Hello!

Pull a bottle of white wine out of the rack.

You're thirsty. You need booze.

But it's room temperature! FUCK.

Grab a kitchen towel, damp it under the tap.

Wrap it round your wine bottle.

Insert in freezer.

You'll have super cold wine in about 10 minutes.

Open, drink, do it again.

What other vital life tricks are out there that people should know?
Freeze sliced lemons to make them last FOREVER!* and make them the perfect G&T accessory.

*until you use them.

Same with fresh ginger/chili/garlic too, prep and blend the buggers and put them in ice cube trays for convenient curry/chili/whatevers.
Y’know when you open a fresh bottle of milk and it has that bit that you peel off under the cap? Once you take it off you can just push that into the bottle cap and it stays there forever.

But have you ever put a garlic cube in your G&T by accident?

But why?

Feex.

They might start tasting a bit odd after that.

They last 2 weeks tops in our house.
Freeze grapes and eat them frozen. Instant grape sorbet.

No, not by accident.

TBF Mrs Fop frequently leaves those lying on the countertop, presumably because she couldn't be bothered walking to the bin. I will give her this Sat-rated tip.
Collect them off the countertop and stuff them into an ice cube tray.
If the power goes out and you can't decide if it's just your house or the whole town, do a quick scan for Wi-fi. If nothing appears, it's a blackout. Use your looting privileges wisely.
Are your mugs so tea-stained you've forgotten what colour the inside was? A few teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda topped up with water will loosen the stains. Coca-Cola works too but is more expensive and more morally dubious.

Or just buy black mugs.

To somewhat back up my "every industry is suspect" claim from a month or two ago:
Quote:
[...] while we can produce baking soda synthetically, we shouldn’t. A procedure known as the Solvay process turns limestone, salt, and ammonia into baking soda, but that comes with a set of environmental hazards: toxic wastewater, higher energy use, and a bigger carbon footprint. Better to go straight to the source.

But what about the mining itself? Doesn’t that have an impact, you might wonder? Well, it’s an extractive industry so … yes, it does. Mining companies use two approaches: In one, room-and-pillar mining (or dry mining), they build vast underground caverns supported by trona [stuff that can be ground to soda ash to make bicarb - Grim...] pillars, then scrape the mineral out of the earth and carry it to the surface with conveyor belts. In the other, solution mining (wet mining), the miners inject hot water deep into the deposits. The trona or nahcolite dissolves, gets pumped to the surface, and evaporates, leaving behind the mineral crystals.

Either way, the whole process uses energy, of course. And it also emits such nasties as volatile organic compounds, nitrogen oxides, and methane. These kinds of mining operations also threaten wildlife habitats worldwide, from flamingos’ stomping grounds in Tanzania to important lands for the sage grouse much closer to home.
Oh. That never even occurred to me.

When you’re getting your arse handed to you, on a plate, I understand that nuking the situation from orbit is a sensible solution.
I think you need to take off first, otherwise the resolution may be suboptimal.

This is genius. Why have I never thought to do this?
I was doing something similar the other day - the main breaker started tripping every 30-45 minutes so I flicked all the individual breakers off and left it with just enough to drive the fridges, freezers, WiFi and heating and went to work - regular checks of the heating via the clown told me I didn't need to rush home.

Weirdly that's not a selling point on the box

do you keep a clown chained up at home, or...?
