Proper DIY Snappa, good man! Pics.

I'm seguewaying into more and more property work at the moment, though still taking pictures as well, but I really kinda like it, as it keeps me busy and pays really rather well.

:'(

Come to London baby!

Also: Powertools. I get to buy expensive powertools. This is a good thing :)

Right with you there. It gets less good the second time, but still.

Someone should ban me from Screwfix. So far in the last four weeks I have bought the following.

Warning. Tool Porn :)

A biscuit jointer http://www.screwfix.com/p/dewalt-dw682k ... nter/22417
An SDS hammer drill http://www.screwfix.com/p/dewalt-d25123 ... 230v/27907
A jigsaw http://www.screwfix.com/p/dewalt-dw331k ... gsaw/33420
An electric plane http://www.screwfix.com/p/dewalt-d26500 ... 240v/37086

Goes without saying that all of these are fucking awesome.

I fucking love good tools (go for it Zardoz ;) )
Aw yeah!

Me too, I'm in a tool porn Flickr group :DD

For shots like this that I took:

Nice! I had one. I make do with a biscuit bit on a borrowed router now. Actually, must remember to get biscuits.

Oh, if you need to attach anything to masonry, get yourself some tapcons from screwfix, it's the best screw in the world!
SDS drills are ace. Try removing a single brick out of a wall by hand and then try it with an SDS. :metul:

New floor put down today and wallpapering done. :)
Well done Gilly! That's ace :D
Ooh well done! That looks very tidy indeed. :)
Nicely done! That looks great!
I'm jealous... that's some proper skills there! Nice one!
We were considering papering that boxy bit in the corner but changed our minds after faffing about cutting out a single blue stripe to do the edge of the wall next to it :D
The floor was remarkably easy to do, just borrowed the jigsaw from my dad. Not much left to do now, I did the finishing coat of plaster on Saturday so painting the kitchen this week (or at least Jen is!), then putting the radiator back on. New bed arrives in the next couple of weeks so our bed is moving to the spare room and we get an orthopedic memory foam mattress for us as well :)
So we should be set up to recieve guests within the next couple of weeks!
Veeery nice. Is that new skirting as well? Either way, neat job.
Is that a wagging dog tail in the bottom left? :)

You've done a good job there, Gilly.

Skirting is the stuff that was already there but it's not the nicest so I am thinking of replacing it. Might just leave it since it's only the spare room.

Yep, she wasn't allowed in while the carpet was up and we were painting and wallpapering and stuff so she was pretty excited to get back in again :D
I hung Hel's picture on Saturday. Stupid house isn't straight, no matter what angle I adjust it to it looks off.

DIY is definitely G-ing TFO this week; the joiner and doors arrived at 8.30 and he is right now hanging them. We chose and bought the handles (and picked the doors) ourselves, though! The same will be happening with the electrics later this month.
House starting to come together finally. Had to wire it from scratch which has taken a few weekends, but today had the fun part of fitting all the sockets and switches and light fixtures. It works! Yay.
Nice one! For far too long, I thought that top picture was of an egg.
:) looking awesome, especially the holy egg of destiny.
pics of living room floor?
I've been ordered to redo our bathroom.

We're keeping the toilet, bath and sink and removing the wall to ceiling tiles that the previous owners put up. So far, they're stuck with an adhesive that Baron Zemo would be proud of.

This could take a while.
Good luck!
(Hire an SDS drill with a tile removing chisel bit)

You can tile over tiles.
Yeah but these tiles go from floor to ceiling on all four walls.. They need to come off.
Sucks to be you.
As Kalmar says, either hire or buy an SDS hammer drill with a chisel bit. It'll still be hard work, but a lot quicker than doing it with a hammer and chisel.

Screwfix are selling a deWalt SDS hammer drill for £100 at the moment, which granted, [edit] is the metal geared one but is only 650W, but for occasional use it'll be more than you need.

Two options:

1) Dynamite
2) Get Joans to wire a light on the walls in question.

Functionally the same, but one is more illegal than the other
I put up a new fence post and two new fence panels at the weekend! Those who've seen the innovate skills and techniques on show on my bedroom door will be thrilled to know that a similar level of skillful engineering applies to the fence.
I put up two new curtain poles last weekend. I've done it before, but this time they're dead straight. I also worked on the cable trunking, which involved some rawl plugs exploding, one of them very nearly blinding me >:|

Still, bedroom's nearly finished, only 14 months after I moved in!
Here's a DIY related question. If I plaster my bathroom, how long should I leave it before I tile over it?
Same as with painting I'd say, few days/until it looks dry
0 Minutes. Saves spending money on tile adhesive.
24 - 36 hours but basically the next day should be fine.
Excellent. That's good to know as we're in a bit of a rush to get things sorted.
Help me Hive Mind.

I want a Splashback for my kitchen. Y'know, like you have round the back of fancy showers and stuff but you can get them for kitchens. I've got it in my own mind that a kitchen Splashback should be glass or summats, and I've seen a few here and there usually in one tone colours or frosted glass that you screw against the wall. They look all very nice but I want a picture behind mine.

So I'm looking for a custom Splashback for the kitchen in glass and I want to send my own hi res piccy of a moody tree in black and white and they'll knock it up and leave it outside my gaff after I deposit a small amount of cash in their computerised letter box.

That's the plan, anyway. Thing is, I can't really find anyone advertising this sort of thing about.

Then I come a across pimpyourkitchen.co.uk advertising exactly that. I got a quote; seemed very reasonable but then it was highlighted that they don't do glass splashbacks - they're a lot of thick laminate that you wallpaper to your wall (natch).

Here's the Web-o if anyone wants a look.

http://www.pimpyourkitchen.co.uk/instructions.html

It's not really what I had in mind. I wanted glass for some reason. I'd imagine glass would look the business. So I was wondering of anyone knows anything about this stuff. Do these laminate things look alright or do you know of anyone doing glass stuff. Anyone? Anyone out there? No?
I once visited a pub that had a laminated picture of Philip Schoffield in the cubicle. It looked fine, people presumably gave it a wipe once they were finished.

Any glass place will do you toughened glass cut to size with beveled edges and fixing holes for cheapz - supply your own print or paint the back.
Not to sound glib, but what kind of 'glass place' would I be looking for? Say, if I was searching my local area.

Would a glass place mount the print and seal it (I'm assuming something like that's needed if its in a kitchen).
Is moving a radiator easy enough that me and Joans could do it?
I think so... How good is Joans with diy? :p

Yeah, one at each end should do it.

I'll just post a picture of water flooding all over the place and hopefully someone will tell me where I'm going wrong.

Also, which radiator. And why?
The one in the lounge, it is a really hot day, so it isn't needed.
I have hung a door! I am a DIY superhero!

It doesn't quite close, like - but my mum always said "Fuck it, that'll do!"
I cut a carpet strip up today, then screwed them to the floor in the right place. Looks pretty reasonable, thankfully.

I also tidied up the wiring behind the telly (not just telly stuff but phone, Infinity and switch for the CAT6 I ran the other month. Turns out we do in fact have enough wall sockets, so I don't know why I left the 6 gang there. Looks... well, it still looks shit, because it's an unavoidable horrible rat's nest. But not as shit.
Joans wants to plaster the bedroom tomorrow. :/

Found the underwear, then? ;)
