Until I got an iPad for my 60th birthday, about the only Apple products I'd used were iTunes and an iPod, and although they fucked about with iTunes, it still met my basic need to be able to put music on my iPod and create playlists. So this is the first time they've completely stopped my in my tracks (see what I did there?)
Apple have a long track record of forcing tech changes on users in the name of progress. The original iMac abruptly moving everyone over to USB is the one that sticks in my memory. Or more recently, the Macbook Air only having USB-C ports. Long term Apple users seem jaded to it now.

You've probably done all the comparison you need to, but Waltr is meant to be v.g. for just this, and presumably cheaper (it pops up in bundles from time to time - I picked it up a couple of months ago for $5) because it does less.

https://softorino.com/waltr/

I had a look at Waltr, but it doesn't allow you to organise playlists as I could in iTunes. Also tried the free trial of Imazing. That doesn't see all my music files, it doesn't find stuffI recorded via Audacity, and I suspect Waltr would have the same limitations.

However, I do currently have use of a loaned Windows 10 laptop, so I've installed iTunes on that. Not really what I wanted to have to do, but it's a work around for now.

When I got home from work today Mrs W said she couldn't login on her Chromebook, that it was saying her password was wrong. I tried my login, and got a 2FA message on my phone asking if it was me logging in. When I confirmed it was, the Chromebook started to log me in, then came up with a message that my password couldn't be verified.

I logged into my Google account with no problems on my other devices and my wife can log in to her account, and she can use the Guest browser on her Chromebook and log into her mail account.

Although it's quite an old machine, its still due to get auto updates until September 2021.

As usual, checking out Google Help or Community doesn't give a solution to this scenario. They provide several standard suggesrions, e.g. checking Caps Lock isn't on, that you have the English KB selected, that you have a good internet connection, resetting your passwords, etc, but doesn't offer any suggestions as to what to do if you've tried all those things but the problem isn't resolved. It certainly isn't the passwords that are wrong as they work on other devices. The only other thing I haven't tried is a factory reset, which I'm relucant to do, although I don't think there's much data on it that we can't afford to lose.

After spending more fruitless time reading Chromebook forum suggestions I ended up doing a factory reset and we're all sorted now. If we moist anything, it was probably puppy training guides.
I am now doing middle aged things and am looking forward to a bank holiday spent assembling flat pack furniture. Yes, it's come to this.
I rather enjoy doing flatpack furniture too. I've sometimes wondered about doing it for others too (like elderly, single folk or suchlike) for a small fee, to get a bit of beer money.

There are companies out there that charge something stupid like £40+ an hour to do it for the terminally inept.
I think even the AA have a handyman service that charges stupid money — something like £85 call out and £50+ an hour

I suppose that works, when you have a 2 man job and there is only one of you..

TIFU by sending a cheery "hey, I'm in your area this weekend" Whatsapp message to an old uni friend, but forgot to sign it. I received a short reply of "who is this?".

Oh, the pain of knowing I'm no longer in their contact list.
Probably changed phones. Not everyone syncs their contacts to the cloud. Barbarians, mostly

Good grief that's expensive. I was thinking more of a little card on the notice board at the supermarket, do it for a tenner an item or something like that.
Is there a word for that sinking feeling you get when you start putting dirty stuff into the dishwasher only to realise you didn't empty it first? There should be.
Senility?

Nah, too general.
Kerningpots, I.e. not enough space between them.
Because she leaves the Bluetooth on, sometimes when I come in from a run, the watch dumps all the data straight to MrsA's phone and then it logs it all to her Strava, and not my £50 a year subscription account.
Why have you synced your watch with her phone?
It's her watch. I have to use it as mine went through the washing machine. But the issue clearly doesn't lie with me.
That makes sense, she is being completely unreasonable, you have the high ground for sure.

I would try my luck with Garmin, see if they will exchange it. Your watch, not MrsA.

How dare she use her bluetooth on her phone with her watch. Disgraceful.
Mali has gone full Mali today
Why not simply run with a trundle wheel?
He seems to have managed to get it onto Strava now, but the same one twice.
We had our electricity turned off just after 11am (to put a new board in), so we have no heating, lights or WiFi.

Currently wearing a big fleecy cardigan, covered in blankets and hoping that my laptop battery lasts. :D

Impossible! But they could have been FROZEN in place.

Or both? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_welding

My efforts to free these bottles have proven to be rather counter-productive. I took one out yesterday and saw a large clot of frozen milk on the outside of the bottle. Turns out I'd slightly punctured it as I struggled to extricate it from its frozen prison last month. Oh well.
Don't use D10 spray to clean plasticky things. It degrades the structural integrity.

You win the prize
Dishwasher #1 has an intermittent leak, causing the anti flood to kick in. This isn't a huge issue as dishwasher #2 can easily pull up the slack. However, if #1 keeps this up, I think it'll be replaced, as to turn it into a cupboard might be a hassle.
Because of your Mali-ness I can’t tell if you’re talking about an actual piece of kitchen equipment, or one of your kids.
I'm pretty sure both.

Ours tripped its flood thing the other month just after we had a new boiler that also removed the loft header tank, making everything mains pressure.

*Thankfully* it appears there was a seeping join in the feed that dripped into the dishwasher - since pouring the water out of it there have been no recurrences.
Or LG dishwasher had been making some buzzing noises, which I'd been ignoring. Then on Saturday morning came a BUZZ-POP followed by smoke and a smell of burning, and I could see an ominous looking orange glow and flickering from underneath. It was a little bit on fire and I worried that it might get worse.

I disconnected all the power and and then called the Firies out just to be safe. By the time they got here, it was already out - but I figured it's better to deal with something small than wait and risk having to deal with something much bigger.

So we've bought a new dishwasher, and a fire extinguisher to keep in the kitchen (the only other one we have was in the caravan, so it's accessible but not terribly convenient.
We're all so bourgeois, with our dish washers.

How we've moved on. I can remember when owning a tumble dryer would have got you labelled as posh.

Pretty sure your house burning down would be a problem in most countries, not just first world. .

Yeah but I had to wash up by hand for TWO DAYS in between getting rid of the burnt LG and getting the new one delivered.

This is also peak 1st world in a couple of ways.... it's not the only house we own.
Dickies workwear gets winding up order from parent company

Looks like I'll never get the new work trahziz I've been trying to order from them. I got a pair late in 2020, then ordered another pair that didn't turn up, but got an email from them saying that Parcelforce had returned them and they were refunding me. So I reordered and then got a refund because they were out of stock of my size. And now this. I'll have to try as other brand.
Oh, that's a shame. I've had a pair of overalls from Dickies that have lasted me about 15 years, and I was just thinking I should get a new pair.

Glad I just bought 2 pairs of work dungarees. I wonder if this is part of why they were so hard to get, the brown ones came from Germany.
It seems a strange thing to do, their workwear is what makes their streetwear brand legit really, it's that aesthetic that they go for.
Looks like the've fallen foul of the bean counters who "decided the workwear arm’s business model was out of line with its financial expectations."
Why did I just put dish soap in my new dishwasher?

I know I'm not supposed to do that.

Now there's bubbles all over the floor.

Why?
