Bioshock Infinite announced

It's neither sequel nor prequel - it's a wholly new game, set in a different world altogether (another alternative history where America has built a floating city in 1912). New game engine too. Similar-ish game mechanics mixing psychic powers and gunplay, but in a world less wrecked than Rapture - looks like there are many more neutral NPCs this time. For release in 2012(!). Looks good to me.
You cunts. Don't announce a game this early!
When archaeologists write about our times, they will find our movies and games, and come to the conclusion that our counting system is 1 - 2 - [abstract noun] - [adjective] - X, and then goes back to 1 again.

They will mock us.
What's so infinite about it? is it like Frontier?
It's too early to announce this and get my hopes up. They now have at least a year and a half to build my expectations to unbelievable proportions and it when shows up finally I will be all, "This isn't a hologram! This didn't cure my cancer! This isn't even as good as the first Bioshock!"

Boo.

But also yay because it looks like it could be really good. (DAMMIT IT'S ALREADY STARTED.)
I've only just got Bioshock 2. I am so far behind the curve.

Maybe there's a bug that prevents you from completing it.
I still haven't completed Bioshock 1. I couldn't be arsed to finish it :(
2012? Having recently bought Bioshock 1&2 I'll need that long to get through them both.
A shit sequel to a shit game, which was a shit sequel to a shit game.

I'm thoroughly excited!
Personally I'm looking forward to this as I loved the first Bioshock and liked the second a lot as well.

And IIRC wasn't there like 2 years of hype behind Bioshock 1
I tolerated the first and liked the second. I'm not sure how this sets me up for infiniatetate.
Cor! You all watched the gameplay footage on the dashboard? Looking pretty impressive. Not out until 2012 though!

I am still doing 1...
Yeah, it's looking good.

Although it's also really obviously being played by someone who is trying to make it look good.

Indeed -- making all this pre-pre-hype a little too navel-gazeish for my liking.
Naval as in shipping LIKE ON A SEA WHERE A BIRD LIVES or naval belly button?
A belly button full of water with a tiny toy boat sailing across it.

Looks like it's set in America. Five years ago.
Just watched the 10 minute gameplay trailer. Looks awesome!
That trailer looks really nice - I'm just worried that, as it's Bioshock, you'll end up spending half the game protecting what's-her-face from getting hurt.
YES!

Yay! I must confess I only played the MP once then couldn't be bothered to boot it up again. Same with Dead Space.

I was reasonably happy with the conclusion of each story and the MP felt like it was ruining my memories.
Assassin's Creed has robbed me of maxes for three iterations now, as I point blank refuse to deal with the shit multiplayer.

Nice, but will it feature stupid protection missions?

The whole game is one long protection mission, surely?

Vote for the cover! Many nice ones. I like 2, 4 and 6.
Definitely gotta be 2 for me, but I'm pleased 4 is winning by a good margin.
Is the shitty, terrible third design ripped off from a recent film? It's possible it's just so 'generic bullshit Hollywood film poster' that it seems familiar but it's tickling a memory somewhere in my head...

"There's a tough and important man staring randomly off-camera. He's so fucking tough and important that he's got a big gun and he's covered in sparks. We don't know where the sparks are coming from but they're probably attracted to the man like we are because he's so tough and important. Oh, and did we mention how casual his toughness is? Probably not, but you'll have worked that out by now because he's not just holding a big gun: he's slung it over his shoulder. Because he's so tough. And important. And casual. Also, there's woman. She's looking pensively at something, but we don't know what. We don't really care to be honest because we're looking at the man. And thinking about how tough and important and casual he is. Mmmmmmm."

Which three? :hat:

I voted for 4.
Number 4 is the awesomest by miles.
2 and 4 are both distinctive but I went with 2 as it has a hat in it.
I've seen the front cover. #3 won.

Not long to go either...24th of this very month.
I'm not pre-ordering this, on principle alone.

I'm going to wait for it to be released, I'm going to check that it's all working properly, I'm going to read some reviews - and if it's all OK, then I'll buy it.

Diablo 3 and Sim City have spoiled everything.
Caved. Pre-ordered. The four-games-for-£24 from GreenManGaming was too good to ignore.
Four games for £24, including Bioshock Infinite?
Yes. See bargains thread.
The reviews are trickling in for this now and it's doing very, very well indeed; with a 10/10 from Eurogamer and current 96/100 on Metacritic.

I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of the first game but less so the actual game mechanics--to the point of getting bored with the gameplay about half way through and just god-modeing to the end to see the game out--so I'll be interested to see what folks here have to say about how it actually plays versus the first game before I consider picking it up.

Is that because it looks like she's hanging on to a huge cock? :p
I'm getting this off lovefilm tomorrow. Pretty excited, just wish I wasn't in the middle of Far Cry 3.
For some reason, GAME convinced me to put a pre-order down on this for more money [on the rewards card when trading some junk in]. Apparently I could just cancel it and get my moolah back but I might not bother now.

Edit: for clarity. I'm still not sure what was going on but I got money on a card.
I'll probably crack and buy this on Steam before the weekend.

I still remember my first Bioshock playthrough, played it on the 360 on the big telly, with the proper 5:1 sound going on, in the dark - a truly memorable gaming experience.

Really looking forward to seeing what they've done with Infinite.
If you're gonna crumble, why not just preorder it and sell/gift the freebies?

Diablo 3 and the new Sim City game have well and truly terrorised my pre-ordering instincts.
What are Game offering for pre-orders?

MVC reckon this is on track to become the best rated game in Metacritic history. If that matters.

In that case, best you don't pre-order, I don't want a shit game! Although, for $45, I think I'm gonna be unlucky not to enjoy this or Xcom or Civ V.
