Also, are you sure your PC is up to it?
Due to the unique way it's coded, MineCraft batters the fuck out of most PCs.
Aaah, it's a relief to hear that Minecraft is inefficiently coded, even on PCs. Minecraft is the only application that has ever forced the cooling fans to kick in on my once-badass iMac.
I've had it close itself down with a message that it's run out of memory and it didn't want to corrupt my world (I was playing around with the graphics options).
This is on a PC with 12GB of RAM. (And yes I know it'll only use 1.5GB for itself, and yes I know it's probably some dreadful inefficiency in the Java engine. But even so.)
It's strange though, a bit like watching a really good film on a really shitty old VHS tape, your brain just 'adjusts' and it looks fine. Objectively the graphics are fucking appalling, but once you're into the game world, it doesn't matter.
Hearing the monsters snuffling around outside during the night time is surprisingly creepy, like a hero I went back out at the crack of down, and managed to get some baddy to burn to death in the rising sun as I strafed around him (he was firing arrows at me, I managed to steal some arrows after he'd died).
