Quote:
Ground Zeroes is a joyous tangle of toys jostling around in a well-formed sandbox, and the various side missions that sit separately from the main campaign take great pleasure in pushing you to explore and exploit them. They're a playful bunch, revelling in emergent action that unravels in often unpredictable ways. Spend eight hours dabbling with Ground Zeros' playground and it will still find so many ways to surprise you.
...
The very best thing about Ground Zeroes is how the series has cast away so many of its cinematic pretensions and fallen in love with being a video game all over again

Being late to the Playstation world, I've never played a Metal Gear game before. This is £22 on Amazon so I might take a punt. All I can remember is Sinister Agent's rant about MGS4 which put me off the series completely. This sounds like a good place to start.
I played the demo for MGS4 and didn't get on with it at all but put it down to a bad demo given that I generally really enjoy stealth games. I had it sitting in my unplayed pile for a while until I did a brutal clear-out of stuff I didn't think I'd ever get round to and that was one of the victims of the cull.
It might be just me, but a game being short is a massive selling point these days. I just cancelled my Watch Dogs preorder because I read it takes about 40 hours to complete. :S
And having now actually read that review it does sound very good, albeit by taking the majority of it's cues from the recent Splinter Cell games from that review text. That can go on my currently very short list of 'stuff to play on the PS4 whenever I pick one up'.

I'm just going with the PS3 version as I don't plan on getting a PS4 until next year now.

I'm sort of with you on that; as I tend to just play a single game until it's done I can get fatigued with it at times so shorter 'palate cleansing' games are certainly welcome. I try to alternate AAA game with an XBLA/PSN game for balance.

Far Cry 3's a good example of this, I'm really enjoying it but it goes on for bloody ever. Initially I was looking forward to finishing the main game then going back for the collectibles and the few side quests I'd left but having spent longer on it than most other games and only having just got onto the second island I'm not sure I'll want to by the end.

I'll stick it on the list and if there's no other compelling reason to get a PS4 by the time I get to it then I could grab a last-gen version, otherwise it's something to help justify the PS4 sale. Although frankly I'm kidding myself here by pretending I won't be running out to buy a PS4 as soon as Arkham Knight is released.

:)

I can wait for that seeing as I haven't played Arkham City yet. It's installed on my Windoze partition though, so it's only a matter of time...

Get to it man, it's fucking brilliant!

£19.97 from Gamestop or should be £22 in store at Tesco if you wanted to pick it up from a shop

FYI you can also pick up the MSG collection on vita (which is MG2+3) and was only around £10 last month

http://savygamer.co.uk/2014/02/05/metal ... ita-10-31/ its back to £23 but I'd expect that to go up and down with future sales (and its the type of game i think would work well on the vita with the instant 'pause' it allows)

After Uncharted and Brothers. And MGS 5: GZ. *lurches back on topic*

Brothers is one of the shortest games I've played recently even if you go back for the achievements (and you should because they're quite cool) so that shouldn't take you long.

Anyway, yes, sorry, I'll shut up now about anything that's not MGS 5: GZ related.

MGS4 was the weakest of the lot, despite surprise guinea pig ambushes. I'd say each has been progressively worse, although I played the gc version of the first.
Many would say that 3 was the best, but I missed the radar.
'Those excisions helped remind players that, for all the narrative bloat that had blighted Guns of the Patriots, beyond the cut-scenes and heavy-handed exposition Metal Gear Solid remained a video game - and an often exceptional one at that.'

True that, nice little review.

I don't know about this one though. I got in nice and cheap thanks to some little discounts from this site http://www.voucherbox.co.uk/, buuuut, tbh, not sure I would recommend it that highly to others. Let's put it this way, I'm not giving it to my brother for his birthday. And he has no idea what he's playing half the time :'(
Got this pre-ordered. I've never been a fan of the series but this one seems to do away with a lot of guff. Anyway, I shall soon see.
Apparently, it can be completed in 10 minutes!

Edit: It's a spoiler-free link.

I just came here to post the exact same link :-)

Anyway - its not exactly spoiler free for the video (i've not watched it) - however I dont care about the length of the game - as long as its fun and yes you can speed run stuff in really amazing times if you want.
Yeah, I can't say that bothers me. If I get a few evenings play out of it before sticking it on eBay then I'll be happy.
Fuck me, something from Amazon turned up when it was meant to. Look forward to this later.
I read the review on the Guardian, which loved it, but then the BTL comments were just morons moaning that it's only 10 minutes long, and that means it sucks and is a rip off at 60 quid. This made me despair for humanity, but it does look like a good game.

