Hope this goes well, it's lovely to see the enthusiasm.

Just reading about a Lego re-creation of a related game. Have some heroes:

So on that D&D beyond site I've created most of a character, but what do I do on the abilities page? It's not exactly jumping out as obvious.
Huh, the creator does a duff job of telling you what to do there. I used "Manual" and used the "roll 4d6, drop the lowest" method described here - https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic ... lityScores

There's a bit in each class description that describes what classes should have high scores in which abilities, and CONSTITUTION is always handy.
Still need to choose my Druid Circle!

Now, do I go for Circle of the Land and be a rounded helpful Druid or Circle of the Moon and boost my shape shifting bezerkazoid side...

MOON DRUID!!!
Ivo, somewhat confused Novice in the Church of Xunt the Shatterer.

Boring character building suggestions: Zardoth hasn't equipped his shield, armour or weapon - you can do that in the "Equipment" bit. Have people picked a "Background" in the "Description" section? It's worth doing as it gives you some proficiencies and some largely useless equipment.

I've updated! Still can't see where I can choose my Druidic Circle though.
Don't get to choose to your circle till level 2, i think!

Ah right. HOW LONG TILL I LEVEL UP?!!!
I’ll have a look at the character sheets tomorrow between meetings. Or during meetings if they get boring.

If you’re a spell caster, make sure the ability you spell cast with is one of your highest stats. I think Druids cast with wisdom, as do clerics. Wizards use intelligence. Sorcerers and bards both use charisma I think? It should tell you in the basic rules, I’m not nearby my PHB right now.

Zardoth (level1) awaits!
I'll 'do' the rest of the party x
Ermintrude (level 1) approaches!
Awesome! Love the multiple spikes :DD
Oh man. Having a Zardoodle makes me want to play :D

I imagine Mimi's character being the most cut-throat, pitiless, stab-you-in-the-back, looting corpses and stealing from orphans, out-for-themselves assassin imaginable, as she seems to be exactly not that in real-life

Glad you got my two orange spiked ball protectors in there.
Ivo Zook (level1) emerges!
Love it! The Spooky Tentacle background is a really nice touch.

He's got crazy high Charisma, which I am picturing as manifesting via a sort of well-intentioned but utterly overwhelming intenseness, like the sort of person who backs you into a corner at a party and then won't shut up about Blockchain. He looks pretty scary with that hammer, but he's soooo puny there's a good chance he won't hurt you, even if he does manage to hit you with it. He is, however, psychic and can drive you insane with nothing more than the force of his will.
:D

C'mon t'others! Get rolling them characters.

Yeah, I wanna see the rest of the gang!
Oh my god this was the best decision of my life :metul:

I’ve been messing around with roll 20 so I think I’ll use it as the platform, I just need to check it supports voice only as well as video. If we can use that instead of Zoom it will be better because then I can play atmospheric music! All my geeky dreams are coming true.
Thanks for setting this up sdg! I'm looking forward to playing!

I quite often play "Atmospheric DnD background sounds" whilst i work, it can be quite nice to check your emails to the sound of an enchanted wood or buzzing tavern :))
Roll20’s voice/video support is famously bad. I would suggest you use it for everything else, but use zoom/discord/whatever for the comms.
I've ordered a webcam so you can gaze upon my shitness.

I'm making some adjustments, should be up tomorrow morning

Good to know, thanks. Atmospheric music doesn’t work on zoom, what about discord?
You could try Syrinscape which allows a certain amount of spooky music sharing for free., i think.
A smart-arsed side quest doling NPC emerges because he's sick of waiting for bloody bards.
Mine is almost done

My concern is if the communication app will support transmitting the audio from a different app even while others are speaking. It's not a big issue to be honest, something for me to find out as we go.

The couple of times I've successfully strong armed friends and family into playing a one shot I've used Lego minifigs as the PCs and NPCs. I've got a decent stack from the Star Wars and Harry Potter Lego advent calendars and I ordered an extra random assortment. They work brilliantly! Maybe even too good in one instance when I used them at the games shop when I was running an Adventure's League game. The party came across a crashed airship and were supposed to see an NPC die then be ambushed by some baddies but they were so taken with the Minifig, what was supposed to be an inconsequential NPC only there to show the threat of the baddies became super important to them to the point the Cleric burned a couple of heal spells keeping them alive and the whole party put themselves in way more risk than was planned because they were dead set on keeping the guy alive. I ended up having to come up with a nearby army camp for them to drop him off at or I think we'd have been lumbered with him for the rest of the long jungle adventure. They only agreed to let him go because the army camp convinced them they had a unit leaving for the city that was a few days hike away and they were well armed. That's what I get for choosing a minifig with a smiley face and a jaunty hat :smug:
That's absolutely brilliant! :DD

We've used syrinscape for spooky noise and zoom for voice / video chat, and it's worked pretty well so far.

I like this chap for ambient noises - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUGy8G ... 9awX4FSqBw

Not sure how easy would be to share though...

Discord definitely allows it with an addon of some kind, the last game I was in the DM setup an ambient sound channel that he controlled, but each player could set the volume of it independantly
What's everyone doing for lighting? Can we link our smoke machines too?

Lockdown is making it very hard for the costume department to work closely with my stunt coordinator. If make-up needs me, I'll be in my trailer.
