I got a small Afro Caribbean kid giphy for Robert. Call my bluff was a bit more appropriate

Ah, I almost watched that the other night, but ended up watching a documentary on Johnston & Gill Sans typefaces :D

Also, I want to call them fonts because they are so widely known as fonts, but every single program I have ever watched always starts with some snug ‘I know more than you*’ bit where they tell you that you are wrong, because the font is the size and weight, which many people know but aren’t tedious dicks about. So, anyway, that was good. Quite shocking in places (incest... and someone having sex with a pet dog...) but aside from that very interesting.

*Also, the presenter keeps on telling me that I never notice or do not recognise things, which is pretty condescending because I do. I’m pretty sure a fair section of people watching documentaries on typefaces might.

No Idea, who presented that, but I'm going to play guess the presenter based on Mimi's description.

I have opted for Giles Coren.

No. I don’t know if I’d actually have watched it if it was presented by Giles Coren, the detestable little fleck of mandruff.
How about Giles Brandreth?
Giles Coren is a massive wanker. His sister seems pretty nice though.
Except for the gambling addiction.

Gyles Brandreth is an odd one. I feel like I should dislike him, former Con MP and all that, but as I don’t know his personal voting record and policies, etc, nor of any specifics, I find him quite funny, engaging, interesting, and obviously full of good jumpers.

Hmm. Now, I kind of love her but also read a couple of her books years ago and found her a bit slimy then. But I also adore her.
Slimy, but adorable.

I think that sums her up quite nicely.
I'm quite keen on Vienna Blood but Mrs. W thinks it's on a par with Murdoch Mysteries, which I personally think is unwatchable.
Big Fat Quiz of the Year (Boxing Day) has Noel Fielding on it.

We just watched the CBeebies closing song and amongst the kids' TV stars going to sleep we saw Big Bird. Consider us confused.

Maybe a tribute as he’s recently passed away? Also, I think Big Bird was on at least one episode of Furchester Hotel.
Is there anything essential on terrestrial tv this Christmas?

Christmas Carol at a push. Guy Pearce, Stephen Graham. There's also a mark gattis ghost thing, so Martin's close.

Some people would say "Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special," but I'm not one of them.

I really enjoyed it.
Me too.

Proper belly laughed a couple of times
It just annoys me. I want to give Smithy a slap he won't wake up from.

I've not watched any of G&S, so it feels a little late to start.
We seem to be sticking with Netflix, Amazon & Apple streaming services, and a bunch of films.
I watched The Limehouse Golem on the Beeb iPlayer last night. Wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. Olivia Cooke. Oh, I do like her. Couldn't work out where I'd seen her before, but found it was Vanity Fair when I googled her. She was very good in that and very good in this, as the abused child who made it as a music hall star and then married a journalist/fan who wanted to "save her." A little gory in places, but not enough to put me off. Bill Nighy was great as the detective trying to find the murderer and also trying to prove that Olivia's character hadn't committed a murder herself. Great unexpected twist at the end.

Recommended.
Is that a new BBC thing? I’m sure I’ve seen something with that exact storyline once before.
We finished watching the BBC Christmas Carol adaptation last night. Despite misgivings throughout the first episode from classic story/character deviations we ended up really enjoying it. The ‘salvation’ was realistic, understandable, and the characters motivations understandable. I didn’t think I was going to appreciate them moving from the traditional figures of the ghosts (the jolly and rapidly ageing Father Christmas character of the ghost of Christmas Present, as an example), but actually they all worked very well.

We watched the Ghost Story for Christmas for 2919, and I was saddened that I didn’t enjoy it. The acting was hackneyed and the script stunted, and honestly I just found it a bit irritating compared to stories from previous years.

No, it's a film.

Ahhhhhh. That’s probably how I’ve seen it, then.
New Wurzel Gummage is great.
I am probably late to the party.

I really enjoyed the Witcher.
I did too. It was really good.
Not surprised as it’s very high on the Craster scale.
The Trial of Christine Keeler, new on the Beeb starting last night, is looking good.

I was 9 when this all blew up and therefore not very interested in the story of the "prostitute" who was sleeping with both our Secretary of State for War and a Russian spy. I remember that she and Mandy Rice-Davis were painted in a very bad light by the press and over the years the story's been revived several times, but the basic tenets didn't change.

From the first episode, it seems that all was not as it was originally reported, and that neither Christine nor Mandy were hookers, though they were promiscuous. She was certainly naïve but not stupid, or interested in politics, and it appears that she was unlucky in her relationships resulting in her getting swept up in a scandal in circumstances very much oiut of her control.

Deffo looking forward to see how this develops.
Dracula on the BBC is fucking brilliant. A really original take with some perfectly executed Hammer vibes thrown in too. Fangtastic!

I'll have to give this a go. I've always enjoyed the novel, despite its many flaws, particularly its misogony. Admittedly when I was 12 I don't think I picked up on its overt sexual undertones.

That’s good to hear, I’ll give it a go after His Dark Materials (only one ep in so far).
I didn't think it was very good at all, and turned it off after about an hour....
James May in Japan is quite entertaining and interesting viewing. The North Island looks amazing, and freed from the usual character, he is good at this sort of thing.
The Reassembler is peak James May. I haven't seen the end of an episode yet as it's so soothing I generally fall asleep
Yeah, it's the best thing he's ever done by far.
I've watched the first two episode of Dracula and guess what?

I thought it was a bit pap. It did seem to drag on a bit.

I really enjoyed the first two episodes, didn't like the 3rd one, felt it really let the mini series down. And no it wasn't just because of

the jump forward in time.

Just off the top of my head the below is what bothered me most about episode 3
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Why didn't Lucy get "better" after drinking? Why was Dracula looking good after 100 years in the coffin? What was the point of Lucy's boyfriend/Zoe's assistant? Why would you give Dracula an internet enabled tablet? Why did they think they had gone to the new word, when they were in London? Why did Dracula have a window covered by a single curtain if he was that worried about the sunlight. And then why did he want to die just because he found out his weaknesses were all in his mind? Surely that would unleash him on the daytimeworld?

Seems Praisebot is in need of a New Year reboot.

This is the 2020 gritty reboot

Yup, episode three reeked of the writing of Steven Moffat at his worst. It felt like an episode of Dr Who but with the doctor missing. Serious plot problems throughout. A pity, because we quite enjoyed episodes one and two.
I finished Dracula.

The last episode was so bad that it ruined the first one being OK and the second being a bit dull.

Rubbish.

The last episode felt like it was dragged out to 90 minutes kicking and screaming. There was a nice call-back to the Hammer Horror of Dracula when Dolly Wells ran along the table and dragged the curtains down, though.
Has anyone else seen any of The Masked Singer? I kind of want confirmation that it was real, and not the result of me suffering some sort of brain injury or accidentally ingesting some mescalin. Seeing someone in a Duck costume with a pointy bra sing "Like a Virgin" to Davina McCall and Ken Jeong was really quite odd. I did like the wild improbability of the panel's guesses though - yeah, I'm sure Idris Elba is going to dress up like a Unicorn and sing "Babooshka".
I saw the first couple of acts, and then turned it off. Who did they turn out to be?

1st Episode was great, 2nd not so much, 3rd was great for the time setting, just felt rushed.

One was Patsy Palmer... I saw a minute or two of it as I was turning the TV on to put Netflix on. It seemed really quite bizarre.

The Butterfly was Patsy Palmer, the Pharoah was Alan Johnson, formerly Her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for the Home Department. You only get to see one person a show! That's what makes it so exciting!
