The PC Gaming Topic
Preferably weird indie shit.

Do you like gaming? Yes.

Do you like PC's? Yes.

Do you own a Mac? GETOUTTAHEARYOUFILTHYSCUMBAGS, this is the PC gaming thread. Ok, you can come in but no funny business. 'k?

So, I was thinking we could have a topic for PC games about PC games; not so you can shove any old PC gaming trash in here but perhaps an aide-memoire for cool games that other people might have forgot or want to look up.

First up, Beex's latest sensation, Bamba, shoves a load of links in your face and says PLAY THESE YOU FILTHY SOUTHERNERS.

Bamba wrote:
You really should get yourself a PC for gaming, the amount of indie nonsense that you'd love that you're missing out on is non-trivial. Here's my current list of 'to get' indie PC exclusive madness to give you an idea:

The Swapper
Out There Somewhere
Thirty Flights of Loving
Antichamber
The Bridge
Fibrillation
Luminesca
The Cat Lady
Ittle Dew
Magrunner
Gone Home
Gunpoint
Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs
MirrorMoon EP

Granted some of them are more oddity than game, but still.
Stuff I've been into over the last 12-18 months:

Octodad: Dadliest Catch
Dear Esther
Gone Home
The Typing of the Dead: Overkill
Sir, You Are Being Hunted
Antichamber
Gunpoint
The Stanley Parable
The Swapper
DEFCON
FTL: Faster than Light
To the Moon
Democracy 3
Papers, Please
Surgeon Simulator 2013
DayZ
Home
Infected: The Twin Vaccine
Of that list the only ones I've actually played since then are Ittle Dew and The Bridge. I didn't really get on with The Bridge but it's definitely a decent puzzle game and just happens to not be my cup of tea. Ittle Dew I actually played on my phone as it's out for Android and iOS and I really enjoyed it. Zelda-ish mechanics with a great visual design and excellent sense of humour.
Anyway, here's the stuff in my 'to get' list that wasn't in that original list:

Actual Sunlight http://www.actualsunlight.com/
Broken Age http://store.steampowered.com/app/232790/
Huntsman: The Orphanage http://store.steampowered.com/app/246740/
Kentucky Route Zero http://store.steampowered.com/app/231200
Lily Looking Through http://store.steampowered.com/app/250030/
NaissancE http://www.gamespot.com/reviews/naissan ... 0-6415686/
Snapshot http://www.gog.com/game/snapshot

Kentucky Route Zero and NaissanceE in particular look very interesting.
PC specific stuff I play regularly, or have played and enjoyed (not including ones already mentioned)

Euro Truck Simulator 2 (It's a lot better than it sounds!)
Assetto Corsa
Hearthstone
I know this is mainly PC 'exclusives' but remember you can also use your PC to play games like Titanfall even if Microsoft try to paint it as if you *need* to play it on Xbox One
Good thinking. I haven't really had the itch for online multiplayer for a while though (although a dabble of BF4 is always great fun).

I'd got to play Surgeon Simulator though. I played a bit at that one and only game show I ever went to (and won't stop referring to) and it was frickin awesome. Yes, I would like to open this fella's cheat cavity with a hammer.
And some random other stuff I've either played or have sitting to be played:

You can sometimes get demos on Steam so if there's something you're interested in but not sure about do check to see if a demo's available. If there is there'll be a "DOWNLOAD DEMO" button just under the main box with the screenshots and whatnot as on the Braid page. Also, once you've created a Steam account, you can add stuff to your wishlist and Steam will automatically email you if there's a price drop which is nice.

Also also, sign up to the Humble Bundle mailing list as it cannot be over-stated how excellent some of their bundles are e.g. the one that had Fez, Mark of the Ninja and Trine 2 (amongst others) for whatever price you chose to pay.
Oh, and there's this for further savings on games you might or might not be interested in:

Another thing you'll want to do is add a US address to your Amazon account.

There are a lot of ways to set things up but I think the easiest (and safest to recommend) is to go to Borderlinx : http://www.borderlinx.com/ and sign up for a free address
They will give you an address where in theory you could buy stuff from the US and they would then ship it on to the UK , if you add this address to your Amazon address book they will then allow you to buy digital items which are normally for sale in the US only , nothing is physically shipped to you you just get a key to put into Steam or Origin or wherever.

That includes US PSN digital games for whatever Amazon is selling them at (often cheaper than the US prices and *always* cheaper than the UK ones) - you can also buy US PSN $ cards to simply top up and buy items that Amazon does not sell directly but that you can buy from the US PSN store on the web or on your console and finally they will give you steam keys for stuff that they are selling which on sale items are way way cheaper than the UK and for regular items are a little cheaper.

I'd say its worth doing this for the PS4 - but not really worth it for the Vita as you cant have more than one account per memory card - and definitely worth it for the PC

On steam stuff from them if you get whatever Amazon is selling cheaply that day you get offers like this :

Payday 2 for £6.06 instead of £24.99

Lewies link to Amazon.com : http://savygamer.co.uk/2014/03/23/payday-2-pc-6-06/
Straight steam page : http://store.steampowered.com/app/218620/

Or another quick example (I know you already have this on the PS3 but just to show the offers).

Tomb Raider is currently $7 on Amazon which is about £4.20 its £14.99 in the normal steam store

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007VF ... _3_t_Mar18
http://store.steampowered.com/app/203160/

Just cause 2 is $5.25 which is about £3.20 instead of the £9.99 on Steam

Basically you've just bought yourself a way to spend more money. Enjoy your ever-growing library of Steam games you'll never get the chance to play. Ahahahahahahaha!

The number of steam games I own but will never play... It depresses me.

The vast majority of mine are leftovers I'm not interested in from bundles I bought, I've only got a few unplayed that I'm genuinely interested in which is fine with me.

