

I miss Owen - He would have said good words about this I am sure.
I think I've read all I need to read about this...

Someone! Fetch me my wallet!
Man, I'm broke... This is so getting bought when I have money.
I've ordered it to arrive this evening via the magic of Amazon... I say magic... but I actually mean the fact that I'm paying through the nose for Prime which I barely use.
You all should have had some faith and ordered it for £32 when I said and got it two days before release. Anyway let this be a lesson and maybe next time you'll listen to me.
It's £30.86 on Amazon for PC DVD, which will just be a Steam code anyway.
Rock Paper Shotgun like the single player, a lot.

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2016/0 ... review-pc/

£39.99 on Steam when I last looked. Perhaps I'll kick this off when I get home.

Or $40.15 for a key from that G2A.COM place which worries me a bit because I don't know how it works and don't trust it. That's £27.74p though.
I'll be yoinking this before DS3 I think.
It's a proper man's game this. A game filled with 10 pints of export lager, a couple of lines of cheap coke and a fucking kebab for afterwards. It's Blackpool on a stag weekend , it's Milwall away. It's Magaluf when you're 18 and all your mates have pulled. It's punching the demons back to hell, shouting "'av it large!" And sitting back for the bants to roll in. No cover, no hiding, no excuses.
Not bants, no. Never "bants".
markg wrote:

He's so full of bants, the Archbishop of Banterbury, if you will.
I've bought two games in the last few weeks and in fact from done with either but man oh man do I want this.

CDkeys are the cheapest at £26 atm and I got the multiplayer add on too as a separate code. Amazon want £30 for the hard copy but I got impatient.

Bit-tech review up.

It's great :D there's definitely some of the Fallout series' humour in there.

It's very refreshing to play too. You have to think about how you are going to steam in and rip off arms and legs for example. The demons with the shields are assholes ! I got to one part where there was a tight corridor and I died loads. Had to really think about strategy so it's not all completely mindless. In the end I hid behind a corner, lured them out then ran around the side and gave them what for.

Just like Need For Speed I had no expectations for this game at all and I am really pleasantly surprised. That's two in one year.
When you die in lava..

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
The T2 thumbs up thing is superb

It's small touches like that that mean you can see the care and attention that has gone into it.

I watched a gif of that as well, despite having no intention of ever playing this game. I love the passion that's clearly gone into it though.

Baymax!
Downloading now :)
Mmm. Hoping it improves, as initial impressions aren't the best.

Or at least, I'm hoping I can retire the pathetic pistol soon.
The only use for the guns is to stagger the monsters so you can glory kill them. It's awesome. The n00bs will hate this as you are constantly low on health and sniping probably doesn't exist. LoveD the 20 mins I had this morning.
Also: the splash screens at the beginning are hellish slow. As in <1FPS.

Very much what he said.

To the extent that in the middle of a hellish firefight you will chip away at a Hell Knight delicately with a surgeon's skill so that you can make him glow then climb on some boxes so that you can jump on him to kerb stomp the fuck out of him for a challenge that gives you weapon points.

That doesn't sound like Doom should be, but somehow it really is.

It did that to me first time. After that it was ok.

Not been overwhelmed by this so far, it looks nice though.

I'm rather of the opinion that that should be an option, not a requirement.

It's all about chaining your attacks. In a way it has that Outrun C2C feel about it, where when you nail it you get a real feeling of accomplishment.

It's woven into the combat in such a way that it feels natural and instinctive and is a great balance between the standard recharging health bar (which they couldn't do because of the speed of everything and the lack of cover and the acrobatics of the imps) and health packs.

If you don't like that then I'm not sure you'll enjoy it :(

It's a brilliant thing. Keeps you going forward.

It's becoming a disaster if I just flat out kill someone without performing a glory kill now.

The Super Shotgun is truly a weapon of sweet, sweet dichotomy. Splatterage vs Glory kills.
I'm really enjoying it too although I can't help but be slightly concerned that it's all going to build to some incredibly frustrating encounters which combined with the aforementioned quite slow loading times for a retry means that I'll run out of patience before the end. We shall see. As much as I loved them I think I idfa'd my way through the end bits of the originals (mind you that was mostly because it ground down to an almost unplayable slideshow on my 486 or whatever it was at the time).

I read that the loading times were a pain so I put it on a RAID SSD stripe lol. Doesn't take long to load now :D
