were you carrying Carl?

He's one of our best drivers. Just got tangled up in an incident and blew his engine. Took 30 mins to repair and by that point he was 50 laps down.
I was mucking around trying to sort of chromecasting to my tv properly last night, and chose your race as the guinea pig, worked really well and in good quality.

Good job on getting back onto the lead lap, bad job on the restart ;)

It was actually quite interesting to have on in the background!

The reason I got back on the lead lap is because I stayed out to get the wave-around (which is what my engineer told me to do). So I was on really old tyres and everyone else around me had fresh. I had to start in 3rd gear to avoid spinning out. :D
First time in ages I'd been able to compete in the Euro V8 Supercars Championship yesterday (Saturdays aren't usually great for me). Two-hour endurance race at Road Atlanta. I managed to complete 81 laps to finish 10th out of 16, which is an improvement on when we raced at Silverstone earlier in the season and I was 16/17 in both races.

I really got the team racing bug after the World Cup Enduro event and have somehow managed to get a team to take me on for the 24 hours of Daytona in January! Had our first practice tonight in the AMG GT3. I was slowest out of the six of us, but not by a great deal. Should be fun!
This evening I'm participating in "Back Behind the Wheel", a charity V8 Supercars event at Road America to raise money for customised equipment for an ex-race driver/instructor with a major disability in order for him to be able to get involved with iRacing. The target was £1500 and we've just reached it!

Sprint race is at 6:15pm and the feature race is at 7:30pm. You can stream them here if you are so inclined:

If you like you can also donate here: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding ... -the-wheel. Even though the target has been reached, any excess will be used to help other sim racers with physical disabilities.
Battling a former F1 driver in iRacing
Quote:
The worst and most impossible thing has happened. My hands are actually sweating into my Halfords racing gloves. I know it’s absurd to be this worked up over an online race, and to have to wear gloves while sitting at my computer. The thing is, I’m on the grid directly behind Rubens Barrichello. The actual one. The actual F1 driver Rubens Barrichello.

Nah it's him. He's a nice guy.
“The race can’t be won in the first corner, but it can be lost”. I think F1 the past couple of years has proved that to be no longer true :D
So Bagwaa and I entered the Blancpain Endurance Series for the first time today. 1.5 hours around Brands Hatch GP in GT3 cars. We managed to finish 22nd out of 51 teams after I qualified 42nd. Many thanks to Zardoz who designed our team livery.

:metul:

Glad I got it to you in time for the event.
Should run on yellow wheels though.

Yeah maybe. I thought the white would break up the yellow but perhaps not.
If it was an egg.
The first two rounds of the Pen Power Euro V8 Supercars Championship take place at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on Saturday evening. I'm driving in the Apex Racing Academy #26 car and competing for the Amateur Championship. I finished on the Am podium twice last weekend in the Circuit of the Americas warmup races (19th and 18th overall out of 31 competitors).

Feel free to tune in on Saturday - it's being broadcast with live commentary on Apex Racing TV as below:

More information about the series here: http://www.v8esc.com
The iRacing 24 Hours of Daytona starts in a little over an hour's time. I'm driving the Wernä Digital Racing Mercedes AMG GT3 in a team of 3 so it'll be about 8 hours driving each. :o

You can get updates on Twitter here: https://mobile.twitter.com/wdr_simracing
No live steam? Can't you twitch it?
Nothing has a happened since. I think they're having trouble with their Twitter thing.

It's more that our race engineer is also the same person who updates the Twitter feed. :D

I left the car at the end of my second stint in P6 out of 28 in the GT3 class (28th overall I think). Next stint is at 1:20am.
I've just seen the feed. Yeah, that spin happened about 2pm today. He's a bit behind.
Just found out that my friends at Dilligaf Racing are streaming the race from their point of view. Luckily we're both in the same split!

Twitter updates are happening now but they're miles behind. :D
We briefly had 4th but the pit cycles are all out of whack so probably not a true position. Back in 5th now. I am just about to get back in the car.
Still in P5 as I finish my stint. Time for a quick sleep before my last one at 7:30ish.
4th as I'm about to get back in the car for my final stint. 6 hours left!
We are now double-stinting tyres as we sniff a podium!
Our podium ambitions have gone up in a cloud of engine smoke. I just stacked it coming out of the bus stop with about 18 laps left of my last stint. After 19 hours. On lap 632. After I'd taken care of the car almost perfectly for 7 hours and 247 laps. I am a bit gutted.

1 hour of required repairs and it may still not be drivable afterwards. If it is then we still have a shot at the top ten.
Ah, shitty luck, Myp.

What caused it?

I had a backmarker Audi driving really close to me trying to unlap himself as I approached the chicane, was driving in my mirrors a bit, touched the grass on the exit, got loose and turned 90° right, straight into the outer wall on the banking. Engine went boom.

I'll do a video later.
We are back out in P10 with just over 3 hours left.
Is there prize money?
DavPaz wrote:

Not for this competition, no. Just for the fun of it.

Last driver swap now. 1 hour to go!
With 34 mins left we are P10 in the GTD class (out of 28) and P29 overall (out of 56).

Shame I ruined our chances of a better finish, but it's been great fun.
Annnnnd it's over. 24 hours and 737 laps later, we've taken the chequered flag!

Not sure what to do now. Too wired to sleep.

Meaning you ended up in first? Nice!

Well no. Technically everyone takes the chequered flag.
Aw thanks! Please have it engraved with "finished 29th in split 8 of 13"

There's a space underneath when you print it out.

Seriously though. Well done. How long were your stints?

Just under two hours. So two full fuel tanks - roughly 66-69 laps depending how economical you were.

That's why I queried it :) Well done anyway!
