Frozen Synapse -- "Rebelstar Raiders for 2011"
Indie online TBS

This sounds excellent: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011- ... pse-review

PC and Mac. Turn-based strategy, mostly for online multiplayer, with games taking as little as ten minutes to play. Interesting neon aesthetic. Been in beta for ages, so quite polished and balanced now. £15.19 on Steam gets you two copies, one for you and one to gift to a friend to play against (which is a bloody clever move).

Edit -- also, extremely low system spec requirements -- 1.6 GHz, 512 MB RAM, "netbook graphics". Eurogamer commenters are claiming it's "Rebelstar Raiders for 2011". High praise indeed.
Grim... and I are in, for we are men of ACTION NOT CONTEMPLATION.
Rebelstar you say...

hmmm!

Tempt-oh.

I hope Captain Krenon is in it.
Could be tempted.

FUCK OFF STEAM YOU INEXCUSABLE BUNDLE OF SHIT!
This topic needs a better name, I only came in here as I was bored, expecting it to be some uber boring sciencey stuff, whereas it turned out to be uber exciting game stuff!
Downloaded and the bloody game won't even load on OSX. Just gets to the initial screen and does fuck all....
It works! Had to reboot my Mac, of all things.

Seems a tad complex, but looks fun :)

I am Trooper on there if anyone wants to add me or anything or however it works.
Bah! I don't want complex! I want to equip a gun, shoot a rat from distance and then raid the lovingly tiled alien castle and nick their eggs.

:(

Having played a couple of the single player levels, it isn't anywhere near as complex as the tutorial led me to believe :)

Sweet!

Okay, I'm into this again then.
I bought this - I'm gifting it to my mate though so sorry if anyone's looking for a copy - I would've given it away on here were it not for interest from him. For some reason though, my Steam purchase has been "pending" for hours and I can't install the game. Paid with PayPal. I've got the receipt from PayPal but nothing from Valve. Fucking pain in the arse.

Anyway, Jonarob on Steam for those who don't have me on their list yet!
unable to find Jonarob...

FWIW, I think FS doesn't use steam usernames, you have to register a username in the game.

Yet I can see you perfectly fine in the Beteo group.

Steam really is a big pile of arse.
That'd be because I haven't played it yet! But as I'm typing this you've added me to Steam friends, which is what I intended anyway! :D

It was steam that was complaining! I did a search for the username "Jonarob" on steam and it couldn't find you, the only way I could add you was to go to the Beteo group and add you from the drop down there...
This is the perfect Beex game!

:DD
Strange! Also, I'm Jonarob in Frozen Synapse now as well if you'd like to add me up!
Oh, and really Steam, really? You moronic piece of shit.
Haha what the hell? Anyway - I'm off out - I got your game request, but I've just completed the tutorial and feel I perhaps need to spend an hour or so with the singleplayer before I delve into multi. I don't want to mess up my perfect 0-0 record!
Jesus, I am awful at this game, it's taking me at least 5 retrys to pass each level in single player.
I've bought this, since none of you buggers would play Naked War maybe this snazzy modern reworking of the genre will be more to everyone's taste.

I'm 'Chopley Turnip' on Steam if anyone wants to friend-me-up.

I've got Portal 2 downloading at the moment, then Frozen Synapse will be coming down.

EDIT - A BETEO group on Steam you say, excellent, I have joined that.
Just downloading this now :DD Looks pretty nice, i am jenkinstom on Steam and not sure what on FS yet, so how do i join the Beex group on steam? have managed to avoid steam until now

Just go to the 'COMMUNITY' tab and search for 'beteo' - the group is the only result that comes back.

It's a public group so you can join straight up.
got it thanks :D

Am SlightlyGreen as a username on FS btw
Loving the music and the humour already, not done anything in multiplayer yet mind.

I've bought the soundtrack edition, is the awesome music missing if you don't get that?
I bought the normal version, and was getting music, but i've turned all that off now :D I pretty much always turn off any background music on games!

I am finding the single player rock hard, past the first couple of missions i'm getting my arse handed to me all the time.

What's your login name on FS?

I'm 'ChopleyTurnip' on FS and 'Chopley Turnip' on Steam, it won't let me have a space in my username on FS.

I have to say that as much as I enjoyed the music I turned it off, as it was distracting my mind. When you're old like I am you can't handle too many stimuli at once.

I'd be interested to know what the difference between the normal and the soundtrack version is though.
I've bought this, but mainly for single player as I'm an antisocial bugger. Someone shout up if they'd like the other copy.
Is this game more popular than they were expecting or something?

Couldn't log in at all last night after about 9pm, and it's slow this morning, albeit functional.

Showing as 600 people online, there were nearly 1000 last night, which is a lot of connections if they only have a server or two.
Rave review here from TotalBiscuit, who's better known for his WoW stuff.

He certainly likes it. A lot.

Booo!

Was just planning out my turn to you and lost connection to the grand server (which clearly isn't that grand). Will try again later.

I'm going to be really, really shit to start with, I've played through the tutorial and the first campaign level and that's all, I think games like this need human opponents so I'll learn on the job, as it were.

The music is lovely, I've turned it back on. I was a bit squiffy last night and couldn't concentrate with the music on, but now I'm just drinking strong tea.
It's "requesting new account...".
It has been for ten minutes :(
Restarted and I'm off!

I'm called 'Grim...'.
I have challenged you!
Can someone sum this game up for me, it sounds fun.
It's basically a game where I make poor tactical decisions and get my head blown off in a multitude of different ways...
Oh my, this is good.
okay, I want. It sounds good. (Is there a demo?)

This will show you exactly what it's like...

I think I'll be letting Trooper export the current massacre :S
I'm off out for the day now :( But I'll be on later, I'm a bit miffed I couldn't get my turn sent to Trooper before.

Some of my FUCKING STUPID friends are refusing to even try this based on what it looks like. Stupid people are so stupid.

For some reason youtube export doesn't work for me, fails with error code 5?
That doesn't look turn based?
Bobbyaro wrote:

You plan and commit your turns simultaneously, and then they play out. That was four turns, I think.
Note that that was a "dark" game, so I didn't know where Trooper's red men were unless one of my green men has line of sight.
Bobbyaro wrote:

The turns are 5 seconds long, and play simulatenously, so after every 5 seconds of actions, you get to give new orders and click the play button again.

Obviously, once the game is over it just plays all the action :)
Oh, and a tip for everybody, only play the "dark" mode games, as that use line of sight for enemy position, "light" mode has everyone visible to everyone at all times, which is a bit boring...

Dunno.. I can't even seem to give my copy away. :S
