Shame the last episode destroyed all the tension.

Just dive on top on them, innit.

Aye, that's always boggled my mind as well. I mean when making some hours long TV series it makes a tiny bit more sense, but when you watch a film that's only a couple of hours long and the core story is balls you do wonder how that's been able to happen.

The original screenplay will typically have far fewer holes. It's when you film 4 hours of material that needs to cram into a 2 hour film that bits of information are accidentally discarded.
It's almost like they need to write the screenplay to fit into the length of film that they want to make.

Getting angrier about the whole dead mans switch thing now. It's becoming my strongest memory from the show! Apart from growler rub in the doorway scene, obv.
Yay! Only Connect returns this evening. 20:00, BBC 2.
I watched five minutes of Celebrity Hunted last night. Dom Joly was in Craster.
It's a living.
I too watched a bit of that. I don't know why I even bothered. Why were all the hunters being so nasty?

Shame about the audio problems
Mrs. W and I have been gripped by Black Earth Rising, but with each episode we've had less and less idea what's going on. The finale didn't tie up any loose ends for us really.

We watched the first episode last night and enjoyed it a lot. Felt like I was on pretty solid ground in knowing what's going on, though suspect my trajectory of understanding will follow yours.
I'm a bit confused by The Little Drummer Girl, too. But maybe that's partly the objective. Apparently the ratings have halved since episode one.

I’ve read the book, and not that long ago. It’s a fucking awful adaptation, with shit acting and close to non existent narrative pacing. Literally fuck all happens for the first three episodes. I gave up after that.
Mrs.W and I disagreed a little about Trust. I was gripped by it, she less so. I thought Donald Sutherland's portrayal of a completely bonkers and ruthless J. Paul Getty was excellent, and Brendan Fraser as Chase, his fixer, amused me immensely. Luca Marinelli's Mafioso, Primo, was suitably and consistently scary, and yet his plans fell apart at various stages through misunderstandings and circumstances beyond his control. All in all, I very much enjoyed it.
I watched the first couple of episodes on the plane to the US and haven't been able to finish it off since. Is it on Netflix now?
Dunno, but it's still on iPlayer at the moment.

We've been watching Blood on Channel 5 all week. Just occasionally some of the camera work feels a bit Twin Peaks. It's all family secrets and lies, with Adrian Dunbar either having excuses for his suspicious behaviour or just avoiding answering direct questions about it, with each episode revealing a bit more info to confuse the armchair detectives. I always find him slightly disturbing anyway, so this plot suits him well. I hope it doesn't have a stupid ending.
Just watched the 90 minute one-off 'Tomorrow's World' special. Used to love that show growing up, and the special got the balance between new stuff and nostalgia just right.

My flying car, that they promised would be de rigeur by now, never turned up. And they never covered sex robots, did they? I still loved that TW though. I thought the Garrard Music Recovery Module was a work of genius. No more worries about, "I will not buy this record. It is scratched."

Weirdly, my abiding memory of that programme is not the show itself, but how it was featured on post-apocalyptic comedy ‘Not with a bang’, where the world ended when Judith Hann dropped a glass tube containing the ‘ageing hormone’, instantly killing almost everyone on earth.
Like any other young man, my main memory of Tomorrow's World is Carol Vorderman.

Being a whole decade older than you, I didn't even know Carol Vorderman had ever presented TW.

Grim... is older than I am, and I had no idea that Carol Vorderman presented it, either. I remember the lady with the unfortunate perm.
She did it for about a year then was fired after doing a washing powder commercial using a suspiously-similar set.

Maggie Philbin?
No, though I do remember her from the same time. I had to look her up to find her name, but it’s Judith Hahn I was thinking of.
I always thought Maggie Philbin lacked credibility on that show. Maybe her being married to Cheggers was what undermined her for me, not that that makes any logical sense. Judith always had more gravitas.

I actually forgot Maggie Philbin was in it until I watched the special! Judith Hann and Howard Stableford were the ones I remember. Even though Judith only had guest role in the show, it was sufficient to remind me how authoritative and engaging a broadcaster she was. Howard, meanwhile, didn't appear to have aged at all and still kept the knowledgeable but more fun uncle act going.
Vic & Bob back on the telly tonight. 10pm BBC4.
It was brill.

I'm glad it's just like it used to be. One of the few progs that can really give me the giggles.
Yeah, got a fair few lols from me.

Also laughed at how unfunny Mrs Z found it.
I watched the end of it, and Inside No. 9 after it.
Inside No. 9 has been on my list to watch for a while, but I never get round to it. I really enjoyed it! It was the one on the train, was that particularly good episode, or are they all just as good?

There's a few that fall a little flat, but the overall quality is very high. As long as you like the 2 main guys' style, natch.

Are you a man?
Did you watch the 2018 Strictly finale?
Did you find yourself inexplicably compelled to vote for Stacey Dooley?
Did you think she flashed her growler during her pasa doble?

I must admit, I thought she did. What do you think?
She reckons it was a flesh coloured body suit. You can kinda see the bottom of the suit in that picture, just above her knees. I must admit it did give us pause. And rewind.

Yeah, I'm sure it was, but why not have one the same colour as the dress? All the other cossies have been made that way.

So that you and everyone else would have exactly the conversation you're having right now?

Exactly.
Is it ok to watch several 'Only Connect' episodes then at some point during the Christmas week suggest to your family that you should all play along one evening and cue up an episode on Iplayer? Asking for a friend....

As long as none of your family are on this forum, you're laughing.
I used to read digitalspy forum and there was a thread on only connect, there was a woman who used to come online after the show and tell us all how many 5 pointers she got and how obvious they were. I offered to setup a live chat room where we all played along together at the same time for a future episode, yet for some reason she kept ignoring my offer....

Ah, but there's all those delays between satellite, terrestial, and online to account for....

The only bit of the World Cup I remember was when the people watching in Grim...'s living room would randomly cheer to annoy those watching over Wi-fi in the garden.
The konami cheat code was in the latest only connect, which I got on the second clue though, but not sure I would have had the balls to press the button at that point...

Positively encouraged, I believe. Also acceptable for Universirty Challenge and Mastermind.
