I don't like this thread and agree with GY.

Hey, what about me, Gill? I'm jumping on the bandwagon too, you know. :D

Actually, I am Lord Raiden, but I don't get out much these days.
Poor form for spamming and being a spammer.

But respect for explaining himself and sticking around to do so.

If he'd been obnoxious about it, I could understand the reactions, but all that was needed was a thread lock/url removal.
Idk, he was a spammer that was stupid enough to use his business email address. Fuck him & fuck his astroturfing job.
I can sort of see both sides. It's like people who come to the door cold calling. They piss me off but part of me can't help feeling sorry for them and generally try and get rid as politely as possible (until they start getting too pushy anyway), I mean what a fucking horrible way to have to try and eke out a living.

edit: I know they don't have to do it but still.
What Wullie said. Lowest of the low, spammers. Considering the entire company is a social media advertising racket, too. Paid to trawl through Twatter hawking shit. Paid to squelch through Cuntbook hawking shit. Paid to slither through forums hawking shit. Shit cake crust slathered all round his gob hole.

I'd love to live in a black hole.

GY - Hawking shit to people for money is thoroughly un-excellent behaviour. If I came into the pub while you were with your mates and started chatting, I might expect a cordial reception. If I came up and started throwing pizza flyers at you and wowing about pizza, I might expect to be glassed, chaired, and pavemented.

However if I put a pizza flyer on your table because it looked like you might enjoy a pizza, and there was a competition to get a free pizza on it, I would not expect to be glassed, chaired and pavemented.

Especially as I then came back when it turned out I'd annoyed you by giving you that leaflet (even though I'd just been doing my fairly innocuous job), and then I apologised and even gave you my reasons for doing so.

And then even though I'd done that (which I really didn't have to), you then kicked me in anyway. And phoned my boss, because I hadn't stuck to your rules. How very excellent of you.

"Just doing my job" doesn't cut it, I'm afraid. I might pay someone to stamp on adorable puppies, but they're still stamping on adorable puppies, wage or no wage, free golf shoes or no free golf shoes.

The reporting to boss thing ... well, he's not actually doing his job properly, whatever we think of it, this is a clear fact. Reporting this to his boss is pretty much fair aye I reckon.

It's nothing to do with rules, either. Spamshits aren't welcome anywhere, and this is one of the places where they're surely least welcome in the world. Anyone signing up to do that job should know that (the first part inherently, the second through 10 minutes' research). And then drown themselves.

Otherwise... well. I didn't actually see an apology so much a sulking escalation ploy. But okay, let's take it as an apology, and then yeah, fair enough, that's a nice gesture. Everything else stands though, tbh.

Note that (as I suspected) his boss was just as much a part of this as he was. Telling the client is hopefully more damaging, because often these social media fuckwits are given a broad brief by the client and then run around doing this behind the client's back, pointing to clickthrough stats as proof they have done a good job. It's possible, of course, that the client approves of this action, in which case our man here won't be in any trouble. Or they don't approve, in which case this bloke might get lambasted for doing a shit job. Either way, he's only got himself to blame, and with respect to GY, CC and SDG, I'm sticking to my guns.
Pffft.

As far as his client is concerned he's done an excellent job. I'd never heard of Camp Bestival before, but I have now. Although it's not my sort of thing, I know a few people it might appeal to so I emailed them about it.

Also, if any of the organisers from the festival actually read your complaint - which I doubt - they might well be inclined to visit this very thread. What sort of opinion do you think they'll form?
I also had never heard of Bestival before. I know twice as many people as EoE knew who might be interested in it, so I emailed them and told them they'd get space AIDS if they went there.
Has the world gone topsy turvey fucking mad today? Spammers are heroes? Oh, wait... I get it. It's opposite day!
Or exaggeration day perhaps.

Good SPAIDS or bad SPAIDS?

I heard about this on the way home on the news. Seriously, what is this world coming to?

Facebook idiots trying to make themselves look "cool" and against "the man".

Someone we pay money to is pissing people off in our name?
A nice man regularly sends me emails about some very cheap software he's selling, I know a lot of people who'd be interested so I forward the emails to them. Sadly my friends never email me or reply these days. I guess they're all too busy having fun with their cheap software :(

EDIT: In case anyone thinks he's a spammer: I thought that too so I pulled him up about it & he said that he wasn't. That's good enough for me.

