Skyler demanding Walt kills off Jesse.. And Marie googling poisons.. and Hank being OK with sacrificing Jesse too.. Taken in isolation, Hank isn't the baddest guy around for a change!

Without a doubt, but I still don't see him as 'totally' the bad guy (note the 'totally' bit).

I'm not saying I condone who he's become or what he's doing, but I can understand it to an extent.

There are certainly far more evil motherfuckers than Walter White as politicians and CEOs and in all manner of other positions of power, I'd condemn them before I condemn Walt.

Many many parallels with End Times from season 4, especially if you compare the endings. I wonder if Walt is going to lose his 'face' next episode.

And yeah, for now, Walt is the only good guy left, he's poisoned almost everyone else against him. All he wants to do is talk, but things are far beyond that now.
I caught up with 3 episodes this weekend. I can't just watch one episode at a time I need at least 2 or 3 to fill me up.

Apparently on the Breaking Bad podcast, they confirmed that they did film Jesse's entire confession to the DEA, him retelling the entire story of Breaking Bad up to that point, and it will be included in the DVD extras.
Finally caught up and am now enjoying a spoilers binge :)

what day do new episodes pop up on Netflix? (sorry if this has been covered)

Monday.
Watched the second of the new episodes last night.

I'm honestly not saying this to be antagonistic, but I want Walt to win, I really do.
I still want him to win, I want him to overcome any obstacle in his way, and for him to beat any rivals he has left, but I want it to cost him greatly to do so.

It's obvious he beats the cancer as he has hair and is older in the hello carol bit

No, that just means he's stopped having chemotherapy, surely.

He's coughing all the time in those scenes.

Yeah I think that's about the size of it, at the end of the day there's still going to be his family left and they'll need cash to live the rest of their lives out.

I dunno if we're supposed to empathise with Walt or not at this late stage, but I can't help but think 'Fucking hell Walt the shit you've been through to get to here, you gotta get away with the cash, or at least pass it on to your family.'

Plus I don't think Hank is an angel either.

They've already got more than enough to live the rest of their life!

and hank gets on my tits.
And what happened to his rock obsession.
Heh, not sure I see the significance though, Lewie.
Hank is an interesting character. He's clearly actually quite a good cop, even if he doesn't seem all that bright sometimes. He's got no problem breaking the rules (smoking cuban cigars, beating up jesse, some of the harsher stuff he's done in recent episodes), but his sense of right and wrong is clearly very tied up in his job.
Right up to date now, and DESPERATELY WISHING I'D STUCK TO MY ORIGINAL PLAN OF WAITING UNTIL SEASON 5 WAS ALL UP THERE BEFORE STARTING ON THE SECOND HALF OF IT.

At least with the DVD boxsets for Seasons 1-4 I could just stay up too late and watch another episode or two.

Whilst I feel slightly manipulated the blackness in Walt's heart is now becoming more apparent, and yet at the same time he's clearly not all evil, he just isn't. Seeing the ruin he's made of Jesse is sobering of course, but then again Jesse wasn't much of anything before Walt came along anyway, so you could argue Walt hasn't really fucked things up for him too much. On top of that Hank is looking flakier by the day and determined to push his 'cause' come what may whatever the costs.

In fact, with Skyler's attitude to murder changing towards 'not always a bad thing' and Saul being the beast he always has been (albeit a fucking fantastically written beast), I'm starting to think that I want everyone to fucking die apart from Junior and Holly, and they escape with all the money.

Even Jesse's gone murderous now, by misreading a situation when Walt really was trying to do ABSOLUTELY FUCKING ANYTHING except kill him.

Now yes you could argue that it's Walt who led everyone to these dark places anyway, but therein lies the point perhaps, to an extent every character has embraced the horror that's consumed them.

It's an astounding narrative on the human condition, I think.
I can't help but feel my interest is waned a slight, tiny amount by not being able to watch several episodes in a row. This is what ruined Lost for me, as I'd caught up by the time Season 6 came around.
I agree I like watching my TV shows with at least 2 or 3 episodes at a time. I did break this week & watch the latest episode because it is such a good show.

That is the one show I will miss because it is a long wait for DVD/Blu-Ray releases. Shame it is on Sky 1, I must find out some way of how to view this when the new season starts.

Ack, what a total fuck-up. Deffo should have waited.
The programme would be better if the theme tune was more Dog the Bounty Hunter-styled.

'AH SAID AH'M BREAKING BAYYYD!'
Is Walter White a bad guy?

I don’t look at him and wonder how he got there. I know exactly how he got there. I’m not rooting for him, but I am pulling for him. I guess it’s a fine line between condemnation and hoping for redemption.

Pajiba and Film School Rejects are both great film/telly websites, by the way.
Serious question: what is the difference between rooting and pulling?
A couple of glasses of wine.

Root is another term for fuck.
I've been on a Breaking Bad binge catching up over the last few weeks and I'm now up to Season 5 episode 7.

Agree with everything so far (well apart from the people that couldn't get on with it - broken the lot of you) and have been avoiding spoilers where possible so this may have already been mentioned but it's further evidence of the level of detail that is dropped into every episode. I've been listening on my wireless headphones because I get better sound out of them and can have things up nice and loud and noticed...

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Jesse came round to Walt's house and ended up staying for a completely non tense spot of dinner with Skylar but while Walt and Jesse were talking I could hear the ticking in the background. This ties back to Mike saying Walt is a ticking timebomb and the watch and everything but it's so small and had I not been listening on headphones I probably wouldn't have heard it but you can absolutely guarantee it's been put there on purpose.

Beyond good and I shall certainly be splurging on the box set when it's all done to pick up on all the other incidental detail I may have missed first time round.
Haha, yup I've always said it's worth listening to on decent speakers, nice and loud. I love all the ambient noise, especially on desert-y episodes. WIDE.

Oh my. Hank and his partner gonna die? I presume walt gets away, then cooks for them once then goes on the run leading us to the flashforwards? Only 3 left now! :(

My interpretation is that 'rooting' suggests you're basically behind Walt as he is and just want him to win without any questions asked, whereas 'pulling' implies that you don't think he's totally beyond redemption and can still see an end to it all where he's alive, but that he really needs to change some shit around and suffer some consequences between now and then.

Hmmm, bit of an 'A-Team' ending to that episode - how did nobody get hit?

Ridiculous.

What's with all these cliffhanger endings? Breaking Bad is better than that. They didn't need to resort to this kind of stupid tricks. Now if Hank and Gomez die, wouldn't be much more powerful to end the scene after the fire fight?? Just imagine how "that" scene in Game of thrones would go if the episode ended before all the stabbings

Still, pretty memorising stuff but yeah, could have done without

the first ten seconds or so of shooting where no one hits anyone else despite having had about five minutes to aim at each other.

I am, I have to say, feeling slightly manipulated by Season 5 in a way I haven't by any of the previous four seasons, y'know, just a little bit like the characters aren't quite chiming right somehow.

That's ace, shame we win see it or another year, as interest may have waned by then.
If they can get it out for 2014 Sept then that'll be ok.
