Is that the one with Tommy off Snatch?
New top gear with paddy and Fred started last night. It was pretty funny actually, way better than I expected.

Agree. 100% more teabagging than usual
In general it was ok but Paddy’s northern lad bants was incredibly annoying.

Looks promising, though the Butcher doesn't quite ring true for me. Spice Girls was a nice touch.

Always found The Boys to be a touch too gross-out in its attempts to be shocking, but looking forward to checking it out.
I enjoyed the comic series and they definitely look to have put a good effort behind this, I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes.

:this: :this: :this: :this: :this: and his total lack of talent. I find it very hard to watch anything he's in.
What gave it away?
You turned your light off.
I’m just trying to save electrickery.
Watching Years and Years, I was amused to see New Brighton pretending to be France with the Liverpool port docks in the background.

Wait until you rewatch Captain America The First Avenger. Brooklyn looks a hell of a lot like the area around Prince's Dock

I shall rewatch!

Liverpool fact! This is because many architects went from Liverpool (greatest city in the world) to New York /Liverpool gact
When I worked in an office at Derby Square we used to see location filming for Hollyoaks almost every week. They used to get disrupted by this geezer who must have been in his sixties, roller skating around there at terrifying speed.

The end of Years and Years was a bit too much Soylent Green for my liking.
You can tell Phoebe Waller-Bridge didn't write any of Season 2s episodes of Killing Eve. Some great bits but not nearly as good as season 1.
The latest top gear was purile, shouty, laddish and unrefined... It was brilliant.

It's amusing to read pistonheads about it, people complaining they aren't reviewing any cars and they can't understand the northern accents :D
"Why haven't they reviewed the new Fiat Panda yet? We need to know how fuel efficient it is in extra urban driving" said no-one ever.

Top Gear hasn't been about car reviews since Tiff Needell left
I watched three episodes of Gentleman Jack last night and I’m not convinced. I don’t feel captivated by the main character, and though her arc may see her soften, in a lot of instances she’s nasty rather than strong.

The looks/confiding to camera and being called out on them were fine much more effectively in Fleabag. The sister is just too flatly annoying. There’s no nuance to character. Actually, that’s true of all the main characters.

Has anybody watched it all and does it get better?
Crowleys Bentley in Good Omens has the same Pioneer Stereo as me!

We've watched them all to date. I think it's the first character that Suranne Jones has played that hasn't made me want to give her a big slap, which probably means she's a good actress. It's not one of the Beeb's best, but not the worst either. Not sure whether it gets better, but if it's even loosely based on real events, it's quite interesting.

It has been getting mixed reviews.

Mrs. W. and I watched episode one and I asked if she wanted to catch up with two last night and she said she wasn't bothered as it didn't seem as enthralling as the first series. I must admit, I did find the first episode a bit of a structureless mess so we didn't bother and watched London Kills instead and we weren't madly impressed with that either. Every time there was a scene in the police station offie, you could hear the same phone ringing and same police car siren in the background.

Oh, I think it’s based on a real memoir, and yes, I think the underlying story is excellent (I’ve seen four or five episodes now) but the acting isn’t the best and the production/direction is just awful.

Suranne Jones has a dedicated bit of really jarring music which means she’s walking, with purpose. Look, she’s walking, she’s walking with big forceful strides, look! She’s walking like a man. She’s a woman but like a man! Watch her walk like a man! Here ends her walking music! Then she’ll inevitably thump the table.
It were the last episode of series 8 of Taskmaster last night. It was GLORIOUS. Contains one of the best tasks they've ever done. Overall the series benefited from having Man From Thing With Greg Davies on it, as he out-charisma-vacuumed Mr Sinha. I ended up quite liking PS in the end, just because he looked like a lost Arthur Dent in every task.
Ooh, and the contestants of series 9 have been announced.

M Khan is still bent, too.
That's on a bridge over a road somewhere that is, I remember that too!
I've not seen the last episode yet, but the task they did where they had to get to Alex on the bridge without him seeing them was amazing!

Jo Brand tho.
That was a great one too! My favourite is the edible masks one from the Champion of Champions series, I just skip the N*el Fi*lding bit.

Sorry, still the song snout Rosalind. Mr M were on fire. Followed closely by arse cake interfacing.
I watched the first two episodes of The Vietnam War on BBC4 over the weekend.

I knew it was a fuck up, but I had no idea just how much of a fuck up it was, or how many fuck ups there were on the part of the USA, how little the population knew about it until they were firmly stuck with a complete disaster on their hands, with no idea of how to deal with it and how the mighty US army had no hope of winning from day 1.

It's fascinating and frightening in equal measure and I'm looking forward to the remaining episodes which will be on over the next few week ends.
Is this the Ken Burns documentary? If so, it is excellent. Be advised, some of the eps are closer to 2 hours in length, so it’s a considerable time investment, but worth it IMO
Hang on, is this back on the iplayer? To the internetPlayer!

Yes it is! 1 & 2 anyway.

Episode 1 is 55 mins and 2 is 53 mins. Nothing 2 hours in length.
Episodes 1&2 on Netflix are each about 80 mins. I wonder if the BBC rejiggled them to fit into an hour slot? https://www.netflix.com/ie/title/80997770

If you fancy a big read check out 'A Bright Shining Lie' by Neil Sheehan which charts the struggles of Lt. Col. John Paul Van as an early advisor in Vietnam, his difficulties overcoming the delusions of the early generals over there who were convinced South Vietnam had workable rulers and a populace willing to fight despite all evidence to the contrary, his later difficulties with Westmoreland and his futile body-count strategy and his own crowning failure as he in turn succumbs to wishful thinking and becomes convinced his own failing strategy is working. Its told from the perspective of the sometimes gonzo journalists who initially hero-worshiped Van and later came to realise how he too was wrong. Most of all it's a book about how smart people can be completely wrong and not see what's evidently in front of them. Incredible read not only of the Vietnam War as a whole, but a fascinatingly flawed, brave, womanising, manipulative yet oddly innocent heroic figure.

Michael Herr's Despatches is also a must read. Oh, and coincidentally off to see the restored re-release of Apocalypse Now tonight at Cineworld on their biggest screen. Oooh.

I have this beside my bed, ready to read after I finish the AA Gill autobiography. I've heard very good things.
I'll add them to my reading list.
I watched the entirety of the Jade Goody documentary. It was bizarre, shocking and disgusting. I’ll be honest, I cried a bit at the end.

I think this image sums up her short life in the media...
Sanditon episode 1 quite shocked me. I'd never have expected Jane Austen to allude to a hand job.
Just watched the first episode of "The Troubles: A secret history" on BBC 4. Interesting and harrowing, making the point about involved Iain Paisley and Martin Macguinness were from the early dyas, and the brutality of the police and army. Some graphic footage is used, particuarly in the final third of the programme.
"The rise if the Nazis" is a bit lke a public information film about the dangers of having Boris as PM and his cronies in the cabinet, although Boris is only behaving like Hitler did in episode 1, so far.
Did the boy who swore at Five Star really apologise? A needlessly long investigation
(Can't get this link to work.)
And what about the guy who got through when Matt Bianco were on and just said, "Matt Bianco? Load of wankers."
Edited: Added the http bit, took out the spaces
The BBC version of The War Of The Worlds is really good.
No sign of a UK air date yet, but episode 1 has been broadcast in New Zealand.