If I had a Sony Thing I would get it.
Huh? This is out now? From shops? Actual shops?

There's only a GAME in Derby, what's the price point for this 15 minute game in the shops?
Curiosity wrote:

WHAT?
£60 is the preorder price for the full game from somewhere surely? This should be £25 or a pound or two cheaper.
Curiosity wrote:

Don't fancy it on 360 then?
It was £20 to preorder from most places and its out on PS3 / PS4 / 360 / Xbox One

I started the PS4 one last night and rather than finish it in 10 minutes i spent the first 10 minutes watching a cut scene - then proceeded to die many times while trying to sneek past some guards or shot them in the face and just ran around shooting people while more and more guards came and shot at me :-)

The one thing I will say after a ~30 minute play with it is that it looks absolutely amazing - its the first thing I've seen on the new consoles that truly looks 'next gen'

I know it can be bought for 20-ish quid. The dribbling fools in comment sections were all moaning, "It's full price and lasts ten minutes! Waaaah!"

But you don't know it can be bought on Microsoft machines?
£30 in real-life shops. I didn't bother.

I think my 360 would die if I tried to play a game on it

Why, what have you done to it?

£25 in Argos for all versions

£23 in game for PS3 / Xbox 360 (£28 for PS4 / Xbox one)

Its showing on Tesco's website as £22 for 360/ps3 and £24 for PS4/Xbox One versions I assume it will be the same in store

http://www.tesco.com/direct/search-resu ... metal+gear

Or if you are okay to wait - £19.75 for any version from Gameseek

http://www.gameseek.co.uk/search.php?c= ... metal+gear

I do also think it will drop in price quite quickly as people go through the game so if you are okay waiting i think it will be 1/2 that before the end of the year and is just the type of thing to go on PS+ before the launch of The Phantom Pain
£25 for the digital version too apparently.

Thanks Mark, I'll definitely check that out when I'm home (I'm assuming you mean on PSN, right?)

I can tell you now that in GAME it's £29.99 and Grainger Games it's £30. I've seen it with mine own eyes.

Yeah, £24.99 on there.

Really unusual for the PSN price to be lower than the street price.

It's just old and on the verge of going all RRoD on me. Won't even work unless in well ventilated area and stood up; often just stops outputting audio when it's been on for a while; sounds like a jumbo jet taking off etc.

I know your probably not that interested but Game (and i assume others) will give you a big discount of a next gen console if you take it along and a selection of games (mainly see it advertised for the Xbox one) - so as long as its not red ringing right now it might be a good time to get rid of it while its still working (to some level)

If you want, I have an old unused 360. Worked last time I used it, currently sitting in loft doing nothing.
Cheers for the offer. I use the 360 so rarely for anything other than watching telly that I shall persevere with it until it dies.

I've got a mate that does the same (i.e. only uses her Xbox for TV duties). The thing is that she's never really played games on it--she's only got about three games in her entire history and no more than a couple of early achievements for each--and yet she's been paying for a Gold level subscription for like the last six years just to watch the iPlayer and stream Sky stuff. Given whatever the 360 cost pretty early in it's life plus the constant Gold sub she's massively over-paid for just a streaming box. The tit.
Really enjoyed the couple of hours I got to have playing this last night. I didn't encounter any of the frustrations I've had whenever I tried to play a MGS game before. Getting spotted isn't the end of the attempt for a start, you can kill a few baddies and then just hide for a bit before making another attempt.
HOW DO I INVERT THE Y AXIS!?
Apparently it's on the main menu or click the lower left of the track pad. Weird.
Yeah, that took me a while. For some unfathomable reason clicking the options button and the right half of the trackpad both do the same thing, bring up your in game map etc. The actual pause menu where the options are you get to by clicking the left half of the trackpad.
To be fair, it was just me being a twat cause you walk no more than 5 feet and it tells you to press the track pad for options.
Mine still hasn't arrived. :(

Tempted to buy it on PSN and send it back when it finally comes.
Bought it for £22 from Asda the other night. Not played it yet. D'oh.
I want to write things about this but I'm too busy at work.

In a nutshell: lovely, reminds me of MGS3, very good in its own Metal Gear-spazzy way and I've been enjoying it. Mind you, Dark Souls has been taking up too much of my time but I'd like to play some more.

Dark Souls.

2.
I love Keifer's voice as Snake an' all. I can pretend that I'm not playing MGS but rather a silly episode of 24 (read: most episodes of 24 from season 2 onwards).
Well I finished it but true to my usual form with these sorts of games I did my best but kept getting spotted and so everyone in the entire map ended up dead. I'll try again and see if I can keep the body count down a bit.