Which reminds me, the other place for possible free games is the Free Stuff thread right here on Beex which is bounds to have some unclaimed Steam keys in it. From a quick glance there looks to be at least Fez and Surgeon Simulator still available.
Actually, Surgeon Simulator is gone but Fez is definitely still available for yoinking.

Nice. I think Dimrill made a thread about Kentucky once upon a time.
The one PC game I've bought recently and liked was Tower of Guns. Old school type FPS about movement and avoiding bullets while shooting back. And finding secrets in a generated world. Made by a small team and it shows in some regards. Limiting it to only one weapon on most plays is probably the most grievous problem. Don't know if it supports gamepad.

I 've died lots.
I don't expect to ever reach the end.

That aside, recently I've played I've played Gone Home (Rather meh, I thought), Dear Esther (Nice sense of place, but not overly gripping), Stanley Parable (Weird)

All rather short.

Quite a few llike that, quite a few I picked up to play later, and have never got around to (Witcher 2, Tomb Raider - although I eventually did when it got released on PS+) and even more that I got, played once or twice and didn't return to, and yet still got others in the series that I haven't played (Witcher, Ys Origins) - although much of this is due to the bastard hard first boss)
I loved Gone Home, thought Dear Esther was ok and thought Stanley Parable was brilliant.

To begin with, Goe home was bery atmospheric and interesting.

Then
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
it just became a bit too teen angsty for me

Stanley Parable I did like, but I'll stick with Weird. I think had I payed much for any of them though, I'd feel short changed.

Making you go through a boss fight before letting you play any of your actual games was always an odd decision for Steam to take, but people seem to be used to it now.
Yeah, errant bracket.

Poor nesting, for shame.

Your Gone Home spoiler tag isn't quite right either.

I think we have a lesson in why not to do two things at once. Fixed.
Stanley Parable is definitely on my list to get at some point, but the only PC indie exclusives I've played of late were Dear Esther; Papers, Please and Rogue Legacy. The latter of which is the game I seem to be getting stuck into the most at the moment - it's a very cool, though also pretty difficult Metroidvania with a cool traits system for your character.
Betrayer sounds interesting to me (and maybe you).
Tower of Guns is amazing.
British Nervoso wrote:

That does sound interesting, although the chat about the randomness of discovery and enemy behaviour predicts no small amount of frustration. Added to The List anyway.
Since your machine has arrived how about 3 random games for £2.66

Mirrors Edge for £1
http://savygamer.co.uk/2014/03/26/mirrors-edge-pc-1/

Dead Space for 83p
http://savygamer.co.uk/2014/03/26/dead-space-pc-83p/

And Burny P for 83p
http://savygamer.co.uk/2014/03/26/burno ... ox-pc-83p/
If he hasn't already played those on the consoles he's probably not arsed.
ftl. best game. play it.
British Nervoso wrote:

It does sound interesting to me. But I'm a little worried that the actual gameplay may be a bit lacking, and that the dark souls esque penalty for death may be a bit too harsh, but that's hard to judge.
Cloudbuilt is another interesting sounding indie PC game built around frantic free-running as a metaphor for recovery from physical injury. I'm actually struggling a bit from the review though to get a sense of how exactly it plays, I might YouTube it to see if that helps matter.

ETA: it would probably help if I actually included the link.

I looked at a video, and it looks an interesting if less well-polished Mirror's Edge.
Still not indie but most people will already have it

http://savygamer.co.uk/2014/03/28/the-o ... linux-3-2/

Three of your pounds for The Orange box on steam (PC / PC or PC)
Stumbled across first person puzzle adventure game Ether One on Steam which sounds like it might be worth a go. It certainly looks very pretty (the cel-shaded look of the alternate universe part of the game puts me in mind of a much less filthy version of Dishonoured's Dunwall) and this Joystiq review is very good.
Shelter is back down to £1.74 if your still looking for it : http://savygamer.co.uk/2014/03/31/shelter-pcmac-1-74-2/

Awesome work!

And I've just purchased it using the Steam App so I don't miss out this time. I see there's a sequel coming in August with a Lynx an' all.

Stanley Parable is still a tenner at the moment but I'll get it as soon as Dark Souls has been defeated.

You can buy stuff from the Steam website as well, you don't need to go to the actual Steam client to pick stuff up.

The iOS app is actually really good. You can even use chat and look at your game library as well as purchases too. Not sure if there's an Android one.

Not from work I can't.

Did I ever mention that I had to request access to a website from the IT Department that the internet firewall wouldn't let me look at? I did y'know, it was for work; some local news site reporting an accident. I wanted to see a photograph that had been taken immedately after the accident that might have been helpful.

Anyway, IT emails me a PDF of the page I referred them to.

I emailed back saying, I want access to the site, I want to examine the picture.

SO THEY EMAIL ME A PDF OF THE PICTURE FROM THE SITE.

I emailed back again saying "You're all cunts and I want to search the site for any other information" and they email back saying "What search do you want to do?"

I didn't have the will to live after that so I didn't bother responding to tell them what useless cunts they are.

There is - I'd not considered that such a thing would exist. I am trying it now.

So am I, although the fact the when you try and login it doesn't tell you which of the password, CAPTCHA or 'secret code' you got wrong is making me want to throw my phone out the fucking window.

It mentions "humanity" if you get the CAPTCHA wrong.

Hmm. When I tried logging in with what I knew to be the the correct password it just gave me a generic error so I assumed it was just crap validation but it's logged me in alright now so it could've just been me being a fat-fingered tit.

Generally it's a bit slow and ugly; I think I'd prefer to just use the website on my phone.

Obviously.

On iOS there's a section called 'Library'
Nope, not that I can find.

Does it have a side bar as thusly?
