Are you the bloke who is slightly chubbier and less cool than all of his photos per chance?

Very, very, very much so.

EDIT: Of course that still relative. I don't look cool in my photos to begin with...
Aw man, sodding google images let me down with "Tintin looking through telescope" :(

Dr Lave is Stewart Lee?
30 minutes people.

THIRTY MINUTES until the dawning of the new television order.
OohoohohooOOOOOO! I hope he tells us to burn our pants.
Oh noes! The TV is too difficult for my chimpanzee brain to suss out in this new home, and the remote has gone walkies. Can I stream BB2 online?

Edit: sorry, found it.
Yes - tvcatchup.com

Unfortunately my broadband isn't very broad right now and it was pausing, despite protracted fiddling with phone wires. So I'm going to have to watch it tomorrow once I can download it off iplayer.

thanks beeb!

theeb.
Excellent in places.

The final punchline of the Asher D bit had me in pieces.
WHee! That were good. Nice to see Simon Munnery on telly. The red button interactive bit of Armando Ianananuscicci vs Stewart Lee stuff was good too.
I toyed with watching it, then realised that I'd spend the entire time thinking of how much I want to punch Stewart Lee in the face instead of laughing. He does have an incredibly punchable face, doesn't he? (I could just close my eyes, but fantasizing about punching Stewart Lee is still more fun than sitting in complete, stony silence.)

Of course, this wasn't helped by reading that article about his 'Del-boy falling through the bar' bit. How dare he take shots at one of the finest pieces of physical comedy seen on British television? Fucking smug-faced cunt. I mean, its no longer as funny as it once was, but if you take any piece of comedy and rip its screaming form from the womb of context and force it to repeat itself twelve million times... Well, little can survive that. See also most of Python's famous stuff.
Oooh liked that a lot.

Great seeing munnery, eldon and curious orange guy in tow. That makes me happy. Interesting to see how they edited it. He made lots of references to it being filmed which they've elegantly snipped out.

As I said at the time, the books one was the weakest of the three I saw, so it's all looking good!

Mental Note: No longer give weight to the opinions of Pundabaya.

I was at the filming of the Del-boy bit, and I've always found the scene hilarious. But the bit Lee does about it is amazing. And the target of his assault is the publc not the scene. But no point arguing about the scene till it's been on.

EDIT: Urgh, sleepy post. Going beddy beddy bo bos.

Good stuff. Not perfect, by any means, but it's just nice (if not surprisingly so) to see a comedy show on BBC Two at 10pm that (a) largely features one man on a stage saying funny things, and (b) that isn't pandering to as large an audience as possible. Also, Jerry Sadowitz appears in a later episode, I believe.

Also this: It would have been improved if Rodafowa had wore the cowboy hat from his Gamerpic.
Moving against the zeitgeist, I watched it, and didn't think it was terribly good.

:this:

Half the time I was wondering how the hell it got past the people whose job it is to add "shouting" and "zany" and "wacky" and "bad taste moments" into comedy. Must gave been there day off, and next weeks will have the usual quota of "ironic racism. Or is it? OR IS IT?"
I laughed a lot, as did my wife. Even when he was saying nasty things about Dan Brown and Harry Potter.
I must say I didn't laugh out loud much, but I did enjoy it all and was smiling all the way through.

I was giggling like a loon and roaring with laughter at points. Been a long time since I found anything on TV so funny.

Well, it made me laugh quite a lot.

I don't get it. He just sort of stands there and says stuff. Not any old stuf, but stuff about books, and books are rubbish. He's didn't jump around manically and shout. He's not fat for a start, and everyone knows that fat people are just so hysterical, especially when you see them doing things you wouldn't expect them to be doing. And he didn't once do a stereotype gay character or anything. And where were his catchphrases? This isn't comedy. I don't pay my licence fee for people to be try to make me laugh by being "clever" and "laconically witty" and "funny"

My advice to Lee is come back when you've got some catchphrases that are still hilarious when you hear them 154 times. Also, put on a couple of stone, and you have a wardrobe full of figure hugging Lycra so you can do things like speed skating (imagine if he fell through the ice omg LOLZ!!!!!!!1111!!)
Is he turning into Morrissey or is Morrissey turning into him?

Terrifyingly well done. The prize is yours! :DD
I've just watched it and I don't think it was all that good. I've never been a fan of Stewart Lee (or TMWRNJ). It made me slightly chuckle occasionally though. Nice idea though as Mark X says. I think a fair few of the jokes were a bit easy and under developed. The reaction to Chris Moyles writing a book really went on too long. Still, I'll try again next week.
I also clapped at it. Loved it. Like a woman. I also noticed him use a Simon Munnery line, to whit "You can read the Bible and dismiss it as nonsense if you like; you can dismiss it as nonsense without reading it to save time if you prefer"

That really is 1/2 the joke.

Yes I know but it still doesn't work. It was really really long and got pretty boring half way.
I disagree. I enjoy things more if they go on and on beyond their natural ending point. The first time I realised this was watching Monty Python and the Holy Grail, when Sir Lancelot continually runs up the road to assault the castle in the swamp. It goes on for just one tick more than you expect it, thus it wins.

I also love stuff that goes on for far too long. Like your beard.

I think that's the marmite nature of Mr Lee. His slow rumbling inevitable humour is divisive but, if you like it, it's divine. The way when he is attacking something or someone and you know his punch line and he knows you know, but yet here it comes... every so slowly... to ridicule whatever it is... is just perfect. It's the most perfect humiliation for whatever is in his sights.

He's very much a craftsman, no improve, no deviation, just something perfectly crafted.
I agree with Dimrill.

I didn't watch the program though.
I thought the red button bit was a lot better than the actual show. He seemed to be enjoying himself considerably with Iannucci as a foil.

There was an advert for "Horden Corden" which preceded it which was about 1% as funny as anything that followed.

I utterly disagree with this. I've always thought that the funny created by overrunning the joke doesn't make up for the amount of time wasted in doing it.

I utterly disagree with you. If something is funny, then the toil in getting there (no matter how much) is always, always worth it.

Oh don't be daft! There was a fat man, who wobbled his belly! AHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH! And then the fat man pushed the thin man in a lift! It's sure to be the genius geniusnesses of our telly future.

Did it, or did it not, make me laugh? Answer: yes. Therefore time well spent.

Did I realised by the third time you did it that you were going for an over-running joke? Yes. Did then continuing on to the eighth time add any funny to that? Not really, no. Especially at the expense of the extra funny you could have squeezed into that time.
Caveat - sometimes it's done right, and that's when you slightly overrun the joke. Repeat it once or twice more than expected. That's funny. Repeat it 5+ more times and you're just wasting my time.

I've often heard that a joke every 30 seconds is a good thing for a stand up comedian to aim for. Otherwise, it's just like an after dinner speech.

But not mine. And my time is completely valueless thus I win. YOU LOVE IT YOU TROUT WHORE!
