A little explanation for those that haven't seen it before:

Quote:
Tasks
Put the internet to work for you by creating tasks that fit this simple structure:
if this then that
Think of all the things you could do if you were able to define any task as: when something happens (this) then do something else (that).

Triggers
if this then that
The this part of a task is the Trigger. Some example Triggers are "if I'm tagged in a photo on Facebook" or "if I tweet on Twitter."

Actions
if this then that
The that part of a task is the Action. Some example Actions are "then send me a text message" or "then create a status message on Facebook."

For example:

So it's basically a rules engine for things that happen over various third party services. Quite a good idea, I guess.
I can't think of anything I can use it for, though.

I fear it's going to be used by people to spam all their updates to the social sphere (is that a thing?) at once :(
well the use of it for me (although i agree with your point), is getting things automatically to my dropbox, so i have now ordered it that when i'm tagged in a facebook photo, it goes to dropbox, so i've got it immediately available..

Ooh, I like that idea.

Yeah, that's the only real one I could think of as being useful.
Could you set it up to automatically post a ' :belm: ' whenever Kissyfur types the words Dynamo or Film?

That recipe already existed of course, in fact it's the no.2 on the list of recipes.

FUCK OFF
I wonder if it does anything to prevent you setting up some sort of never-ending loop.

If not you could attach a dynamo to the code.
Useful for Craster:

IF physics THEN :belm:
Christ, it isn't half slow.
If HALF SLOW then HURRY THE FUCK UP

HTH HAND
I use it so that any tweet I favourite gets any urls in it added to my Instapaper read later list.

You don't use a Twitter client that has an "add to Instapaper" button?
He doesn't need one, does he?

It seems less hacky, though.
If it's less overly complex and failure prone then it's UNDERENGINEERED.

I don't have a client where that works without opening the link at the same time. It's for low signal / not on my computer browsing really.
Hi folks!

I’m here with your semi-regular dose of stupid.

I’m trying to do something with IFTTT or iOS Shortcuts, or a (supercombo?) that will check the weather FORECAST at, say, 4pm for the next 24hrs and alert me if the temperature is forecast to go below 2°c.

I’ve tried it a few times before and always failed and just deleted it all in a huff. Stuff with the current temperature is easy, but I’m struggling to get it to inform me of impending low temperatures, and my brain is too rubbish at remembering to check manually.

Side quest: I would also love to scan a QR or NFC or push a button by the back door to ‘set’ my washing as being on the line and then have an alert set to announce on Alexa when rain is due in the next 15 minutes (which there is a system for on the native weather app on iPhone, so *may* be possible?)

Any ideas?
I managed to get it to output the daily lows for each day, in a text list. I can’t work out how to import only the first value. So I tried to import the hourly temperatures but then it seems to only look at the first value on the list. Then I messed it up further.

It’s texting Russell at the moment as I just cannot get the notifications to work on my phone, but I think that’s due to my notifications settings.

I’m just posting this because I’m frustrated :D
I wonder if I have to list the numbers and then if statement each one in turn? Maybe sort them first?
Can list them but can’t seem to find a way to sort them.

Why can I not get the daily low? But then I’d need it today/tomorrow overnight, wouldn’t I?
I honestly just want something to tell me when to bring the plants indoors overnight.
If "Daddy" has an android phone he can do it with the Google Home app. You might be able to on iPhone too, I don't know.
He does have Android. Thanks Grim…, I’ll get him to look at that tonight as that’d likely be easier.
It looks like that action tells you the weather or tomorrow each night at 8. But is there something to say "only tell me if the overnight low is below x"
I enjoy my morning routine of google on my phone telling me the weather, and a joke, and then reading the news each morning.

It can also read any text/phrases you want it to, so it says "poo poo and wee wee". if I hear the kidlets sniggering about that it's clear they are awake and alert.
