iOS gaming thread
Game Center names in 1st post

Following discussion in the iPhone thread, we iOS users think we need a "software" thread that covers iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad equally. The older threads can then be more about hardware and stuff. Sound reasonable?

I'm going to go one further, and make two threads: one for games and one for apps. This is the gaming thread.

Beex master partial list of Game Center usernames

(Where username is different, the first one is the Beex name and the second the Game Center tag. Where it's the same I've just listed it once.)

If you haven't bought Phoenix Wright yet then please do. In fact I'll even consider gifting it to you. I bought it on the DS and it's a damn fine conversion with great humour.

I wish they'd make the sequels for iOS.
SCREW YOU! THE MAN WON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO!!!

If I could think of an app to talk about, I would talk about it now, in here, right in front of your face...

I haven't, on grounds I've previously completed the first three or four on the DS. It could be due for a replaying though.

I imported them due to the idiots including the American translation in the Japanese releases, so I could get them cheaper, and three-four months earlier.

I would say that if you haven't played them since they came out you'll remember the overall arc of the story, but not have enough recall to be bored waiting for a certain bit to come up so you can present the evidence.

It's like playing them again for the first time.
Game Dev Story - hyper-addictive (but only for about a week) game studio sim thing now has Game Center achvs if you fancy replaying it.

I saw that, I was very disappointed that it didn't retrofit my achievements :(
did world of goo now have an iphone version ready?
yeah Goo's out I think. According to LewieP's twitterings.

Cave recently had a 50% thing going on. Two good games but that Bug Panic thing isn't so good.

My hot tips for goodness;

Axe In Face

Sand Slides (although it's all dirty with adverts now, the fucking thing - I'm sure I paid for it as well back when it first showed up)

Slingo Supreme

PvZ

The Creeps (almost flawless tower defence game, slightly ruined by tilt-controls for your super powers).
This is already not working. Far more suited to a Wiki or some shit.

It does, yeah. There's a normal version and an HD one.
Only 59p for the rest of the day too.
We should close the forum in favour of a wiki.

We're already having too much fun.
I hate kami retro (game of the month for slide to play)

Whoa whoa whoa! Wrong thread dude, wrong thread!

Shall we start the thread again?
Obligatory Drop7 recommendation.

Wanna build an "app mini-review database"? Fields of app name, platform, version, reviewer name, review. Reviews capped at tweet length or slightly longer. Searchable by app name and displays opinions of multiple beexers when viewing an app (with a footnoted version number to point out stale reviews).

I tell you what, if you make a iGaming site with multiple user contributions in the style of metacritic multiple 'scores'/reviews I'll be all over that like a rash.
CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!

Spec me a bit harder.
well, to make it useful, if i twitter @beexgamingwikidude World of goo is lovely, it should be in the wiki, if @beexgamingwikidude follows me
As an iPhone gamer
I want a website for game reviews that isn't shit
So that I can find groovy new games to play

Write your own user stories :p

This above para from the Doc got me excited.

So you've got constant updates because a game will scroll into a news feed every time someone adds a score to it, plus you can then access the original 'game/app' with all scores/reviews at the bottom.
Ooh gaming thread

I'm currently playing Sword & Poker on my ipod

Squee. The beauty is that more writers can mean more updates can be more people led to the forum.
1. Exciting!

2. Go go Grim...

3. Interestingly there is a iPhone/iPod version of World of Goo just released, but they've also made the iPad version universal so it works on the iPhone now too. Neato.

4. iPad (only) game of the moment (based on that thread I had yesterday is Viking Lords

Which is an excellent, polished clone of an excellent board game. Looks far nicer than the screenshots suggest too. Basically, it's a war game where you have a bunch of units split into the left, middle and right sections of the board. You draw cards that let you activate units and play one each turn. So not only is there strategy of a normal battle game, but also when you use powerful cards (Activate 2 units in each region | activate all green units) and when you use rubbish ones (activate 2 in the left channel.)

Recommended.

Absolutely. We've got a history of outstanding success in driving forum visits through external projects.

This stands to be the most popular project thus far though, no?

Short reviews means not a lot of effort needed, plus there's a lot of us who have these devices and lots of people who want to read about stuff ON these devices.

One Single Life is out. A game where you get a single life, and then get locked out of the game. It is free.

Yeah, I know. I was being snarky.
If this place turns into an Apple circlejerk, then I'm leaving.

Then coming back two days later.

"Platform" as in "iOS, Android, whatever loser platform Craster is using these days, etc".

If you only want twitter length reviews from me then I can dooooooo that. I buy so much iOS stuff its a little worrying.
We're debating the length cap on reviews. I'm leaning towards 255 characters.
This is a brilliant idea, but don't we need a different thread for it?

I'd be willing to review android stuffs.
2^8 - 1 rather than 2^8? Some back end reason for that, or you just want to wind up math nerds?

But yeah, the smaller the better.

Maybe when it's done. Let's not get carried away.

Dr Lave wrote:

We think that 140 is a little too small, and 255 is the next most likely number, and is fractionally more efficient for the SQL server.

Get your own site, hippy. And make it open source, natch.

I have to wait for yours to be finished so I can copy it, add a green robot and links to porn.
I have only a vague notion of what is going on, but is this thread/other thing only for gaming apps, as per the thread title, or all apps?
Never mind, just saw the other thread.

Make sure you rebuild it every day, and have a different version for every browser!

Gotta say, 140 chars is really tough much of the time when I'm doing iPhoneTiny reviews, so going for a bit more space is a sensible decision.
Every time I tweet impressions of a game I use more than one tweet.