Some web forum moderator who could easily have clicked the "delete thread" button, instead decides to spend hours of his life engaged in a frankly pointless campaign drawing more attention to our product?

Ah the memories. :attitude:
Did I win?

Oh by the way I see you guys have talked about a Tranny Nonce, and I'm organising Trannynoncetival 2010 for late December in Dudley. Click here for your chance to win tickets, a roll of cock tape and some lippy: [email protected]

Good luck everyone!

You leave Dudley out of this. He doesn't post here any more.
I dunno. If massive over-reaction persuades other spamming cunts to stay the fuck away from our little corner of the Internet, I'm all for it.

Nice people not solely intent on selling shit are always welcome though, in case any lurkers are reading this!
Man alive. This was a bit dramatic wunnit? :S

I've just checked the rules and can't see anything in them that says this chap ought not to have posted a thing about a festival (not that he checked).

This is true, you know.

We should change the rules.

No. I really, really wasn't.

Yes indeed.

@Grim... we need a no cold calling notice on the front door. :)

Dumbfuck marketer signs up to spam forum. Uses own email address. Regrets it. For some bizarre reason comes back to discuss(!). Done.

Feex
What an odd thread.

On the one hand, spamming is bad/annoying, and most forums have filters and suchlike which stop spambots from signing up (with intermittent success, admittedly).

So it's pretty damn obvious that a human signing up just to spam isn't, on the whole, going to be welcome. It's certainly well known as bad internet etiquette to sign up for a forum purely to advertise.

I do, however, think the backlash on him was perhaps a little over the top, given the 'crime'.

Still, credit to him for hanging around!

Ours is rather generous, it must be said.

And when I say rather generous, I mean "doesn't actually care what the response to the challenge is".

Over the top? Can you imagine what would have happened to this guy if he'd tried this stunt on 4chan or Something Awful? They'd have had his photo from Facebook, photoshopped it onto furry porn, and sent it to his mother in less than five minutes flat.

To be fair, that's a pretty odd basis on which to justify yourself. "At least I'm not as bad as a bunch of irredeemable 14 year old wankers with no social lives".
Curiosity wrote:

The punishment didn't fit the crime? We took the piss out of him here & on twitter and also complained to the folk who'd hired his company because he was doing a brilliant job of making them look bad.

The first bit was childish but fun & the second bit was entirely appropriate.
I think we deffo need more introspection and self-flagellation as a group on here.
I think we need more thick spammers! I enjoyed yesterdays shenanigans, even more so when he came back.
I'm not massively bothered. Just thought we came across as a bit aggressive!

It's ok now Andy Bear, bad man all gone.

Well quite. The 'I'm not quite the biggest wanker on the internet' isn't the best of defences.

Personally I couldn't give a toss about abusive posts aimed at this guy (although a simply 'click ban/delete thread' by a mod would've been a more mature option, frankly), but outing his actual identity, ringing/emailing his boss and all that? Not very excellent at all; far too much of that (IMO) vindictive kind of shit on the web as it is. Queensbury Rules and all of that.
a) Stop stereotyping people on an Internet forum(s). We're people on an Internet forum, too.
b) Did Cavey just tell us off for being mean to someone?
c) No-one emailed his boss grr etc.
Isn't [email protected] his boss?

Not that it matters, especially as it bounced. But, we actually did :)

True, I never said I was a paragon of virtue mate, I'm most certainly not. Few here are bigger arseholes than me; I have to perpetually apologise for my idiotic conduct for much of the time. :(

Still, I reckon contacting someone's employer and outing them is a bit of a new level.

Last I'm going to say about it; I'm not trying to make a big deal or start any arguments. I just wanted to say that I don't think this episode was very nice, in my opinion, that's all.
Grim... wrote:

The difference is that we're people on an excellent internet forum, and last time I checked none of us got convicted for distributing child porn, DDoS attacks or hacking Sarah Palin's email. Although it's only a matter of time, I guess.

You're right, it wasn't. But then 'not very nice' is an ideal way to make sure this forum isn't on Centric Digitals 'favourite places to spam our shite' list going forward.
Captain Caveman wrote:

I'd say it was entirely appropriate (assuming you mean client and not employer as it's almost certainly true that both people from the company work like this). If I employed someone to, say, advertise a job for my company, and they went around doing shit like this? You better believe I'd want to know, especially when they mention the company name in the process.
Wouldn't you?

Amusingly, if you google for Sentric Digital we now appear on the first page. That won't help their reputation any :)
