Managed to beat my own best 5K time at lunch today. Got round in 22:34. Happy with that as a 46 year old with gammy knees.
That is mighty handsome.
I am currently a wobbly jelly with the fitness level of Jim Royle

Fucccck, nice one.

Am a long way off my best 5k time at the minute. Just the thought of it makes me :spew:
I've entirely lost my motivation for the usual weight sessions over the last week, but I'm seeing my personal trainer next week for the first time since before the apocalypse so that'll sort me out. Mostly because he'll give me a new set of routines to do at home; having done the same thing for months is almost certainly what's sapping my resolve. I'm really not looking to getting on the 'lie detector*' again though given that the last time I was at the gym I was in pretty good shape (relative to my usual fatness).

*A body composition scanner they have in there which gives you loads of interesting data like muscle mass, body fat %, etc. Fuck knows how accurate it really is but it's interesting nonetheless.
I've always wanted to have a go on one of those!

I have scales that do that, not sure how accurate they are.
I'm 99% sure this is the model that's in my gym:

For £6K it's hopefully decently accurate!

I think the scales are complete tosh, from my understanding, but the actual big body scanners are vaguely more accurate.
According to Strava, I did my fastest ever mile this morning. A blazing 9m 11s! Call Guinness!
The true good news is, I can run a mile without coughing my asthmatic lungs up at the side of the road!
Excellent work, it feels good doesn't it. If not at the time then at least when you finish.
That is brilliant.. Well done Sir.

It is starting to feel better. I've had a long break during lockdown, but I've got more opportunities to run now.

Thanks bud. No Triathlons in my future, yet :D
Nice work, well done.

Thanks mate. No on your level yet, either. Not by a long way
I need to get back into it, but this work stuff has me not really wanting to leave the house at the moment

yet!! I never thought I would do them.

My brick last night nearly killed me 20k bike and 5k run.. but then the quiz :)
Went out for a long steady run yesterday and ended up doing a half marathon or as near as dammit. Slightly annoyingly I stopped the clock a just few paces short because I thought it was 13 miles but it's actually 13.1. Felt good, though.
Doesn't count, get back out there and do it again ;)

Well done dude :D
I think it is one of my last rides of the year outside. We did 75km. We saw castles and ducks.
Been going out running before breakfast each weekday morning. 3km to go to tip over 100km in the month. I think this is a record for me. I am quietly pleased (clearly not - Ed), my pace is significantly up, and am considering a 10km over the weekend extending it to 21km if it feels OK. 10 mile race at end of Feb looking achievable at present.
Yeah noticed your pace getting faster. Just don't ramp the mileage too quickly or you might end up experiencing a frustrating setback. I've been fighting some hip/thigh issues for the last month or so after I went out and just ran a half marathon distance rather than building up to it properly. Getting back on top of it now after easing back on the mileage a bit, also started doing some strength and stretching, foam rolling and stuff after runs and on rest days. Definitely works all that.
Cheers, yeah, I'll watch out for that and build up a bit.

I really bad for doing a few stretches as a warm up, and a warm down doesn't exist, save for making a cup of tea and a hot shower. I have had a read about foam rollers, might look into it.

Stretching always seems controversial - I think the latest is; don't bother, unless you're doing active stretches (so moving, like walking lunges). But it changes - doing a few, vaguely, is probably worse than, say, walking for 5 minutes before you get going.
Yeah, JBR is right about the latest advice. In fact, I was reading something the other day about how a bit of stiffness at the start of a run is a good thing because it's protective - i.e. stops you going too fast, too soon, allowing you to ease into your pace. I thought that was quite interesting. Can't for the life of me remember where I read that though.

That said, I do (when I'm not skiving and being shit) a lot of deep/long hold stretches because it feels like it helps my lifting (where range of motion is more important).
My Coach always says to do a warm run, so a very slow jog for 5 mins, get everything moving then up the pace to what you want to be running at..

Stretching after works... well that is the advice I am going on..
Weighed myself yesterday and I've dropped a stone this year. Just from running and making an attempt to curb my biscuit problem.
That's good going!

I think i'm slightly over what I was at the start of the year weight wise.
I don't know what I weigh at the minute because I have bigger priorities but I'm currently a few weeks into a hypertrophy block in my powerlifting program and loving how it's making my muscles (upper body in particular) look. Finally look like I actually lift, hah. :DD
Waiting for my cycle to work voucher, then I can order -

Either the blue or the red, I can't decide.
Ordered these up. Commits me for another 400 miles.
Unless you become, somehow...

Brooks number 7. Very nice
I got some new shoes from my lovely wife for Christmas. Decided to have a change from Nike Vomeros as I've been buyng those for years. So went to a running shop where I could try a load out on the treadmil and came out with these:

They just felt the best out of all of them for me, fairly wide in the toe area and just had a really nice feel. Done a few miles in them now and liking them more each time.
They look ace.
We got some of those when we were in the US last year. So light and comfortable!

Love these. Smashed a fastest mile and 2km, then my body said "mate, you've had two weeks of large ones" and slowed down to squeak inside a 25 min 5km which includes walking a bit as I felt I was gonna heave my heart into my lungs and out my nose.
Good stuff. New shoes are great. I'm going for 1000 miles this year. I did about 1250km last year so hopefully it's a modest enough target. Aiming to get out and run in some different places as well.
I’m going to try running this year. The gym closing has meant my exercise has slumped. Glad I’ve kept my fell walks going through 2020 though.
You probably could be quite fast if you got into it, you gangly fucker.
New shoes bounce! A few days off, and I just was three (count 'em) seconds off my fastest 5km at 24:23. The half way point was really slippery and congested with people, I reckon I might be able to do 24:15
POW! The shoes have delivered a strava best time of 50:52 over 10km. Hurrah!

And a best of 23:22 over 5km last week
