I want to make sure Sean Murray has enough money to buy another bag full of lies.
Imagine how much (more) money Hearthly will spend on cars if the local dealers just start slapping 'XBox One X Enhanced' stickers on them.
I got it in a recent sale, tried it for the first time gateau.

Well, Starting on a planet which appears to have no oxygen resources findable using the scanner was... Not the best start.

So far Urr not really grabbed me. Just seems a little fiddly. And then I travelled to a copper deposit on my map with my newly made copper miner...
There was no copper. Only sadness and rock.

Did you enjoy it, cupcake?

Did you dig through the rock? Sometimes it's underground.

By the time I was done with it there was a veritable Swiss cheese style crater, no energy in my copper miner and a perplexed Dave.

Fuck NMS, I'm having this for work.
13+ hours in now and still loving it.

The pace and style of play is perfect for me and Harrison to play through it together - big bonus points for that.
I'm getting a bit peeved with bits that feel a lot like repeated grind work, but that's balanced against tons of fun exploration.
I finally got my base rebuilt (as of 1.53, at least, the mission guidance to get it built again is straightforward.) I'd like to get my farm up and running again to make money, as frigates are mad expensive and I want a fleet. Another thing I want to do is build the three types of upgraded hyperdrive, as I believe you get more exotic planets in those star systems.
Why is Johnny Spaceman so FUCKING SLOW at picking up the larva eggs?!
I started this again although having played thirty odd hours of it previously the changes are great but the the familiar grindy stuff is sapping my will to continue a bit. Anyone who's playing it for the first time on this version has definitely done it right.
It's almost as if preordering games for £50 is a bad idea.
Plenty of people bought NMS before 1.5 not on preorder.

Where did I dispute this?
But the only way to avoid this would have been to not only not preorder this game that I really liked the look of and really wanted to play but then also avoid playing it for two full years just in case it eventually got even better. I'm hardly going to adopt that as a policy. Also I really enjoyed the time I spent with it, sold my original copy (that I'd preordered for £39) for £25 and then bought it again for £9 when the last big update came out.
Another big patch
https://www.nomanssky.com/2018/08/next-patch-1-55/

Some notable balance changes:

* Slightly increased the cost of launch fuel, but made one canister entirely refill the thrusters
* In normal mode, slightly reduced the base rates of hazard and life support fuel usage
* Slightly reduced the radius at which Sentinel drones will investigate players
* Reduced the time required to scan discoveries with the Analysis Visor
* Increased the recharge rate of the jetpack when onboard a Space Station
* Since the release of No Man’s Sky NEXT, farm plants have grown in real-world time (rather than game time), allowing farms to continue growing while you are away from the game. As a consequence, adjusted farming times + prices.
Lots of people peeved about the farming price nerf.

How much is the nerf? I did notice the farming time was wallclock time now, and figured that was OP compared to how it used to be. Frigate missions are the same. In some ways this is preferable, it means I could log on once per day and (pre-nerf) make ~10M in circuit boards and living glass.
It's a pretty big nerf. It makes sense because otherwise you just gather stuff that's grown while offline and sell it for a fortune.
The main reason for it was because NEXT allows you to have as many farms as you like, I think.
Saw this on Reddit. Hadn't realised such fancy base builds were possible. Really do need to spend some proper time with this game. I've always stopped to play something else before it's clicked.

:this:

It just seems to take so long to really get going, which I appreciate is the vibe it's going for in many regards, and I did like a lot of what it seemed to be going for. There's probably a hump to get over whereby you don't just feel like you're mining rocks for oxygen to be able to carry on breathing, but I never got over that hump.

It's the kind of game that had it existed when I were a teenager, I'd probably have lost myself in for weeks on end during school holidays, vying for time only with masturbation.
Oh shit son!

The latest gigantic patch, Beyond, is out. As well as proper multiplayer and full VR support, it has an absolute laundry list of new features and quality of life changes.

Is this worth getting yet?

It looks amazing. It's almost become the game they promised years ago.

I've been reading that the VR implementation is flaky, especially with WMR. Anyone had any experience with it yet?

It certainly wasn't my cup of tea. I felt a bit silly for lashing out BIG CASH on the super XB1X enhanced version, and I bought it after the major update that was supposed to make it all brilliant and stuff.

I'd definitely do some reading up on it before laying out the cash.
Playing it this morning. Managed to encounter a bug that stranded me on one side of a portal with no way back, so had to resort to save editing (booo) in order to able to do anything.

The anomaly station has changed lovely. Lots of new bulbous headed things to talk to. I'm a bit disappointed that you have to faff around with power and wiring in your base if you want a door though.
Itching to try it in VR but wonder if playing without the move controllers would be a bit pooh.
Oh Nummins Kai.. you so bad at updates. Experiencing all kinds of claptrap since the update. Many crashes to desktoppings.
Zardoz wrote:

I've tried it with both because I didn't even realise it could use the move controllers. Flying the ships is way better with the DS4 because motion controllers for joysticks are, always were and always shall be utter gash. But the move controllers are a lot better when on foot but it's still well worth playing without them.

Overall though it's amazing and I can't wait to get stuck in again.
I might have to try this again
Fired this up for another foray into NMS, having twice given up after a couple of hours' play.

I think I need to carry on with it into next week to give it a fair crack of the whip, as remembering how to navigate all the crafting menus etc takes some getting used to. Once it's automatic, it shouldn't bother me too much.

It feels like a lot of busy work at present. But then you hop in your ship and swoop off somewhere else and it's magic.

I'm keen to start building a base somewhere, but feel I need to get past a certain amount of the opening "narrative", which perhaps could be called an extended tutorial, before being able to go off and do my own thing.

Once I've cracked the controls and menus, I think this is going to be a pretty blissed out, relaxing place to be.
And I'm out.

I came to the realisation that 75% of my playtime is inventory management.

I love the flying and exploration aspect, but this constant need to manage the resources in my insanely fiddly inventory means I spend precious little time doing what I enjoy.

Which is a shame.

Also, I made it to the Space Anomaly and some player gave me ~400,000 Iradiated Indium (sic), which was nice of them. But as I'm weak, I couldn't resist selling most of it for a staggering amount of money. So, while I can buy pretty much anything I want, I no longer get any enjoyment from trading.

*Tears up lottery ticket*
There’s an exploration mode or something similar, gets rid of all the resource management stuff.

I looked at that. It's Creative Mode which means unlimited resources, so basically you can go nuts base building. But there are no enemies or fighting, which is part of the fun.

May give it a go at some point however.

"The Comeback", you say? Why would you want it back?
Just started this on Gamepass. There's a lot to do!
Thinking I might be better off going for the PC version. How do they compare, people who've played both?
Depends what PC you’ve got and what console you’ve got and what control scheme you prefer.
I've had a go on KB&M and on balance I think I prefer the pad controls.

I know I'm about 4 years behind the curve here, but this is the sort of game that will eat my life for a few weeks. I was scrabbling in the dirt one minute and then suddenly I'm on a space station. Ace!
And now someone's just given me a freighter worth 39million units.

Which is nice
And now I'm riding a crab.
