I've not watched any of G&S, so it feels a little late to start.
We seem to be sticking with Netflix, Amazon & Apple streaming services, and a bunch of films.
I watched The Limehouse Golem on the Beeb iPlayer last night. Wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. Olivia Cooke. Oh, I do like her. Couldn't work out where I'd seen her before, but found it was Vanity Fair when I googled her. She was very good in that and very good in this, as the abused child who made it as a music hall star and then married a journalist/fan who wanted to "save her." A little gory in places, but not enough to put me off. Bill Nighy was great as the detective trying to find the murderer and also trying to prove that Olivia's character hadn't committed a murder herself. Great unexpected twist at the end.

We finished watching the BBC Christmas Carol adaptation last night. Despite misgivings throughout the first episode from classic story/character deviations we ended up really enjoying it. The ‘salvation’ was realistic, understandable, and the characters motivations understandable. I didn’t think I was going to appreciate them moving from the traditional figures of the ghosts (the jolly and rapidly ageing Father Christmas character of the ghost of Christmas Present, as an example), but actually they all worked very well.
We watched the Ghost Story for Christmas for 2919, and I was saddened that I didn’t enjoy it. The acting was hackneyed and the script stunted, and honestly I just found it a bit irritating compared to stories from previous years.

I was 9 when this all blew up and therefore not very interested in the story of the "prostitute" who was sleeping with both our Secretary of State for War and a Russian spy. I remember that she and Mandy Rice-Davis were painted in a very bad light by the press and over the years the story's been revived several times, but the basic tenets didn't change.
From the first episode, it seems that all was not as it was originally reported, and that neither Christine nor Mandy were hookers, though they were promiscuous. She was certainly naïve but not stupid, or interested in politics, and it appears that she was unlucky in her relationships resulting in her getting swept up in a scandal in circumstances very much oiut of her control.

Dracula on the BBC is fucking brilliant. A really original take with some perfectly executed Hammer vibes thrown in too. Fangtastic!

I'll have to give this a go. I've always enjoyed the novel, despite its many flaws, particularly its misogony. Admittedly when I was 12 I don't think I picked up on its overt sexual undertones.

I didn't think it was very good at all, and turned it off after about an hour....
James May in Japan is quite entertaining and interesting viewing. The North Island looks amazing, and freed from the usual character, he is good at this sort of thing.
The Reassembler is peak James May. I haven't seen the end of an episode yet as it's so soothing I generally fall asleep

Yup, episode three reeked of the writing of Steven Moffat at his worst. It felt like an episode of Dr Who but with the doctor missing. Serious plot problems throughout. A pity, because we quite enjoyed episodes one and two.

The last episode felt like it was dragged out to 90 minutes kicking and screaming. There was a nice call-back to the Hammer Horror of Dracula when Dolly Wells ran along the table and dragged the curtains down, though.
Has anyone else seen any of The Masked Singer? I kind of want confirmation that it was real, and not the result of me suffering some sort of brain injury or accidentally ingesting some mescalin. Seeing someone in a Duck costume with a pointy bra sing "Like a Virgin" to Davina McCall and Ken Jeong was really quite odd. I did like the wild improbability of the panel's guesses though - yeah, I'm sure Idris Elba is going to dress up like a Unicorn and sing "Babooshka".
I saw the first couple of acts, and then turned it off. Who did they turn out to be?

1st Episode was great, 2nd not so much, 3rd was great for the time setting, just felt rushed.

One was Patsy Palmer... I saw a minute or two of it as I was turning the TV on to put Netflix on. It seemed really quite bizarre.

The Butterfly was Patsy Palmer, the Pharoah was Alan Johnson, formerly Her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for the Home Department. You only get to see one person a show! That's what makes it so exciting!
