The screenshots make it look like middle-series Red Dwarf, or maybe Dr Who.
Silence, heathen!
Ok.

These will be as good as if not better than the first two cult classic films.
You think Alien and Aliens are cult classics?
Yeah. Don't you?

How many variations on "isolated group of humans encounter Xenomorphs; most die; some escape; the existence of Xenomorphs continue to be unknown to humanity at large" can be repeated within the Alienverse?

I don't think they're liked by a particular group of people, which is my understanding of what a cult classic is.

It's all right, Scott is explaining all that with the prequels!

Is the answer "the engineers put a DNA weakness in us that makes us forget about the xenomorphs minutes after we last saw one"?

I mean, to paraphrase Wilde: to narrowly escape from a hellish murderous alien species once and then somehow fail to warn humanity is misfortune; but to do it repeatedly starts to become foolish.
"Alien me once, shame on aliens; Alien me ten times, shame on us."

Probably a few more.... but yes it can seem a bit formulaic when repeated too often.

I'm not fully up to speed with all the Alien 'Universe' films, I've seen many of them but not all.

At risk of sounding like I'm trying to defend something....

Wasn't there a bit about sinister companies / governments wanting to use the xenos as weapons or for their own benefit (in Aliens, and Prometheus, and possibly some others), so they'd be actively controlling and severely limiting the information spread so they could carry on sending out poor saps to get themselves all in a pickle.

Also, just like in real life, a lot of warnings go unheeded I guess. After all "It'll never happen to me"
One of the shorts: Specimen

Sats verdict: ok ... I guess.

Another one: Containment

Sat’s verdict: Worse. Also, pointless. Also “actors”.

Also, it ends with “Written by...” written what? There’s fuck all here.
Quote:
Alien: Containment – Four survivors find themselves stranded aboard a small escape pod in deep space. Trying to piece together the details around the outbreak that led to their ship's destruction, they find themselves unsure to trust whether or not one of them might be infected. Written and directed by Chris Reading.

If this was the aim of the short, it failed entirely.

Critical super-tense moment interrupted by a "your video will continue after the advert" advert for the iPhone set in a brightly-lit cafe.

Oh well, I quite enjoyed it anyway. :)
Alien: Night Shift ???

Please oh please tell me this stars Henry Winkler and Michael Keaton as disgruntled Weyland-Yutani morgue workers startled to discover that an infestation of face-huggers are ruining their plans to find hot dates for the evening.
Right, I’ve watched Alien: Night Shift and it’s shit. Seriously, what’s the point of these fucking things if all they’re going to do is antagonise the fans.

I mean, that already seems like a pretty cool reason.

If you haven't listened to them, the existing Alien audio plays on Audible are very good. The lady that does Ripley's voice is uncanny.
Happy Alien Day!
Bah, they don't make 'em in my size.
They barely make them in adult sizes :(
40th anniversary of the best Ayleon this year and Neca have some new action figures for later in the year:

Available from Forbidden Planet, natch.

It's only a bloody Ayleon!

There's even an expensive coin, if you are so inclined

41st, surely?
By the time those come out it would be the 41st. At the moment it's still the 40th.

I never knew they wore winkle pickers.
That sounds spot on. I'll always watch the theatrical version as there's too much padding in the extended version, but I like the scenes they've picked to retain.

Well, that's my next week's nerdistry sorted.
