Yay! :D

You know we all expect invites right? ;)
Gay marriage should be called 'marriage'.
In other news, Strathclyde police are hunting for a tall, dark-haired woman in her 20s who was reportedly seen 'slavering like a wild beast' at the displays in jewellers' shops along Sauchiehall Street.

Also, Yay!
About time too. Now sort this shit out, Cameron (an the rest f the bloody world).

Nah, just angry at the world.

Just this week the first ever female US astronaut (and youngest ever astronaut) died of cancer, and her same-sex partner of 27 years was denied federal benefits. It's just stupid.
I knew about her death, I didn't know about the other stuff. :(
The tough part for me starts now. I have to try and stop myself proposing marriage every time I look at her and instead be patient. I'm totally going to spend tonight browsing my favourite wedding sites and making plans for the day she does finally ask though ;)
@MA,I'm way ahead of you. I sent her links to my favourite rings weeks ago!

Why does it have to be Jen doing the asking?

I knew someone would ask that! When we first started talking about marriage, Jen made it clear that she wasn't really interested in it. She didn't disagree with getting married, she just didn't really have an opinion on wether she wanted to get married. I, on the other hand, would love to get married. When we bought a house together, she started to see more value in marriage and over time she has gradually started coming round to it a bit, but I think that if I didn't want it then she'd still be happy to ignore it.
I could ask her to marry me, and she could say yes. Equally however, she could roll her eyes and tell me to shut up. Whereas if she ever asks me, I'm going to be crying, hugging her, gazing at the engagement with a huge smile on my face, the whole nine yards. So a proposal would mean the world to me.
Tell her you've had a few offers.

:)

I see! I understand that completely. Then I hope one day you get what you've been wishing for.

I imagine if anyone else asked, Gilly would probably say no.
But only "probably" :D

She does seem quite keen on the idea in general.
Heh, if some other hot girl comes along and asks me then I might give it some thought ;)

Gay marriage should be called Garage.
I don't even know what gay marriage means. If Gilly, who is a gay, marries some bloke who is also a gay, is that a gay marriage? I fail to see how it could be any gayer. What if I married Gilly? Is that a half gay marriage?

Being rather more serious for a moment, surely the more marriages there are featuring 100% gay people, the sooner it will become entirely normal in the eyes of more or less everyone, so everyone who can do it without too much ballache really ought to go for it, for the benefit of future generations.

Those 93% gay gay people devalue the brand.

For those that did my MSc survey, there was some stuff about protected information by law. Religion, ethnicity and sexuality are three items which are protected. Of the people who filled in the survey, far more were concerned about stuff like keeping financial or criminal records anonymous than religion or sexuality.

There are two ways to read that - either everyone wants to know about someone elses sexuality or religion (hugely unlikely) or everyone doesn't care about them. It seems the anti-gay lobby are just a (pun intended) minority.
I've been very unkind to the SNP elsewhere in this forum, but for this decision they rightly deserve congratulations. Time for the rest of the union to follow suit!
I think all forms of marriage should be outlawed.

I agree, it would be wonderful if we could just call it all marriage without having to specify and I can't wait for the day that's the case. Unfortunatly, it isn't really the case now. I couldn't just have announced in this thread that marriage was going to be legalised, because it's pretty commonly accepted that marriage is legal!
Same as how I can't now browse websites looking for my ideal wedding abroad, without specifying in my searches that it's a gay wedding. Which is really frustrating. Any website you visit that does weddings has a separate section for gay weddings because a load of places simply don't accommodate them. It's annoying! Not that I'm browsing weddings abroad. Or anywhere for that matter. :ninja:
I always read this thread on the front page as:

Word.
They say that no church will be forced into doing Gay Marriages so if they all say no will anything change?

When I got married I had no intrest in a church wedding, but my wife did so I did what I was told. :DD

Yes it will. Gay people can get married instead of 'civil partnered'. It's got nothing to do with storming into churches and demanding that they perform ceremonies, it's got everything to do with underlining the fact that a marriage is between two people who love each other, and sexuality is completely fucking irrelevant.

Well, one change would be that gay couples were no longer being segregated with a different classification of relationship. I've mentioned this on here before but my main problem with civil partnerships is that they are distinct from marriages and I think having that distinction is harmful to how people view them, particularly to children growing up in a country where gay couples are treated and classified differently.
There are also lots of religious organisations that have expressed desire to be able to carry out gay marriages. Off the top of my head, officials from Judaism, Buddhism and some individual members of the Catholic and Protestant churches have stated that position.

I don't really understand why any gay couples would want to be married by a priest or minister who was against the union, but they must feel there is a need for that part of the law, if only to appease the vocal bigots.
I don't understand people who are against it anyway... it's not like they're trying to turn the bigots gay and then marry them*. It won't affect them in any way.

*though that would make an interesting 'Stupid Supermarket Woman Weekly' cover: "BIGOT'S LAMENT: I was forced into a gay marriage!"

I particularly don't understand the people who cite the bible as reasons for being against it and then wilfully disregard the stuff in the bible about not cutting your hair or beard, not doing any work on a Sunday, or not wearing clothes made of more than one material or whatever nonsense it is.
I'm pretty sure it also features a guy who goes round encouraging people to love one another too.

Zardoz is in the bible?
"And lo, he did speak of the colostomy gash.
And it was bad. And the men did weep,
and the women did vomit and cry and
the beasts of the land and the fishes
in the sea all shivered with revulsion.
For it was not nice."

I posted a link to the BBC article this morning announcing the SNPs decision to my Facebook page.
My Dad commented, "That looks like fun as well as being a useful skill."

??

I replied "What's a useful skill, being married? What are you talking about?!x"

I just noticed he'd replied again.

"That comment was supposed to be with Tom's post about Kevin attending a Skid Training session and I can categorically state that I am not 'coming out'."

Grauniad: Plans for gay marriage vote likely to get go-ahead before Christmas

The sooner the better. In 10 year's time we're going to wonder what all the fuss was about.
I fear a referendum.
I doubt there's much enthusiasm in either party for another poll now.

The main risk is that the longer they delay, the more likely that worried Tory MPs in marginal seats will fear a backlash from the more prejudiced party loyalists, and will want a delay to the Bill (or kicking it into the long grass) to appease their core support.
Hmm... just checked the Scottish Parliament site and their bill hasn't been tabled yet. But, still early days in the session of either Parliament.

Councils will make an absolute killing from a booming registrar demand and the church will pompously complain about its plummeting market share, going on to demand that non-church ceremonies be banned because won't someone think of the Christians and we're all going to hell and not even in a nice white dress.

I don't really see why there would be a correlation between Churches not doing gay weddings and a decrease in church weddings - It's not like gay weddings are going to be taking the market share given that that market didn't exist before.
